Hi friends it's me here :) Thank you with all of my heart for your kindness and compassion while I have been taking some time to heal. To a much lesser extent she reminds me of my first year middle school drama teacher. She would berate us to tears over a small mistake and never apologise for it or even give us more than a “Well atleast there’s improvement “ if she had been strict but fair we would’ve learned and performed much better then we ended out performing.

Honestly, same. I learned martial arts as a teen and the classes were very intense and there was strict decorum you had to follow. However, actually putting a student in danger, verbally berating them, or injuring them on purpose was not permitted. In the rare case that a student didn't listen, discipline was handled through strick enforcement of decorum or additional work.

"Be the person you needed when you were younger." is genuinely some of the best advice I heard, and you echoing that sentiment later on just reaffirmed in that. There's so much crap going on in the world, and rather than adding to it, I hope to help even just a single person keep going. Sometimes that person is myself. And sometimes I falter when it comes to being kind. But in the grand scheme of things, I want to leave this world a brighter place, not darker.

What’s even weirder, is all the moms that just sat back and watched their kids treated like that. Sick. Sick. Sick. All the former dance mom kids have bad feelings towards Abby, explainable… but their anger should also be geared towards their “dance moms” too. As a mother, it’s our job to protect our babies from harmful or toxic situations. These mothers did not do that. At all.
@tartnouveau3652
@tartnouveau3652 13 дней назад
It’s because we as a society put the responsibility on the parent. So it’s not our fault that a kid is being abused even though we’re watching it for entertainment, it’s the parent’s fault. I feel like a lot of people don’t intervene in abuse situations because we leave it up to the parents. Even if the parents are the abusers or enabling it.

In entertainment you’re meant to have your parents as well as agent/manager looking out for you (and you can’t legally sign), so you can’t be taken advantage of. That goes out the window with reality TV where all the usual rules surrounding performers are basically non-existent. I had an agent who was a LOT like Abby and I was fortunate that I had parents who weren’t exploitative and I was the Maddie of my agency. If I had exploitative parents and wasn’t her favourite who knows how miserable I would have been. It was rough enough experiencing the kids around me (many of whom were friends or went to school with me) get absolutely mercilessly blasted by her while praising me. I get flashbacks watching Dance Moms. At least she always looked after my auditions and contracts to protect me, unlike Abby.

Totally. Sometimes I feel it’s better to say, some people aren’t bad, our paths just aren’t aligned and I don’t want to just leave them hanging. I don’t think any of the moms are innocent, especially when they stayed for more than one season. There’s no way you could see your child be treated that badly and exposed to things like that and not pull them out if you were a good parent.
@moonwalkerangel7008
@moonwalkerangel7008 13 дней назад
Especially when the ALDC moved to LA because the kids’ contracts were not legally processed. Because of that, they were not under obligation to comply. That was how JoJo was able to leave in season 6 without legal issues and sign with Nickelodeon. Granted, Abby was Kendall’s music manager so she might not have been able to. But Holly and Nia could have left after all of the racism yet Holly and Nia stayed to build resilience.

They originally signed up for a 6 part docuseries and when they signed their contract they didn't know that Lifetime providing a lawyer for them wasn't in their best interest. Kelly wanted out all the time but they were threatened with losing their money/house etc if they left. They had no way of knowing how realistic or not the threats were. They already had Abby's contract that said that if you left mid competition season or didn't come back if you were a title holder that you would owe her $100,000 (the reason that Christi and Kelly were there when the show started as Chloe and Brooke were title holders the year before)

Pretty simple to be a parent like that, all you gotta do is fail at everything you try (or think you failed even if you didn’t), have a child, and project that innate fear and dread of failure to them using verbal and emotional abuse, creating a trauma so deep that the child will end up resenting you for the rest of their life 😊 (Edit: grammar)

(the head of the school, fyi) and i pulled her right out. we ended up at a different school where i saw my beautiful little dancer dance with a smile of joy on her face for the first time. brought me to tears. ironically enough, her new teacher had been a member of OBT and had left for similar abuse issues.

My little sister used to attend some of the dance competitions that her studio also attended as we are a two hour drive out from Pittsburgh, and a large number of competitions come to that area. They always had issues with the girls and Abby Lee during the competitions, including her stealing idea's from the studio my sister intended. One of their competition dances was called jet set, based around flight attendants. She stole the idea and put it out to the world under the exact same name with very similar costumes and music. They would steal large spaces in the dressing rooms which was being used by everyone competing that weekend, leaving many of the other groups to huddle in a corner with barely enough space to keep their makeup kits in the room. On top of this, at one of the competitions the family was allowed to watch one of the classes through the door. I was about 13 at the time, and loved seeing my sister dance as it made her so happy. I was standing against the door frame just out of the way in case people had to get in and out of the room. Without warning Abby Lee shoves me aside to get into the room despite there already being enough room for her to get inside. She did not ask me to move, or even say anything. She just walked right in. My dad nearly punched her, and probably would've if not for my mom stopping him to avoid a scene. It was that incident that caused me to lose all respect for her, and It has continued to drop over the years with all this drama you spoke of.

Abby hated and held a grudge against Kelly over Kelly giving up dance when Abby saw her as her original golden ticket, like Maddie. Sadly she went on to take it out on Brooke and Paige, and she didn’t like Christi who was Kelly’s best friend who’d stand up for her, so she’d treat Chloe so poorly and punish her to get back at Christi. It was a hard watch. Chloe seems like the most sweet, genuine individual. JoJo is the only one who thinks Abby didn’t abuse them… but JoJo has, in my opinion, been used and abused her entire life by all the trusted adults around her and she hasn’t yet realised or admitted, whatever is behind her denial.

what I see with JoJo... as somebody with a narcissistic parent and other toxic family members... growing up in that kind of chaos doesn't equip you with these self protective mechanisms you should have learned, so basically you don't have that red flag detector. part of overcoming that kind of childhood trauma is self parenting and building those up so you won't keep getting targeted by the same types of people. but if she doesn't want to do the work, nobody else can make her see it unfortunately. for another example of this, see: most of the life of Brooke Shields (I think she's gotten a bit better recently though).

@nivision it unfortunately takes a long time to unpack those things and longer still to admit that the person/people who were supposed to protect you let you down and harmed you. Sometimes it's literally a life long process. That Brooke remains a good person and protective mom in spite of her mom is kind of miraculous.

As someone who suffers from chronic illness and chronic pain, I want to thank you AGAIN for being so accepting of all bodies. Just the other day I had my first appointment with a new GP and all he did was hound me about my weight and my "portion size" despite not knowing at all what I eat. He made so many assumptions about me and pushed and pushed and pushed the point of me needing to exercise more and "just get out and walk." 1) It's freaking summer....IN TEXAS!!! If your aim is to get me to pass out due to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, then I guess your idea would be a "good" one. 2) I told him NUMEROUS times that I am disabled, and sometimes walking to the bathroom is too much for me and I'm in tears from the pain. Heck, I spent less than 10 minutes making myself something to eat earlier today and I WAS in pain because of it. I've already decided that since I now have the referrals I needed, I will not be going back to him due to how unheard and unseen he made me feel. Look, I know I'm fat, and to many people that is an unacceptable thing, but my body is so broken down from things that I cannot control that have eff all to do with my weight. To add insult to injury, I had, just hours before, literally had a midline (fancy term for a longer lasting IV, but not as long lasting as a PICC line) pulled from my arm that morning, because I had been in the hospital for 5 days the week before due to a kidney infection that almost went septic and had to be on IV antibiotics. I have a lot of empathy for the position they were in, and at 13, I was like a dog with a bone, and would not drop the idea of dancing at the ALDC LA. They did the absolute best they could with the information that they had, and it has never once crossed my mind to blame my parents for “not protecting me better“ in my situation. I did not force them to allow me to go by any means, but it was my dream to dance there, and in my parents eyes, they were giving me their dream. While I've not been in dance religiously, I’ve taken several ballet, hip hop, and modern dance classes growing up and NONE of those teachers ever screamed at me or the other kids dancing with me. They could be strict, but there is a very clear difference between strict and abusive. What makes me sick and angry is that Abby Lee has this sense of entitlement over her victims, that they should be grateful for her "making them who they are". The fact is this; no one owes her a damn thing. She was an abusive psychotic drill sergeant joke of a teacher, and while she may have played a part in building those careers for those girls, they don't owe her anything. If they don't want to associate with Abby, then they have a right to do so. It's reminiscent of how abusive parents or partners will treat you like you owe them something, that you should be grateful to them for providing for you and that without them you would be nothing aka gaslighting. Which isn’t true at all, their talent made those girls who they are and Abby is an awful person. Final comment, please take care of yourself Swoop. Love you ❤

i just wanted to give some added context about the OG mothers of the show. Mothers like Christ & Kelly HAD wanted to leave after the treatment for their daughters got worse and seeing how their dance teacher and the production was setting them up to fail for a television storyline, however were not able to as they were bound by contact. This is also why Abby’s treatment for the girls such as Paige & Chloe got worse because Abby wasn’t contractually allowed to kick any of the girls off the team just as the mother’s weren’t allowed to leave with their children which Abby used to her twisted advantage to berate and humiliate the children who she didn’t like in retaliation to the mothers that she wasn’t fond of. Abby also had her own contract where you weren’t allowed to leave her studio if your child won a title underneath her or you would be sued 100k, they signed contacts with abby that she basically owned their child for a year/ the dance season. Due to this, it wasn’t particularly easy for these mothers to leave when things went bad.

Do you have a spare 100k + what ever else you’d be sued for breaking contract? Also when the OG mothers originally signed it was a 6 episode docu series and then the show got picked up + ordered more episodes before the first season even came out. The whole purpose of my comment was to highlight that it really wasn’t that easy to leave once they were locked in. Revealed in her ‘Back To The Barre’ podcast when Kelly would have her outbursts and ‘leave’ the show, she would essentially get threats from production and was forced to come back to filming as she HAD to since she was under contract.

Brooke and Chloe could not leave the studio because they were title holders as well which makes it really sad. Brooke was also lonely because all of her friends her age had moved on from dance and she was forced to dance with her sister, granted she once danced with the senior company but Lifetime did not want Brooke to stay there and dance with her sister. As for Chloe, Abby was cruel excluding Chloe, trying to get Chloe to lose, first to Maddie with the same solo, then with Kamryn (season 4 select team) not once but twice. She also made fun of Chloe’s Silent Sinus Syndrome.

I've never liked reality TV, even when I was a kid. Maybe it's because of my autism, but I just can't fathom how people can watch a show where a grown woman, who sounds like she smokes 20 packs of cigarettes a day, literally SCREAMS at innocent children, making them cry ... and consider that entertainment.

Thank you as always for your kindness and wisdom to this space and everyone who may come across it. I am a firm believer in reminding others what they already know and reassuring those that need it. Its the most difficult thing to do for yourself, so when you do it for others, and they reciprocate, more people can feel seen, heard, and gain some healing from their trauma. There's so many of us out there, and it helps that, even in passing, even if none of us will ever speak to or know each other personally, people can still show that basic kindness a lot of people were trained out of. Much love to you, Swoop. 💜

Just that small clip in the beginning I wasn't expecting this. Thank you. You seem very strong and humble and that can be rare these days. I'm glad that you have supportive people around. For me just hearing you express the gratitude...wow thank you. I don't know you but what encouragement you just passed on. Lately I've been fighting some battles myself and I do well but hearing you be real for a few minutes strengthens me to the core. Again thank you and I wish you the best. Keep Swooping. You're an excellent raconteur. Know you have a fan that sends his support and gratitude your way. Stay strong. 😊

Swoop in case no one told you today, thank you. I adore you! You are not only beautiful but you are so brilliant and have talent beyond words. Sending you a cyber hug and smooch (it’s ok. I could be your great grandmother). Have a glorious day. I love your videos. They help me through my toughest of rough days (my son is 30 and I am his 24/7 caregiver. He has PANDAS (strep in the brain- no cure)). I am watching you after a very long day of self injurious behaviors and non stop screaming. So needed! ❤

Sending you love light and prayers hoping that you’re doing better.❤ I really couldn’t stand to watch this all the yelling and shouting the same like housewives didn’t they worry about their kids being sold on the black market I never watched it so I don’t know

We have to always remember in cases like these, that it is never the fault of just one person. The moms who let their kids be abused, the network that happily recorded and aired the abuse, the advertisers that happily bought commercial slots alongside abuse, and the millions and millions of people who excitedly tuned in week after week to watch said child abuse for “entertainment”. I know, I know, wE lIvE iN a SoCiEtY, but honestly… yeah, it takes a whole damn society allowing this to happen for it to happen.

Let me preface by saying Welcome back SWOOP it's great to see you again, hope your feeling better, take all the time you need, no shame taking time away. Happy you're back and can't wait to see Professor petty again.❤️ I don't get how Abby wasn't called out sooner. Actually, I do get it, it was "funny" to some people, and it doesn't register for some that even tho it's "reality" T.V, those are still real people, real children. And if they did realize it,the probably didn't care. It's so blatantly obvious from just one minute of watching how Abby interacts with the children how abusive and manipulative she was. There are so many scenes of her screaming at CHILDREN, the "comforting" them, and giving them gifts. I am a survivor of CSA,and one of the tactics my abuser used was they, hurt me physically and or emotionally, then would love bomb me with gifts and praise, which made me think, "hey it's not all bad, if I stick it out, it'll get better." These are children, children who were put in compromising situations, and weren't allowed to express that, everything was on the line for these kids and their parents, and one slip up could break your career, Abby lost nothing if she fired them. It sickens and breaks my heart to say that in entertainment, a child is still seen as worth less than an adult, I've done dance and choir, what these girls experienced is not uncommon, it happens so much to the point it's normal. Abby just kicked it into high gear but putting it on national T.V for people to enjoy some else's suffering, and spreading the message that "it was fine to do this, it's normal" Normal does not mean morally correct. Abby should have never been around kids plain and simple.

I cannot understand how these mom's felt ok subjecting their daughters to that toxic environment. Was the "fame"/exposure/money really worth it? It's fucking sad
@Sassafrass95

it's because they didn't love their kids and see them as individuals... they saw them as cash cows and a way to make themselves feel better about their sad lives.... Girls (because I refuse to call those people woman as they certainly don't act like it) like that shoud NEVER have children and if they do they should lose all rights to their kids... People forget children like these can get hurt or even murdered by other people and putting them on stage in these skimpy outfits and dancing to sexual songs DEFINENTLY is guarenteeing something bad will happen to their poor kids
@lindsaybunny19
@lindsaybunny19 6 дней назад
They wanted to leave but they were already locked in by the contracts and they would’ve owed hundreds or thousands of dollars had they tried to break the contract they were risking losing everything they had because Abby would have sued them. Plus the kids kept wanting to go back because they just wanted to dance.

Hi SWOOP! First of all, this is a great doc, and i really appreciate the work you put into your content. Secondly, welcome back. < 3 Wishing you a lot of love and light! I just wanted to correct some information in here, because I think it paints a different picture - Chloe was kicked out BY ABBY, not production. THat contract was ABBY'S contract, not productions. During the filming of season 4, Chloe was not a member of the studio OUTSIDE of the show. She had to pretend the ALDC was still her studio, even though it wasn't because she was still contracted with the show. Chloe left the show because, towards the end of season 4, Chloe started suffering from some strange symptoms that ended up being a result of something called Silent Sinus Syndrome. But at the time, she was undergoing a lot of tests to find out why one of her eyes seemed to be smaller than the other. Abby, on Chloe's last episode, screamed at Christi that she needed to 'get Chloe's lazy eye fixed, because it's ugly.' This was edited out of the show, but it's been confirmed by Christi, Chloe, Cathy and some of the Candy Apple Moms. That was CHristi's last straw, and she fought to get out of her contract. :)
