When asking you where you came from they obviously mean the country, so their brains prepare to get a COUNTRY as input. (US, UK, AUST) but then you come with freaking maaabuuurg, which of course is NO english speaking country they've ever heard of which confuses them. They just continue to listen 8times and think about what freaking country THAT is until they realise its a german city.
@Tiegerbock5
@Tiegerbock5 6 лет назад
TheScratcherStudios I don't think thats the problem. It sounds like you wanna say that Silas & Conner are stupid and can't distinguish in a conversation between a city and a country

No, this happens when Germans ask us where we are living IN Germany. We have casual conversation for a few minutes then they ask us: "So where in Germany are you living" ... and we reply "We live in Marburg"... and they scratch their heads, so we add "it a smaller city, just north of Frankfurt"... then they scratch their head again so we try to pronounce it a few different ways like "Maaaburgh, Mabuuaaggeee, Marbeeeerg" and ONLY THEN DO THEY SAY "AHHHHHHHH MAAAAAAAHHHHHHHBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAGGGGGGEEEE!!!!!!" Every Time.

I laugh my butt off every time I watch those VLOGS lmao ! I love how you get excited about the most usually things for Germans and Germans (we) should be more aware of how blessed we are with things that are normal for us. Anyways, hope you have fun in Hamburg (just saw it on IG) and next time you and your beautiful girl (or the guys) come to cologne, hmu! I’d be happy to show you around with the real things to see this time :D Enjoy Germany and Europe ! (:

"Is this real wood?" Lmao what else would it be..? And please for the love of everything that's holy, don't call it "HÄHMBÖRG". It's HAMBURG.
@quo33
@quo33 6 лет назад
I say it the correct way. What do you mean how do I say it. I say it like a German. And I hope you're not talking about the food. They are in Germany, visiting a German city. They have already pointed out how nobody recognises Marburg because of their poor pronunciation. The least they could do is pronounce Hamburg like a German, no? Nalf is honestly much better at this, he's even taking real German lessons.
@quo33
@quo33 6 лет назад
Would you pronounce American cities in a German way? wtf lol Americans are way too spoiled - they are quick to notice that Germans pronounce certain brands wrong (like Nike) but if they heard a German pronounce Mercedes oder BMW the German way, they would have no idea what he's talking about. Why should we always cater to them I wonder? #us-centrism
@quo33
@quo33 6 лет назад
Hamburger means a citizen of Hamburg (the city). Otherwise it should not have been capitalised, as nouns aren't in English. XD And we do pronounce hamburger the food the English way, so what exactly is your problem?
@quo33
@quo33 6 лет назад
Ja sicher sollten sie die deutschen Städte deutsch korrekt aussprechen, geh bitte so schwer ist des jetzt aber auch wieder ned XD Schließlich leben sie ja da, also für uns im Ausland wäre es selbstverständlich, es zumindest zu versuchen. Amis sind Kinder...
@quo33
@quo33 6 лет назад
This is not about how these cities are pronounced in English. I said I was baffled that they would make no effort at all to pronounce them the German way. Why don't they learn more German? They've lived in Germany for a while now. I don't know why you get so defensive, it's a reasonable question.

Guys that’s a Turkish restaurant Süleyman is an old ottoman name and usta basically means adept, foreman or master craftsman, but the food is quite similar. You can always differ them by taking the ambience and the menu in. Turkish restaurants never offer pork and Ouzo, but greek do. By the way you should try to articulate Burg better. You always switch back to your american pronunciation

I had a similar encounter 1992 in Scottland. We were in the pub of the camping site in Pitlochry. So I sat there talking to a scottish guy and it lead to me telling him we were about to meet some friends from Germany in Durness, which is at the north coast. So I pronounced it. like you would do too, I guess. Emphasis on first syllable and the usual soft r but he didn't understand. After 4 times I had to spell it and he was like "Aye, you mean DurrrrNESS." You know that rolling r like Bavarians do and with strong emphasis on the second syllable.
