Question is, where's the sweet spot? You can have excellent goalies at 6'4" to 6'6", but maybe 6'8" and taller you lose too much lateral mobility and you're outside the SS. Because if height is the primary variable in success, there's an ideal. Otherwise, just get Olivier Rioux, a 16 year old from Quebec, who currently stands at 7'6" and is fairly agile for a kid of those properties. He's currently listed as the Worlds tallest teenager. Lol
@Ruuku1 no chance in Hell they move EP40, not going to happen. That's one of the reasons they inked Kuz for an extension cuz he has good chemistry with EP. Management is well aware of EP's comments about wanting to play for a team that's serious about winning the Cup. Through trades and buyouts, by mid July, they'll probably have parted ways with Brock, the Chaos Giraffe, and the Angry Elf. Sadly, Schenn will be dealt cuz of his contract status, but don't be surprised if he's resigned for the next season on a league minimum salary. Schenn has made no secret of the fact that he loves the Vancouver lifestyle.
After his 2020 hardest shot result, I had no doubt he would score around the same or higher this year. Pettersson has matured physically a lot as a player and he has a good technique when shooting, which is another important factor in his high velocity.
You can’t say that, it’s totally different now it’s 99% technique, back when the sticks were wooden there was a fair bit of technique too but just as much brutal strength was needed, I have a feeling if they used the same technique they used to they’re either gonna shatter the stick or butch the shot
@@SuperZbros Fair point, but as much as the game has changed, shooting techniques hasn't been revolutionized or reinvented. Guys were shooting it like they did today where they hit the ice then used the energy of the stick to carry through as well just not as prominent since the sticks would break.
Skill. It's not just technology, otherwise there'd be a PILE of other players doing this. I said it last week: They'd better pencil in Petts for the hardest shot competition this year. I was right. And not all of us are shocked.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see the first recorded shot at 110 like 5-10 years from now. I think players already do hit at least that but those one-timers not being meassured in the games.
Most new records are due to improvements in equipment. Can't remember who did the video but it bascially made that point and showed that track records improved when the tracks were upgraded, hardest shots went up when the sticks were improved, cycling records fell when bikes got better, etc. I don't see anyone beating Chara unless they start allowing longer sticks or they make some other improvement to them.
Every now and then there seems to be a player like Elias, who may not carry a lot of body weight, but they pack a wallop of a shot! The kid looks like he just knows how to shoot, because even his wrist shot is deadly.
Played baseball with a guy who was about 5 ' 6" and weighed 140. Home run hitter, never seen a guy with so much power. It's all timing, weight shift and bat speed. I imagine those same dynamics play a role in slapshots
Human shotgun. It's mechanics all the way. Hip rotation is what generates the power, but hockey players also have to push through to get the whip on the stick. Baseball is mainly hip rotation and short swings with wrist whip.
@@thedingbatdingers4326 Yes, like golf as well. Technique (body position, for example) is key.. Give me a golf club and I'll show you how I've never swung a club before.. lol
Seth Jones an All-Star in 2023? LMFAO. He’s had one good week all season. Kadri an All-Star? He has two teammates with better #’s and aren’t minus. 2 guys that are totally undeserving, but got in for other reasons.
I'm still blown away that al had a 105.2 shot back then with the type of sticks they had then can only imagine what his shot would of been with the new ones
Will Chara's record ever be broken ISN'T EVEN A LEGIT QUESTION LOL :P Martin Frk ALREADY broke his record for the hardest shot ever with a 109.2 MPH BOMB. Neglecting his record just because he's playing in another professional league isn't rational at all. It's a 100% individual record. One pro hockey player, a puck and a net.
Anyone know why Kaprizov wasn't in the fastest skater competition? He was listed to compete in it. Elias and McDavid were the only highlights in this snoozefest of a skills competition.
Dahlin shot 102 damn didn’t expect that from him.I was hoping to see TNT shoot but it’s best he works on getting better. We need him a full health if we’re going to sneak into play offs
I'm Hedman's size at 6'6" 250. And you're right about the height advantage, as long as you have a good hand eye coordination, you don't have to work that hard at power. As a New West guy and a lifelong Canuck fan, you make a good point about Petey, he should be 2 or 3 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier to deliver a puck velocity of that calibre. Grateful he's one of our core guys and the odds on favorite to get the C now that Bo has jumped coasts. Thanks for this bro!
Iafrati's 105 is still the most impressive in my book because it was before composites. but if that stat of hull shooting a 120 back in the day is true that is some insane speed.
Maybe I’m just getting old or senile but I remember the late great Bobby Hulls shot being recorded at between 118-120 mph by the Guinness book of world records!
It is pretty pointless to hit it hard, you aren't going to hit it through the goalie anyway. Precision is more important, but I also think Ovis shot is very unpredictible and hard to read
*Al MacInnis* Right through the boards at *"Practice"*. Broke a goalie's mask. Speedgun measuring devices can't measure that torquing horsepower he had...
We have to keep in mind that Al Maccinnis and al lefrate used a wood stick until retirement. This is a massive difference. Even in his Last special appearance he shot 100mph with a wood stick after being retired over a decade. The guy is 59 years old lol. What do you think Peterson would have clocked using a real stick? Mid to high 80s? Also these shots are fast but not as heavy. There’s a difference. Just watch the highlight of macinnis breaking Jeff Hackets glove hand with a shot that actually went out of his glove and in.
Records are meant to be broken. Someone will break Chara's record, and beyond. 110mph is the next milestone. With better tech, 120 within 25 years, unless they take steps to limit the Tech's effects.
Y’all notice that. Al Iafrate @ 105.2???? Don’t know how accurate that is but that was done when the sticks were made of concrete and not this new fandangled unobtainium Shit! Big Z still has it…..for now anyway.
Joe Malone had at LEAST a 70 MPH Wrist Shot to score 7 goals in 1 Game! Bobby Hull had a 118.3 MPH SLAPSHOT...Gordie Howe at age 37 still had a "Wrist-Slapshot" timed at 114 MPH. Tim Horton at 112 MPH, Frank Mahovlich at 111 MPH (Boom Boom Geoffrion in this 110-113 MPH Range too). Eddie "The Entertainer" Shack had a 109 MPH Slapshot. Jean Beliveau at 108 is COMPARABLE to both Chara and Weber (I'd give the nod to both Shea Weber and Zdeno Chara here as their shots round up to 109 MPH). His wrist shot was better than anyone playing today and 5-10 MPH harder than Mario Lemieux's wrist shot. Radar worked as well in the 1960's as it does now. There's no way that the Bismarck could hit the mighty Hood if the RADAR on Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen wasn't ACCURATE! Now to think that Joe Malone's shot was 20 MPH implies the mind of a TOTAL IMBECILE! If you can throw a BASEBALL 60 MPH then you can shoot a puck at least that hard! Even with a STRAIGHT BLADE on a stick carved from a tree branch!
Hockey is a very different game now than in the past. Hockey in the 50'sAnd 60's is closer to the present game. The 70's we saw a watering down of skill, players especially good ones had alot of ice to boom slap shots. curves and sticks were personalized, not off the shelf. These guys knew how to rip them. Today's game the emphasis is different. Today's sticks are not made for wrist shots of the 50's and 60's. not for the slap shots of the 70's and on wards to the mid 90's. the snap shot, the slap pass, the modified slap shot or even the slap shots are different today. Bobby Hull did not stand on the Blueline. he was in full flight with lots of room to wind up.
Doesn’t matter how heavy a person is to have a strong shot it depends on the mechanics behind it im 5’7 160 pounds I can bench press 350 6-8 reps pure strength I have a slap shot radar and I hit 104.5 got strong wrists and forearm and just know how to lean into the show and where to hit it 💪
He's listed at 6,2 177 lb now, not a small player anymore. He'll pack on a few pounds each year so this issue will be moot. I'd call him a somewhat light player, 3-4 pounds more he will be 180+ wich is pretty much the standard for nhl forwards now.
