I remember watching the anime when i was little, and I was so excited and actually cried when I found the new version of it. While it lot a few of the funny moments, the anime itself will always be in my heart.
That's sad, it's nothing compared to the manga. Most anime aren't extremely strict on following the manga. Just like YuYu Hakusho. Anime was great but when reading the manga, you wonder why they even changed it in the first place... Probably because kids watch anime, adults read manga.
It's a great show for kids but I wish they had followed the manga and not changed stuff. Was better when it was just a picture with small texts to read. The anime doesn't even adapt the last arc in the show. Which is the most important part of the story.
What anime did you watch? Kenshin isn't a samurai. He was an assassin, that's it. During this period all swords were outlawed except by samurai and sword schools. Though it's confusing since he has two names and only lords and samurai has two or more names. In fact his wiki page doesn't even mention the word samurai until the movies.
