In this video, I share my personal journey of being diagnosed with autism in my late twenties, a revelation that came after years of being told that girls couldn't have autism when I was younger. Growing up, I exhibited early signs that something was different, but these were often overlooked or misinterpreted due to prevailing gender stereotypes. This delayed my diagnosis and led to a long path of self-discovery and advocacy.
I delve into the initial signs of autism that I experienced in childhood and how they were dismissed or misunderstood by those around me. The process of finally receiving a diagnosis was both challenging and enlightening. I encountered numerous obstacles, including losing important information and enduring several misdiagnoses along the way.
Throughout the video, I aim to shed light on the complexities of diagnosing autism, especially in women, and the impact of societal misconceptions. My story is not just about the diagnosis itself but also about the resilience and persistence required to seek answers in a world that often overlooks the unique experiences of women on the autism spectrum. I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can offer support and insight to others who might be on a similar path.
