My first Pokémon Games was HEARTGOLD and SOULSILVER, BLACK and WHITE was my second Pokémon Games and Pokémon Black and White-Rival Destinies are My Favourite an Anime Seasons. I'm enjoying too! 🖤🤍
I don’t think many people notice this since the statues of blocks are abstract and you can only see it if you stand in a certain spot. But in the Canyon Biome, in the place you fight Amarys. There are 4 abstract block statues. If you stand in the center of the entrance (Where the golden pokeball statues are) and pan your camera a little you can see the statues are a 2 and 0 on one side and a 1 and 0 on the other. 2010 was when Black and White first came out. I really liked that.
A few references missed in this video come from the dialogue with the special coaches. If you keep talking to Brassius, he mentions Burgh and how theyre similar trainers who are gym leaders and artists. He even goes as far to say that he paid a visit to Burghs gym during his time in Unova, even referencing the BW2 gym puzzles where you slide in the silicone webs. Another reference in this vein comes from your history teacher mentioning how she yearns to see the Desert Ruins off of route 4. Those are the few i picked up on but i might update this comment the more I call special coaches
After the Epilogue, you can invite Nemona and Lacey and they talk about how they meet earlier in Unova as kids and how Nemona challenged Clay when she learned he was a Gym Leader.
The Unova references really hit hard, but that’s probably because Black was my first pokemon game. Though I never beat, as I got lost in the dragon gym, and I also played rather poorly, as I didn’t even know what grinding was as a kid, so I just challenged and lost to the gym leaders over and over again until I somehow got lucky. Young me stunk at RPGs
I got lucky my first playthrough, I knew nothing about pokemon, yet somehow didn't lose in any battle outside of the final main game battle. (I'd say who you fight, but I don't want to potentially spoil the last two battles for ya. Even though you've probably watched it on youtube somewhere already)
Let's be real here: Gen 5 was Pokémon's last hurrah for the DS and they went HARD, so it makes sense that a lot of us who played it have good memories of it and is considered a favorite. This DLC felt like a major call out and love letter to that fan favorite, and I love it! Also, show of hands: Who here waited to capture Meloetta until she got done singing the entire Relic Song? (raises hand) I actually remember the event in the original games, and seeing Meloetta in BW1 floating and spinning around as if the song was giving her joy actually gave me feels. Had to let her finish out of respect.
What I loved most about the Indigo Disk DLC is that it gave us a taste of what a Unova remake could be. imagine being able to fly over the ocean above Castelia City. The DLC felt more like a remake than BDSP did lmao.
@@toumabyakuyaThat’s definitely a hot take. For one, they didn’t lock out Pokemon and moves that weren’t in the original games. There’s also the fact that they had a Battle Frontier, something BDSP and not even ORAS got. They even did following Pokemon better than BDSP plus got a free add on to go with it. Long story short most people agree HG and SS are the definitive Johto experience while Platinum is the definitive Sinnoh experience.
@@HindsightWildin *"For one, they didn’t lock out Pokemon and moves that weren’t in the original games."* I mean, seeing how unrealistic it is to expect GF to bring back every single Pokemon for every single game, I think this was expectable. *"There’s also the fact that they had a Battle Frontier, something BDSP and not even ORAS got."* A good thing because it was fun to play once or twice, but tedious and boring to complete. And the reward for doing so isn't good either.
For me, this dlc has somewhat redeemed pokemon for me. There‘s some of the spirit back in the games again. There‘s a lot of the „they didn‘t have to but they did it anyway“ that was there in the older games again. They didn‘t have to make the meloetta mini event but they did. They didn‘t have to make the fights more challenging but they did....These types of small things just make this one dlc just feel more alive than the previous few games. Kind of makes me hopeful that future games will strive to be better and not just meet a quota.
Yep definitely and it’s why gen 9 is definitely better than 6-8 by a LONG SHOT it did so much good especially story wise. Only downfall is the horrible lags and glitches.
@@a.x.x8184 the lags/glitches problem lies with Switch hardware/GF didnt bother to optimize it, i've seen peeps saying that the lagging problem is gone when you played SV on an emulator with decent to good PC specs and i know a lot of peeps hoping that Gen 5 remakes is coming next year, but id rather wait for Switch 2 to came out first
The problem is still that the devs are forced to meet a quota of like yearly releases which hurts the whole process considering that gamefreak has like 160 employees which is really small considering the money the pokemon company gets from the games. I do believe that if the devs were given just 1 more year per main series game the quality would drasticly increase. It's sad really, a reoccuring theme with pokemon has been that the core ideas of the games is great but the execution is f*cked because of time constrains
I mean, I never said they did, in fact the dlc ran worse than the main game, and pokemon hasn't looked "good" since later 3ds games. My point was that the core ideas still hold up great and with more time could be executed in a better way. Which yes, isn't the case yet and probably never will be but a guy can dream
As far as I could check, all the terarium themes start with the Title Screen theme from BW, then go to Routes 2.4 and 6. But a few have some exclusive snippets like Opelucid City, Driftveil and Humilau City. In my opinion, the E4 theme does reference the original. The beat you mentioned sounds exactly like the start of the E4 theme.
Thank you for mentioning the special attention the Tao Trio got in that trailer! I commented that on another video and people thought I was insane. All of these Unova references make me think it’s about an 80-85% chance we get Unova remakes next year, as the amount of references is unprecedented.
The 2 paradox trios are also BW refrences. The swords of justice are the main trio whereas the legendary beasts had a in-game event for Zoroark in BW1 and 2 alongside a movie about them and Zorua
Not only Unova got the special treatment in Scarlet and Violet, they even can track back to Sword and Shield, in Galar dex, the most available number pokemon of generation is Gen 5, total 117 pokemon are available in Galar dex, more then Gen 8 89 available number of pokemon in Galar dex, heck there are a handle of Unovan pokemon has Galarian form. There even more Unovan Pokemon has regional forms in Legends Arceus, Basculin got evolution in the game, but currently only white-striped form can evolves, maybe the other forms will can evolves in Black and White remakes, the clouds also got new member in the game, it called Enamorus.
I would argue that it traces back to Alola, even, with a surprising amount of characters from the Unova games making cameos in that game, including Colress, Grimsley, and professor burnette from a unova spin off. Unova is game freak's favorite, no bones about it.
I guess we will have to wait until the next game, or Gen 10 pokemon game, after Pecharunt event story has concluded. We even find out that Nemona is stronger than Kieran during this event which is crazy, if you consider his competitive level team.
team in game is different thing, plot wise Kieran is a champion only in his school meanwhile Nemona is a regional champion of Paldea. It's why Indigo ending suck because Nemona didnt join the expedition, not to mention Nemona is what Kieran strive for, a top trainer.
@@neat3655there is actually will be a third DLC featured Peacharunt and we can continue to journey with both our Paldea’s gang and our Kitakami’s gang. it has already been leaked, you just wait for it.
Considering how much Unova got the special treatment, I highly believe the remakes are coming next year. Hopefully, we will get a sequel as well and finally see the legendary dragon.
Really hoping it will be BW3 and not some remake or remaster of the original since gen 5 changed the game formula quite a lot (otherwise GF would have to remake both BW & BW2 since both were seperate games rather than a 3rd version as was the case before)
@notfaizen.05 I don't know why you keep bashing on bdsp it's been 2 years get over it. Seriously beating a dead horse with all the hate at this point. Honestly I like chibi the art style. When bdsp was announced they did say it was a faithful remake. Honestly all I wanted was to be able to play gen 4 on switch and I personally got that. No gimmics like dynamax and such or lets go catching mechanics. I don't care about the battle frontier, most of the battle facilities involved luck or a gimmic to them which i could care less about.btw people were complaining about the most from what I seen aside from not adding all the platinum content. Let's be honest the pokemon company has been ignoring 3rd versions since oras only adding the delta episode. People's expectations of remakes getting more features is just gonna set them up for disappointment. Only reason 3rd versions were a thing aside from making more money is that dlc and online updates weren't as prevalent back then or didn't exist yet. In my opinion remakes are made to bring a game to modern hardware it doesn't always mean that a developer is gonna add a large amount of new content into the game aside from quality of life features. On a side not there are a couple of videos that have something along the lines of we don't need black and white remakes because of ilca and bdsp and the remake will suck. Listen the pokemon company is looking to make money and considering bdsp is the highest selling remake its almost guaranteed that a black and white remake is gonna happen
Gen 5 was my second set of Pokemon games to play when I was a kid (my first set was gen 4, HGSS being my first ever games) so when I noticed all of the Unova references I immediately was overjoyed
So like, I damn near cried when I stumbled into Chargestone cavern for the first time. I loved the Unova games so much and this DLC was just, so sweet to me.
All biome themes have Route 4 and Route 6 elements. Savannah and Canyon have also Route 2 while Coastal has Driftveil City and the ice biome even has Opelucid City.
The Battle Themes really sent me back to High School. Black and White were a really cool time to be a Fan who started with Gen 1 because of how darker the tone was and how the protags themselves were older than usual. I truly felt like the Games were growing up with Me at the time. (And then Gen 6 happened) I havent felt this nostalgic and youthful since Gen 3 remakes tbh Lets all use Unity Consciousness/Prayer/Begging/Spam to manifest proper 3D Open World Gen 5 remakes and not "faithful remakes"
I watched your playthroughs of black and white 1 and 2 but I didn't realize there were so many references to unova but out of all of them I can honestly say that the 1 I find most beautiful is the Meloetta encounter it took me a little while to figure out how to get it to go smoothly but once I did I found it very beautiful great video
That 7 of the paradox forms and 5 of the hisuian forms are unova pokemon and that Archaludon is a reference to unova's bridges and of course don't forget Kingambit is a big hint
I think there’s also a few “Americanisms” that aren’t directly lifted from Black/White, but reflects Unova’s American inspiration. Such as a more diverse student body (compared to small Japanese villages in Kitakami), the cafeteria menu being all junk food, and everything being a bit more high tech & modern than other regions. Not saying all of that is always true for America btw, but they all fit “how the world sees America”, as a non-American myself lol.
That’s only true in the major cities. I went to high school, and we didn’t have lockers, just laptops for everyone. That was 15+ years ago. Nowadays, it’s tablets and laptops for everyone. lol heyyy, I love those junk food
Something just feels right about watching the guy who i fondly remember being my guide through unova when i was a child covering all these gen 5 references now. Happy youre still going Mr. Orange!
I totally found the Nature Preserve yesterday, I thought the Haxorus in the clearing was just an homage but they really did plonk the whole map layout there! Awesome.
Wild theory, I know, but I think I know what Black and White remakes could be (Note: spoilers) Terapagos seems to be intentionally causing the Bootstrap Paradox by summoning the professor from the past, given how attached it is to you when you find it and how it will come out of your boxes to cause the Crystal Pool event. Because of you going down and catching it, Briar is able to upgrade the core of the Terarium with crystals found in the cave. While giving you access to Stellar Tera Types, it also puts a big source of Tera energy in the general vicinity of the Unova Region. Leakers who have been right in the past have stated that the remake for Black and White is going to be a "Paradox". What that could mean is that the BW remake is the plot of the original game but altered because of the events of Scarlet and Violet.
GF could have done something with the God Stone it's a botched/unused item in BW, probably referencing on how Kyurem could revert back into it's stone from just like how Reshi/Zek with Light and Dark Stone but they scrapped that idea they've already done with it the Azure Flute to summon Arceus in the Legends game and that flute is an unused event exclusive item in DPPt
As an Unova baby, i enjoyed every Gen 5 references in the DLC. I just really wish Liepard was in the game, I'm using a only Unova Pokemon team in the DLC and even if Liepard isn't that good, I'll keep it in my team because it's my favorite Pokemon.
I feel like Liepard can be really good if played correctly. And it's hidden ability prankster was so good at one point that they had to change the way the move dive works
Would rather have a black and white 3 over a remake any day, but I’ll take anything gen 5 related. Seeing ghetsis another time is a dream come true, best villain of all time in the poke verse.
As someone whose favorite generation is gen 5 and favorite main series pokemon games are the gen 5 games this DLC was a huuuuge nostalgia bomb and made me squeal way too much
There is also many references in dialogues frob league club room. For example, Brassius talks about Burgh, Larry talks about Casteliacone. And I suppose that's not all!
I hope we get a gen 5 remake because Pokemon Black was, in a sense, my first pokemon "catching" game. But then my "friend" broke my Ds and i wasnt even halfway finished with the game.
I remember playing B&W and B&W2 but forgot what the story was about. I just remember it was one of the hardest Pokemon game I ever play and that why I like it.
This basically confirms Gen 5 remakes. As someone whose favorite generation is Black and White, after seeing how butchered the Diamond and Pearl remakes were, I’m scared.
One reference I wished they’d add is for one for Team Plasma, which is my absolute favorite villain team, like a wanted poster for Ghestis and colress or a vet trainer remembering the freezing of opilcid city
They're probably going to be pretty faithful, which is no problem to me personally, I can't wait to watch everyone complain about it, usually remakes are praised for keeping their art style, not pokemon fans though apparently
@Supersonicspyro It's just that when you look at previous remakes adding more content and using the current gen system rather than a lazy cash grab that doesn't even add anything new, you realize bdsp is somehow worse than platinum. I'm hoping for a good gen5 remake, maybe not better than hg/ss but not worse than bdsp.
Although it’s nothing direct, Crispin’s name is a pretty massive hint towards him being related to the Striaton Gym Triplets. All of their names start with C and are food related. Cilan, Chili, Cress, and now Crispin
@@onepieceking1770 that’s what I was thinking as well. Some kind of relative who looks up to them since he’s from a different city but everything else matches up. Amarys is the hard one, I genuinely have nothing for her… But since the other e4 all have some pretty clear connections to older characters I hope she does too
@@juliuskingsley4400 yea amarys may have a connection to colress like she admires him of how he operates or something secretive like that's his daughter
Spoiler: It's confirmed, that Lacey is Clays daughter. There is a ingame conversation between her and Nemona, where she is talking about her father Clay and Nemonas parents, who're working together.
Yeah the Gen 5 Remake is likely to come out. I hope they dont f up like what they did on Gen 4 remakes. Plus Gen 5 is my favorite. Peak Graphic Design!
When you invite coaches Larry will mention Castellia comes, which isn't too bizarre given how they appear now and again as full heals, but the most interesting is Village Sandwiches/ Berry Sandwiches, which are a really obscure one, as they never appear as an item, and are only really used for a small memory mini game for the Village Bridge, similar to the hotel mini game from X and Y where you had to memorize orders. And it seems to be one of the few times we see berries that are confirmed safe for trainers to eat, which seem to be simple status berries. I honestly wish we got a Village Sandwich item. Make it like a super potion and a full heal, but make it exclusive to the mini game, and reward it for each correct order. That way you'd have more of an incentive to do it.
GEN 5 HYPE HYPE were about to reach peak once again when the remakes come out 😭 I wish there were some cool little tidbit for those of us who actually have that shiny haxourus from gen 5. I have 2 one i shiny hunted and one from gen 5 from the specific nature preserve but nothing happened when i took it out to battle of walk around. Im so excited for gen 5 remakes tho
kinda disappointed that they didnt include/mention benga who could be like "i was tired of sharing my ace with my grandfather so i went to paldea and caught myself slither wing/iron moth"
With all the music references from gen 5, I'm surprised they didn't do anything with one of the most famous gen 5 music, Route 10 theme. its even used in Masters EX and Smash
Pokémon Black was my first game and all of the Unova references makes me so excited for the Gen V remakes. The number of little easter eggs and the blatant connections too give me so much hope that they care for Unova to an extreme level and will put a huge amount of effort into the remakes or sequels, but that’s just my wishful thinking I think. 😂
Coincidentally, Black and White Kyurem were accidentally released on Pokemon Go. Yes , even this game likes to give hints. I can give you examples if you like.
It feels like a missed opportunity to not have at least one character cameo in the dlc, could have been a retired alder, a mysterious green haired trainer off in the distance in a cutscene, hell I’d even take amanita or even the retired rocket trainer just anything
The legendary musketeers get paradox forms. The legendary beast also get paradox forms, also while yes the legendary beast are johto in origin. The legendary beast do feature in the zoark movie and do have their own events in black and white
So are you telling me that the closest to Unova Remakes we'll have... Is this?? Just an Island with Manuel references to those games?? Because we know now that they skip Gen 5 to make Pokemon Legends Z 😢.
I'm currently playing through Violet again and just recently noticed that the Poké Maniacs are all wearing shirts with the Pokéstar Studios logo wait... you named your Quaquaval RuPaul? 😂
Super excited to see what they do for gen 5 next game and happy to hear all the tunes a d references in the indigo disc. On the other hand it does really suck that the dlc was almost entirely unovian themed rather than something new and unique for scarlet and violet.
All the Unova and Johto references literally made me emocional, it's my favorite regions and I'm excited (and terrified) to revisit this regions in a Let's go or a Legends game... or even a remake that is not madr by ILCA
Black and white 3 with some characters from the Indigo disc in it, and a legends Kyurem game that revolves around the “original” dragon would be amazing
4:40 wasn't it the face of the green cubic prop? (It appears as the first image on the Bulbapedia's PokeStar Props page, but I can't find it in the list of the props)
