That guy's endurance is going to be worse than a Christmas pig. Cycling is all about efficiency...way too much muscle weight. Top cyclists have slower twitch and high strength to weight ratio.
They don't coast either, so if the wheels are spinning so are the cranks. Basically gears and coasting is "inefficient" so by removing all those you can output an extreme amount of efficient power and go upwards of 50 mph or 80 kph. They have a heavy gear that has a high top speed, but it takes a lot of strength to start. Also in terms of weight, yes it does "save weight", but the UCI (cycling regulation) has a minimum weight limit that is way higher than the lightest versions of these bikes can get so it doesn't really matter all too much.
That’s the the track cyclists Robert Förstemann. His legs are the diameter of a typical professional road cyclist’s waist. Having the biggest legs doesn’t mean you are the fastest - even in track sprint competitions.
