Better than the Elementum at that price, if you ask me. The $50 budget knife selection had become such a compelling market. It’s really a crazy thing to think about.
Okay Petrified Fish…hear me out. You have made something GREAT here. Now, let’s go ahead and make a Titanium scaled, frame-lock S35VN, M390 or some such steel version. After owning my first one, I can say that I would HAPPILY pay twice the price for that model.
Hey complex, love your chanel. Some constructive criticism, show how these various knives carry in a pair of mockup pockets. Good content brother 👏 👌 👍
Have to say - you were pretty hard on these knives - they look great, action rocks and they are a great price. Petrified Fish Victor, Havrog, etc.... bestech wishes they could have the originality of Petrified Fish.
I wi say from a professional sharpener point of view PF K110 is damn well done. It's the best dine factory (non custom heat treat) D2 I have owned or ever sharpened. Can I say K110 in its self is a better D2 then the normal random Ingot form D2 we normally get? No I can't BUT I can say their K110 out preforms any Ingot formed D2 I have ever cut tested or sharpened..
I bought the Cutlass, the PF939, and I’m in love with the blade shape. So pokey at the tip, slight belly, it’s perfect. And the knife is so fidgety…can use flipper, spidey flick, or do a thumb flick. And the fit and finish is superb. It’s an amazing piece, especially at $38!!!
I agree. It's a fun knife. Definitely punching above its weight. I'm much prefer the beluga though. I had to buy one off eBay for more than retail but really like it. I have the small beluga as well but don't like it nearly as much as the large one.
I don't think I'd like it as much as I do, if it DID have a thumbstud. The front-flip action is awesome, and, at least for me, the reverse flick is spot on. But that's why we all don't like the same knives. Some prefer some features over others. For the money, I think it's a pretty good knife, and I love the dark 'g-mascus' scales on the version I have.
I like to carry bigger knives when I can (I carry a smaller knife for work, a RatII-D2) but I love my Rat-I, I carry fixed blades when I can, but here's my thoughts on that- You can do small knife work with a bit knife...but you can't do big knife stuff with a small knife.
You need to pick up the new PF Victor. The deep, broad clip point and beefitude is right up your alley. It has as good fit and finish as any Civivi but it’s a much heavier build with a very American style bowie design, even though it’s not American designed. The satin finish and the crispness of the grind lines and chamfers are WE level. Very precise, even, and well-planned. It also drops shut absolutely and has an excellently tuned detent. Similar micarta to the beluga. Value for money is off the chart.
I own the large one but I think I’d like the smaller one better. It’s a good knife. I like the washer options they provide. Other companies could take notes. I like the options. Bearing or washers. Hinderer provides that option so it could come across as being a premium option only or just a hinderer option only but I think it would be a good move for other companies as well. After all who doesn’t like options? Thanks Complex.
Agree , I like washers far more for edc as it doesn't get gritty everyday as my knives actually work hard. Now of course I like a bearing pivot on my weekend, "off hour" carry knives. Budgets are for hard work and I look for washers instead of bearings.
The large model at 8 1/4 inches is extremely comfortable to grip and hold. it would be very helpful to have a sheath available so I can carry it on my hip all the time. Does anybody out there have any ideas?
I LOVE THE AGGRESSION TOWARDS THE BIG DUMBASS HOLES!!! Love your videos man, i dont agree with everything, but i appreciate a different perspective. Keep up the good stuff!
I love mine. A real fidget monster. Spidey flick. Thumb flick. Front flip. Top flip. Index finger cross flip. And fall shutty. Just love it. Trying to get my hands on the mini version now.
I agree with MC. I question if Hinderer’s triway pivot is patentable. What do you all think of Super Steel Steve’s call out to the knife community not buy Chinese knives. That would be hard for me. I love Chinese knives.
I had never heard of him so I searched and found his video about avoiding purchasing Chinese luxury items. He makes some good points and I agree with voting with your dollars, generally. But he also has exactly the kind of channel I go out of my way to avoid: Overly opinionated, close minded (just try to present a different perspective in the chat), angry, brash, and apparently more focused on stirring up drama than creating content. Watching 5min had my blood pressure up. If you share his opinions, don’t buy Chinese knives.
@@harrycrab8725 Thanks for replying man. I’m not sure what to do. OCD-4-EDC had a debate with him on his last live stream. From what I can gather Super Steel Steve is against buying Chinese because that directly supports and strengthens their government which is oppressive and outright cruel according to him. OCD-4-EDC maintains that China has an economy that is becoming more free enterprise based. Buying Chinese does help the entrepreneurs there and probably all the people in some way. He buys lots of Chinese knives.
Thumb studs are like genital warts on a blade. The ugliest accessory ever invented for a knife. Are thumb studs slightly convenient sometimes? Maybe…. But is it worth it ? Absolutely not! This knife is bad ass and a thumb stud would ugly it right up.
I agree. I have the big blue micarta Beluga and the small black G10 one, and part of why I love the esthetics is because they don't have thumbstuds. The fuller and frontflipper are opening methods enough for me, and at least now nothing is sticking out over the scales. Super solid knives, perfect lock up, shaaaaaarp and both of mine drop shut.
I never liked the front flipper on my Mini Beluga, so I deleted the front flipper tab and added a Bugout thumb stud. It's like a whole different knife. The blade rockets out ridiculously fast now! I drilled the hole right at the back of the fuller. The design flow of the fuller and overall look of the knife remained the same. It looks like it could have come stock from Petrified Fish like this.
Yeah… I just dropped my Viking… I love this knife truly outstanding. But I told my wife DO NOT TOUCH THIS KNIFE. So I dropped it, it was closed so I assumed it was fine, as I went to pick it up I heard a click and I knew I fucked up… I was dripping blood from the tip of my third digit. Didn’t feel it it was a perfect slice off my tip there was barely a tag of skin left and I was like well I messed that up..
Okay Petrified Fish…hear me out. You have made something GREAT here. Now, let’s go ahead and make a Titanium scaled, frame-lock S35VN, M390 or some such steel version. After owning my first one, I can say that I would HAPPILY pay twice the price for that model.
I have the exact Mini Beluga. Got mine a few days ago, and I like everything about it a lot. If anyone is in doubt, forget about the funny names and all, go buy the knife. It's worth more than the actual price.
I managed to get a scale swapped Boos Blades Smoke CM1 from r/knifeswap. Was originally considering the Kizer genie since I've never had a front flipper before. Something so elegant about them.
@@leesimmons209 what is your opinion on that pocket clip? Unsure if I'd like that on the outside of my pocket plus concerned with the durability considering it only has 1 screw
Loved the design of the big one when I first saw it, but it's too heavy for me and D2/K110 isn't my thing. When they released the mini I jumped all over it and got the same red/black. I like the fact that it doesn't have studs, helps maintain the clean look, and i don't have any issues snagging the fuller to open it.
They have them on Amazon and White Mountain I think. I made the mistake of ordering mine from the Petrified Fish website and it’s gonna take like a month to get it. So order somewhere else if possible. I’m late to the game with this knife also. So I’m glad to watch this video. I literally ordered it because of the hype and the fact they’re always sold out.
Petrified fish lake on one hand it’s stitch you know I’m pointing put on the other hand frozen scared shitless petrified type of thing I mean I’m just guessing
I have a few front flippers and are fun to mess with, it is just not as natural for me to deploy knife from pocket and flip open as thumbstud, hole or top flipper
I just got that same blue micarta Beluga off knifeswap for my wife. She absolutely loves it as blue is her favorite color and she’s not afraid to use it like she has been with other knives I’ve gotten her in the past because it doesn’t break the bank. For the money it’s a helluva knife.
Recollection Of A Childhood Dream I dreamt of petrified fish transforming into pocket knives, giving me fidgets, sweats, a fever broke into a case of railroad worker blues not nary an opioid in sight my clothes were clean though, but I was itching for a fight I called a hotline that couldn't help nobody wanted to fight me, I was Marvin Hagler Suddenly just like that, I was Marvin Fucking Hagler, but in the dream, I didn't know his name yet or that someday in the future a petrified fish is a pocket knife made in China
Oh bummer! They should be centered I agree, and they will center 100%. They are both a tad bit loose in the pivot, just need to tighten that pivot down, not too tight obviously where you can hear the bearings sliding, but just a bit more and they will be smack dab centered ❌
Yeah, the triway pivot system isn’t something revolutionary. It’s just a fancy name for “plastic bag with extra parts”. Not a ripoff in the slightest, when another brand adds extra parts…
Ordered one, I really wanted to love it but it just wasn't working for me. Super hard to reverse flick from the cutout area, had to put my middle finger way down on the fuller to flick it open. If I missed that small section it would tear up the skin on my middle finger especially if I already cut my nails short. Would've been a much better knife but a thumb hole cutout. Ended up returning it.
17:17 Perfect Solution to a Secure Location for Lanyards Rant!!! No more prioritizing a lanyard hole or bar over the pocket clip location!!! You're Welcome!!!
Mine just came in and that front flipper is too sharp, but I finally found a knife I can Spidey flip. Got the all black version and boy this is a big knife.
I started getting into Spyderco early and my preference is to open with the ball of my thumb. Recently, after finding you, I've been trying to Master the Flipper.
I love that blue micarta full-size one. I got the orange gmascus mini because the big one wasn't in stock. Here's hoping I can come across one some day! The mini is fun for now.
