Thank you for demonstrating how you do transfers and I am sorry about the creeps. I’m an architecture student and had an injury several years ago that limits my mobility. I’m trying to design an apartment building that is friendly to everyone, not just able-bodied people, and your video has really helped me with planning built-in assistive features. Thank you!
Jacque Johnson I m also doing the same.. i m architecture student & doing thesis on d same topic.. this video is really helpful to me.. thanks for making this video
Thanks, Steph. I have been a quad for 47 years and loved your can-do attitude. I have written a book "Triumphant Ride" which shares that no matter what happens in our lives, we can persevere and be successful.
This is the first time I watch your video and is amazing . I had a total right knee replacement and used a "Walker" daily for two years. It got damaged , and now I'm in the process of buying a wheel chair because two of my granddaughters love to walk everywhere with me and this way I'll be able to walk long distances with them while holding on to. the wheelchair , and if they get tired of walking , they can just sit and we just keep going . We did the same thing with the Walker , but now they are 7 & 8 and didn't fit in it anymore .p The reason I tell you this is because , a lot of people have moderate to severe physical situations , but prefer to stay home because are very afraid about not fitting in !! Years ago , I decided that instead of not being able to enjoy good times with my granddaughters because of what others would think of me , I just go outside with whatever equipment I need for mobility , have fun and at the same time , without saying a single word :. I'm educating the people everywhere I go !! Hi from Puerto Rico .
Thank you for this video, I have been in a wheelchair since January and it is difficult for me to transfer, difficult for me to do anything! Your video inspires me to want to succeed in this new life God has challenged me with and not to give up🙏 there is a way to do anything. Thank you. God bless
Found you on IG, started watching your RU-vid today. You are so inspirational, I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy n I do most of these transfers, except I'm a bath kind of gal. Lol I'm going to watch all yr videos, I'm so glad I found somebody on RU-vid that I can relate with somewhat. You rock, from: Jamie Littlebear 💜
So great that you are helping other differently abled people work through their hurdles. You are very inspirational while being gratuitous & gorgeous at the same time.
Came across your video accidentally but must say you have truly made my day... you are an amazing, strong, beautiful young woman and I’m sure an inspiration for many people. God bless you and give you the strength to continue doing what you do. Stay happy, it is contagious... thank you ❤️
I appreciate you taking time to demonstrate. My dad is wheelchair bound and i wanted to learn more information to help make things as easy as possible.
I was taught these same transfers when I had two spinal cord surgeries and I lost my ability to walk on my own and my P.T taught me many ways to transfer myself from my wheelchair onto other things. Or without my wheelchair to transfer myself on and off the same way I would do with my chair as I can do without it. Thank you for sharing your tips on how you transfer from place to place
You did an excellent job transferring from everything that you explained and described. You are very lucky that your wheelchair fits into your bathroom!! 🌹😊
You're amazing! You are so strong. I am 71 and have M S. Thank you so much for making this video and helping us understand how to do what we need to do. ❤️🥰❤️
I am a new subscriber. I have Transverse Myelitis and am paralyzed but can move my legs & sit up myself. I can’t transfer like this bc I weigh too much so I’m working on losing weight so I can do so. My fiancé is my caregiver and gets paid to do so. In order for me to transfer anywhere we have to use a hoyer lift. So I’m working on becoming more independent. I tried for months in rehab to do this but it’s just my weight that’s holding me back. But I’m on a strict diet now so it’s working ! Ty so much for sharing this!

Steph, I have recently lost the use of my legs and am in a wheelchair. Your video has been HUGELY helpful to me as a new wheelchair user. Thank you so much for making it.
You’re so amazing! My husbands mom was in an accident, drinking and driving about 25-30 years ago and was paralyzed. She could move her arms and had full functionality of her arms and hands but she basically bent in half in the accident and broke her spine (not sure of all medical terms) she had to have nurses to help her with everything. She could get around in her wheelchair but couldn’t transfer herself or anything. The number of different spinal injuries is amazing (for lack of a better word 🧐) you are nothing short of extraordinary ♥️♥️ My mother in law passed away March 21, 2017 at the young age of 53. She had very deep bed sores and wasn’t receiving the best care. I wish we lived closer to her so we could’ve helped (she inRhode Island and us in North Carolina)
Ok, for the bed, roll up along side it, get feet in front of chair take outside leg and cross over inside leg and put on bed. Now take outside hand and roll onto bed while grabbing bedding or strap to pull. You should end up on stomach. I had to figure this out with back issues. Saves on wrists and shoulders also. Hope it helps
Thank you for this. I have a family friend who just recently has run into muscle weakness and is waiting to be approved for physical therapy. She is in her 70's, and her roommates are her elder sibling who aren't very strong. This is informative and will help them assist her as she works to get stronger. This is VALUABLE information.
I am trying to become more independent with my transfers and one of the biggest issues I have is how to get my legs onto the bed. Found this video very helpful and I want to thank you for putting yourself out there.
Love ❤️ this video Bella, I am Italian to❤️. You made me laugh 😂 when you said this video isn't for all the pervs🙏 I love watching your makeup videos also😊
Hey Steph!! Thx for sharing this you’re motivating me to do even better !! I know there are creepers out there it’s also keeping me from posting anything.. but seeing what good your video did to me I think I might get over my fear. Thx thx thx you’re crazy beautiful ! Keep it up girl!
You're an inspiration for so many, if everyone had your personality this world would be full of love instead of hate for everything. You really are helping so many people. I hope you are filled with many blessing.
thank you so much for showing the difference in each situation. i have many family members who are either paralyzed or losing functions and it was really helpful for what advice to give when i am asked.
Thank you so much for sharing such an intimate part of your life with us all. I came across your channel while seeking information about bladder Botox. While our abilities are different I sincerely appreciate the information you gave. I have a friend with similar abilities as you and I have always wondered how she flows through her day but I have never felt comfortable to ask. I didn't want to be too invasive. Obviously everyone does things differently but you gave me a brand new perspective on things. Thank you.
Very informative video Steph! Thanks for posting. I’d be interested in seeing a video of all the modifications/Knick knacks you have in your home to help make things easier for you. For example, I noticed that you have a little area with a bunch of products next to your toilet for easy access. I am also in a wheelchair myself and have a few things that I have added throughout my home to make things easier for me and so i would be interested in seeing yours! That would be very helpful!💕
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. I am new to your channel. I have a family member who had surgery just recently. I want to understand her challenges as much as I can, to be an encourager. Thank you again for sharing.
Dorene Madrzykowski I’m an OT too I over her videos! A lot of ppl don’t push themselves to become this independent I’m sure it took her years but she’s got it !
Thank you for the demonstration. I am a registered nurse of 18 years now and currently and administrator of a private duty home care agency. You did and amazing job explaining and demonstrating your transfer processes. Have you ever used a transfer board or do you always use your technique and arm strength to transfer? Also, I would like to use your video to show to my caregiving staff, but will not do so without your permission. Thank you for your confidence and bravery for sharing your transfers.
Thank you for sharing. I just broke both my legs with no load bearing on the legs recommended i need ways to transfer without putting pressure on the legs and ankles.
Thank you so much, I just felled down trying to use the toilet. I am terrified to use it again specially if my husband is not around.. I appreciate your tips.
Thank you for the demonstration. I was just in a motorcycle accident and shattered my hip so I'm trying to figure out how to move and reposition myself from place to place so I can go home.
Steph, I learned from you! Thank you! If you live in Ontario, Canada then you know that highly trained workers are available with the needed expertise to help you strengthen muscle, tendons and ligaments needed for your movements, for NO COST to you. If you live in the U.S. you may have to pay for some, or all of the cost. Your local, state and federal political representatives may intervene to help with the costs. My disabled cousine did that and got all of in her charges removed. Just a suggestion. Thank you again for teaching me, Steph.
Thankyou! I have an illness taking my mobility slowly but surely. My home is not accessible what so ever so every day I'm having so much trouble. My upper body has gained a little strength but I'm losing upper body strength. I can not sit up straight alone anymore with out falling forward or to the side . I'm actually stuck ok the toilet and home alone right now😔 lol sad but gotta laugh to keep from crying sometimes .
You make it look easy!.. You aaid you have a tight /snug fitted chair.. What is your chair measurements like a 14 inch or 15?.. Is your camber at 0%? They wouldn't give me a snug chair like i wanted..but it looks so much better for tight spots.. Thank you.
You seem to really embrace your "new life" after your injury. Can you please do a video about how you reach a place of acceptance and thriving? So many people (myself included) are merely "surviving" with a mobility impairment. But you are thriving! Please share your insights. Love your videos! Thank you for your transparency and honesty related to your injury. Very inspiring!!
thank you for the video I'm disabled too i have spinal bifida. with your transfers have you ever used a transfer board? I'm in the process of trying to do my transfers independently with no help now.
It seems a trade between moving the chair as parrallel as possible to the bed (thus minimizing the distance too cover) and not bumping into the wheel/armrest.. Keep up the strength and it rather cuts down on unsynchronized efforts ie when a person has a few drinks. Well done for managing without a transfer board which can be heavy and get in the way.
How to do pull up your pants and undies after using the toilet? And do you put a towel on your chair when your done showering & get dressed in your bedroom?
Great video ! I have osteoarthritis which is very severe and because of that I have no cartilage in my knees and I was reading that eventually I'm not going to be able to walk because the cartilage is so bad and I'm very leery about getting a total knee replacement in both knees because I'm very much overweight which I'm trying to lose weight now and I needed to know just in case about transferring to different things in my apartment like the bed the toilet etc..... I know I have to lose the weight but at the present time I have a power chair and it is kind of bulky. I'm so wondering how I'm going to be able to use the shower meaning I don't think I can get into it because it's not an open shower like yours is but I know that there is a way! I also have to get a shower hose. Right now I'm able to take a shower regularly but like I said I'm concerned in future that I'm going to have too much trouble being on my feet and hopefully it won't be that bad. I give you a lot of credit for making this video and and just being able to do things yourself which is awesome !!!
