that's such a crazy fact hey?, I'm Australian but i remember the fervour of patriotism (and sadly xenophobia) following 9/11. over time that fervour died down, the fog of war revealed a lot of shady shit
@@theelephantintheroom69Approval ratings are more of an interesting historical footnote to help see the general mood of people in the country at the time.
I'd argue that that's just based on since records began being kept. George Washington likely had a 92+% rating based on the fact that he was "Him" at the time. James Madison likely had similar numbers since, again, he was "Him."
You probably already know this, but Teddy Roosevelt was shot once, just as he was about to give a speech. After getting initial treatment, he went up, said "I have just been shot", and then gave the entire speech, before seeking further medical attention. Another anecdote is some guy stole his boat when he was at a lake one time, so Teddy built his own boat, chased down the robber, and successfully retrieved his boat back
Interesting fact: John Tyler (10th US President, born in 1790) has a grandkid alive right now. Yes, grandkid. How? John Tyler kept having kids until he was 63. His last kid, Lyon Tyler, kept having kids until he was 75 (1928) and that kid is currently still alive.
Woodrow Wilson was a vicious racist. His promotion of the film "birth of a nation" and his many outspoken racist statements lead in part to the rebirth of the kkk, who were up till then operating on the background since Grant's presidency. Also, Wilson suffered a stroke during the end of his 2nd term, and his wife, Edith Wilson, basically assumed power, acting independently with the mask of being the only person allowed to speak to or see her husband. This is why many refer to her as the USA's first female president
@@HighFlyingOwlOfMinerva he didn’t re-segregate congress…he re-segregated those employed by federal government. Congress is the legislative branch whose members have to be elected, what Wilson segregated were the employees under the executive branch.
Probably overlooked it, more likely that these entire video ideas are just GPT generated and he rewrites the script to sound more natural and he reworded that section.
Polk is a very interesting president to me. He is the president that gained the most territory for America. He also promised when elected to rule for only 4 years, and during these 4 years he fulfilled the entirety of his election promises. After his first term, because he was popular, the democrats wanted to renominate him, but he refused, both because he promised to only serve the one term, and because at that point his health was ailing, and he died a few months after he stepped down.
James Garfield is a big "what if?" President. He was a very wise and passionate person, great politician, and firm believer in meritocracy. He was shot by a guy who campaigned for his election and than demanded a position in cabinet as a reward. But Garfield could've survived. He died of infection, because his doctor tried to remove the bullet from his body without any precaution or sterilization. If only they left the bullet in Garfield's body, he would've survived, and imo he would've been considered today as one of the better presidents in American history
Thought the same thing. We were a people of much stronger integrity back then. I think today, everyone gets their news and info and algorithms in a way designed to highlight what they want to see and drown out things they don't, even if those things are true. We're much more divided when we got our news from the same place, and it will likely only get worse.
I can remember the assination attempt on Reagan. I was in Grade School at the time and I distinctly remember on of my classmates complaining that they took Loonie Tunes off the air to cover the assination.
One of the things that people should know about that attempted assassination is that it wasn't political. Hinckley was already planning to assassinate the president. If Carter had won the election, then Hinckley would have shot him instead.
@@abrahamlinkin2414in fairness Biden's presidency is ongoing so it can improve or get worse but that would require predicting the future or giving an opinion which is not the point of the video
Great video as always, but I just wanna state something important; these videos are not gospel and are drastically oversimplified. Do not use these videos to “flex” your knowledge like I see so many do. These videos are great for learning about topics to research, and are not the endpoint. Much love ❤
Important to remember the emancipation proclemation abolished slavery *except* as a punishment for crime, and we really have people like Cassius Clay to thank for it.
0:01 "George Washington fought in both the French and the Indian War." No he fought in a war called the French and Indian War. Who's the explainer here? Me or you?
As much as some people lambaste Jackson for the Indian Removal Act, it was a mutual agreement he made with the leaders of many Native American tribes. Both Jackson and Tribal leaders were convinced that their cultures could not coexist in such close proximity, so the Act gave Jackson the power to negotiate relocation agreements (including Federal funding for such relocations). The infamous Trail of Tears was carried out under Martin Van Buren's dictates, placing General Winfield Scott (who Jackson had twice tried to court-martial for his racist attitudes towards Native Americans) in command. Scott violated most every aspect of the relocation agreement; refused to provide transportation, denied them supplies, forced them to take an arduous meandering route, and extorted them for river crossings and what supplies they were able to obtain. Despite Jackson's fierce reputation (upon leaving Office, he announced his regret for not shooting his first VP John Calhoun and not hanging Kentucky Senator Henry Clay), by the time he heard about the atrocities committed during the Trail of Tears he was so far gone from age and old injuries that he couldn't do anything about it.
Quentin Trembley 3rd not listed on Famous People on Paper money and coins and President Lincoln has been very popular on Money of Franklin Mint have issues 100th Anniversary of Lincoln's birthday.
I would've appreciated more of a balanced or less opinionated approach, which to be fair occurs for most presidents, but the coverage of Coolidge and FDR at least was quite one-sided. Black Tuesday occurred because Coolidge made US investors take too many risks and FDR saved the US from the Great Depression with his social programs? I think not.
It's gonna be so fucked watching them go at it like playing rockem sockem robots with geriatric old men. I might wanna watch like a trainwreck in slow motion.
As an Australian I couldn't ask for a better way to get information about US Presidents than from the Paint Explainer. You're the best at concise teaching. Thank yoyu!
You would be wise to do fact checking on these videos, there was NEVER a dude who was President called 'Millard Fillmore'. Maybe in a theoretical alternate timeline but not in ours 🤔
Elected 1840. Harrison dies in office. Elected 1860. Lincoln dies in office. Elected 1880. Garfield dies in office. Elected 1900. McKinley dies in office. Elected 1920. Harding dies in office. Elected 1940. Roosevelt dies in office. Elected 1960. Kennedy dies in office. Elected 1980. Reagan....lucky asshole.
Yes my favorite president Lincoln and President Washington and President Older Bush and President Reagan and President Trump and I voted for Mike Hucklbee and Sarah Palin of Alaska for President against Obama and against Hillary Clinton and against Joe Lying Biden. My family members are Southern Baptist Missionary Church preacher and Sunday Schools teachers and Republican Party animals farmers and vegetables and fruits garden growers in Arkansas and Missouri and Kansas and Texas and Oregon and Washington State.
Lincon was a great deceiver he said himself he didn’t wanna free slaves he owned slaves. He was greedy because during those times the north had harsh taxes on southern products pretty much robbing em of what they was owed. Hence the creation of work force unions down the road after the civil war. Northern aggression on coal miners n such.
The corrupt bargain refers to the actual means by which Adams won the election. The election of 1824 was a 4-way race between JQ Adams, Andrew Jackson, then Secretary of the Treasury William Crawford, and then Speaker of the House Henry Clay. Andrew Jackson won a plurality of both the electoral college and the popular vote, by rather significant margins I might add, however no one won a majority of the electoral college which is what is required to win the Presidency. In the scenario that no one wins a majority of the electoral college, the House of Representatives chooses the President. However, they can only pick from the top 3 candidates so since Henry Clay came in last he was disqualified, leaving 3 options: Adams, Jackson, & Crawford. Now despite Jackson being the most popular candidate with the American people, Henry Clay infamously HATED Jackson, and remember his position at the time, he was the Speaker of the House. So since Clay was ineligible to win, it's widely believed that he cut a deal with Adams; that he would use his influence in the House to get Adams elected and in return Adams would appoint him as Secretary of State, which Adams did when he took office in March of 1825. This was noticed even back then, as the American people were beyond MAD with how the election played out. Jackson and his followers came back with a vengeance and absolutely destroyed Adams in the election of 1828.
Holy shit that was the smoothest transition to a sponsor I've ever seen. I didn't even notice we were talking about Morgan and Morgan until it was already said. Great video as always!
He just didn’t really say much about it. No mention of media controversy or economic success? Or how during his term political division increased massively? What about his resolutions of problems in the Middle East or meeting with opposed world leaders?
Yep and Biden's...He did a great job until he got to Obama. Also failed the mention Polk was the only President to fullfill all his Campaign promises, including only serving 1 term
He obviously had a bias, but we all have biases. I agree he was extremely neutral, especially considering this is the internet we're talking about. His covering of Obama and Trump left a bit to be desired imo
The first glaring error is within the first five seconds. If you can't even put a cursory effort to fact-check your AI-generated script, I'm not going to put any more effort than that into watching your video.
@@MrBones292 All he said is that Trump put "America first" in foreign affairs, was strict on immigration, cut taxes, and loosened regulations. It's more up to personal interpretation wether you think he was a bad president or not.
@@MrBones292if you honestly think that Joe Biden is the worst president in this country has seen than you are delusional yeah he's definitely made some crucial mistakes but have you seen some of these past presidents like Johnson and Buchanan
Very good video but I believe you got the Great Depression era history wrong. Herbert Hoover was not laissez faire on his economic policy. He supported the Smoot Hawley tariff act as well as increasing spending in the public sector for projects like the hoover dam. FDR also did not relieve us of the depression as inflation soared under his administration. Other than that good video.
WAIT. Good handling of the Cuban missile crisis?! The Bay of Pigs was a disaster! Khrushchev prevented it from escalating. Kennedy was indecisive and weak. "let's wait and see what happens" was his strategy. When Russia said "Remove missiles from Turkey", Kennedy's response was basically "yea ok... umm we were going to do that anyway🙄, just don't tell anyone you made me do it". Pathetic. Khrushchev owned Kennedy time after time.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you use a Text-to-Speech reader (due to the ways certain words are being said in your videos). May I ask which one you use? 'Cause it sounds super good.
@@Jeremy-am he literally spoke about everything and only the good parts of his presidency but the moment he gets to trump and Biden he just shits on them like at least make it fair and say good or bad about all
The French and Indian War (1754-1763) was a theater of the Seven Years' War, which pitted the North American colonies of the British Empire against those of the French, each side being supported by various Native American tribes. He also fought in the American Revolution (1775-1783).
Funny, I seem to remember him increasing troop amounts in foreign conflicts and threatening war many times. Biden on the other hand hasn’t started anything and has pulled us out of Afghanistan
@@Diamondking599It's extremely similar to Teddy's foreign policy. Being aggressively peaceful, meaning you create peace using a strong stance, not using concessions. And his policy regarding Iran was definately much better than Obama's or Biden's. Either way, these things weren't mentioned properly in the video
@@Diamondking599 You mean the guy working for the regime responsible for the deaths of many millions of innocent lives? Forgive me if I don't see that as a downside
I get this was fast and i admire that. I'm shocked by some things that were left out. Like Kennedy's legendary leadership of the space race, criticism of Trump breaking the peaceful transfer of power for the only time since the precedent was made by Washington, Wilson's exreme racism, etc.
