One of the 4 songs I wrote & recorded during the pandemic on the album EP "Staminodica." "Everybody's Keeping Me Down" is a tongue-in-cheek song about being a victim of your own life and looking to place blame. It's when you think The Man is too heavy and you can't escape. Well, yah for sure, sometimes things don't go your own way. But if you read Twitter (X), it seems everybody's got someone that's making them angry and "keeping them in their place." But, you are the master of your own destiny ultimately. Don't make things up in your head, no one is out to get you! (for the most part). You just need to get out of your own way.
The song accelerates as it goes; not intentional ... haha ... the first take was my vocals and playing guitar and I just kept it as I built the song around it (the drums came last, they were hard to do -- I wrote, recorded, sang and played all the instruments in this tune, btw). But the quicking pace lends an nice anxiety to the song that builds until the end.
It was released about 2 years ago, but seems to be picking up steam so I'm putting some promotion behind it! (What do you think???) This is a very simple song that took surprisingly long to write. It's a "call and response" , so if I'm singing this live, you guys do the response "Everybody's Keeping Me Down" part. :) See you at the next campfire ... ! ...
