This thing makes the Mac Mini look gigantic! And don’t even get us started on how big your full tower gaming rig is. The Khadas Mind is a tiny workstation that has big plans. On top of containing a 12-core Intel processor this thing will be able to dock with an RTX 4060 Ti using their new-fangled Mind Connector! The only thing in their way? That pesky PCIe standard.

As long as they publish the pin out and a few crafty people get their hands on it, there will be a great DIY/Modding community to support it with new peripherals, and hopefully someone entrepreneuring enough to actually make and sell hardware, even if Khadas doesn't necessarily last. A lot of people have being waiting for something like this, so I am sure that a few of them would run wild with that pinout diagram.

@@somerandomnpc9795 If you dont want to work mobile you can just plug it in your "Home Dock" and all the Monitors and Periphals will work without having to plug them all in (as with a laptop). Its also easier to transport the mini Computer than a Laptop.
@phuzz00
@phuzz00 4 месяца назад
@@somerandomnpc9795Usually the benefit of a laptop dock is convenience. You can have all your screens, power, ethernet, peripherals etc. plugged into the dock on your desk, then you can just plug a single cable into your laptop. The advantage of this particular dock is much more bandwidth, so you could have something like a graphics card on your desk for gaming, and dock your laptop to it. tbh, I can't think of any other advantages.
@hurricaneofpuns3722
@hurricaneofpuns3722 4 месяца назад
@@somerandomnpc9795This is far, far more compact. Thermals may be considerably better too (I have to use a thinkpad for work and I've had to improvise legs for it out of post-it-note pads to keep it from overheating on the pre-installed rubber feet) especially given how small the battery on it is. Weight is also better, and the fact that it's designed to hot-swap with gadgets means you could have it basically constantly switching between whatever form factor you need at that moment. I run into that a lot at my job, if I could have my thinkpad be a 2oz tablet when I need to show somebody something or bring it over to another desk that would be way better than trying to either bring my whole 5lb laptop or trying to reposition my ONE 34in monitor (my 2 others are smaller, including the thinkpad's screen, I do CAD at work) so that someone far away can see it

The idea of a this small of a package you can pop in and out and carry around is pretty fun. Would probably be a nice solution for some people with high security needs. Its very portable, stealthy, and the whole thing comes with you. Not leaving anything exposing behind at all.

I think the bases of this is for internal enterprise use. Everyone in the company with one base and one PC, need to make a presentation? Just take your PC and plug it in the base that are already connected to the projector or TV, needs to check a thing in another sector? Take your PC there. Also, with other platform available you could have everyone using the same base but some with more graphic power, to do 3D or graphic work and others just the hub for more office oriented jobs. But i think the size could be a compromise to have more powerful systems.

I can see it being helpful for those of us who either work remote sometimes, or work at different stations throughout the day in an office and would like to bring our setup with us instead of logging into discreet sessions on each new PC across the day without our settings and everything there. Of course that would assume docks are available at each spot, but I guess you could theoretically not use that.

That would be quite interesting replacement for company/school issued laptops. With all work stations having dock, monitor and peripherals, just move the machine bits around as required. Even if they'd be leased by educational institute, by the time student graduates (so generally 3~4 years) the older hardware may very well be at point to upgrade so the students could buy to keep their issued machine.

Of course it is. It's an attempt to use "modularity" as a way to market "Why get a tower when you could replace those standard components with.... the same thing but we charge you a premiium for them and you HAVE to buy them from us!"
@theengineer2017

@@JamesR624 No current eGPUs have limited bandwidth over TB4, and this one uses an actual PCIE slot albeit modified meaning you can possibly get full speed Desktop GPU docks and have a proper gaming setup with the only thing needing to be added is the Mini pc, and the Hotswappable docks is a good thing then because you can have two GPU docks, one in your gaming room and one in the living room so if you have people over and want to play using controllers on the tv you dont have to buy a whole nother computer or console, and 4k 60 can be done with a 4060/4070 which is like 450/500 compared to 600 dollar consoles while still having advantage of upgradable storage that doesn't need to be Xbox or PS5 certified
@user-ds8rj2vc4v
@user-ds8rj2vc4v 4 месяца назад
@@theengineer2017 While that is true, that eGPUs to the level of a 4090 for example have limited bandwidth over TB4, the solution isn't this. 1st - This is an i7 low tdp mobile CPU. That will be a bottleneck long before the TB4. 2nd - USB5 is coming soon, which won't be bottlenecked nearly as much, eliminating that issue almost entirely. 3rd - The RTX 4070 is more expensive than the consoles, so you're just wrong on that. 4th - The RTX 4060 is not capable of 4K 60. I can't even get 1080p 60 in most new titles with my 4060. 5th - Having the modular PC provide no benefits compared to something like a HTPC or even a Lenovo Legion Go. Yes, a USB4 will be bottlenecked to an RTX 4090, but you're talking about RTX 4060/70 cards and they wouldn't be bottlenecked - not to mention the CPU in the Go would be more powerful than the device in the video. 6th - Nothing stops you from streaming from your PC to your TV. Latency is not really an issue with modern broadband for most developed areas. Or alternatively, can use a display port and wireless device. Basically, there are so many already existing alternatives that just do it already, but don't have insane costs to unsupported tech that doesn't fix a problem.
@FragFrog01
@FragFrog01 4 месяца назад
@@theengineer2017 Sure, an eGPU is bandwidth limited over TB4, but this thing is clearly CPU limited. If they can only hit a stuttering 60 FPS on low in CS2, a high-end GPU is going to be severely underutilized. I game on a laptop with TB4 using an eGPU, and while performance isn't quite what it would be in a full desktop, it's surprisingly close. For $1000, you can get a pretty decent laptop, especially if you don't need an internal GPU because you plan to game with an eGPU. And then you get something you can actually use on-the-go.

Here is a project for you to try on your channel that I would love to see results of: A PC case with an attached water coolant reservoir tank on one whole side and on the opposite side have a complete giant radiator. Extensions could be used to for Motherboard back ports, if using the back for the water tank reservoir. Would the Volume of water coolant keep the temperatures down to cooler levels? What would the precipitation/condensation be like? What temps could we see? Could we connect multiple pumps from different ports on the same reservoir? So many questions. Then would using Aquarium items like an Aquarium chiller/cooler keep temps down (it is an aquarium water temp regulator to keep temps down for heat sensitive fish/marine life)? Would using the bubble makers help with cooling as well? Only suggestion would be to try and leave a small 1/2 inch space between tank and Component housing incase of water leak from Reservoir, the gap would we used to collect any leaking water to try and help prevent catastrophe. This has been on my mind for years so would love to see you do a project, building your own aquarium is pretty easy, and with your connections, could see you getting some custom precision cuts for ports/valves pretty easy, you would then just need to build the case to go with it and find a good sized radiator to assist. Edit: also would using etched copper pipes/tubes reduce the temps more?
@liamthedevastator
@liamthedevastator 4 месяца назад
I mean I can tell you a couple things. 1. Volume of water doesn't necessarily correlate to cooling power since the real determinant of cooling power is dissipation not storage. A large volume of water can store a lot of heat energy sure, but as the temperature increases your heat transfer from the computer components into the tank will reduce (temperature differential is what drives heat transfer so hotter "cold" side = less heat transfer from the "hot" side). If you have a large radiator then you can take care of the heat dissipation BUT that negates the purpose of the large tank of water. 2. As per 1. the volume of water does not govern the cooling temperature. The large volume of water would need to be cooled BELOW the temperature you want your components to run at, and since water is so good at holding heat energy you will be spending a LOT more money to cool it. The difference between boiling 1 cup of water vs 10 cups of water is pretty significant, you can test this for yourself. Same pot, same element, same temperature--which one will boil faster? That concept works in reverse. Less energy to cool less fluid. So the only thing a large reservoir will do is resist temperature changes longer, but it won't get colder. 3. Condensation is governed by the humidity of the room you are in and the temperature of the components, both of which result in a dew point where water condenses out of the air. If your PC was in a room with 0% humidity then there would be no condensation, but you'd also dry up like a prune so that would be uncomfortable (also practically impossible to reach 0% in such a large space). 4. Potential temperatures again are dependant on other factors, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to have your temps change slower with a huge reservoir. Only problem is that temperature is going to increase steadily as you game, requiring a large heat rejection mechanism. At that point you're just paying more for less performance. 5. You could have as many pumps as you want, but running multiple separate loops that return to the same reservoir will be constrained by the same temperature increase issues mentioned above. 6. Aquarium Chiller/cooler looks like it could work but at that point it becomes a question of how much heat removal power it has. There are other products for similar prices that'll probably do the trick for you better since those chillers looks like they're designed for ambient temp of a large tank, not handling the large heat additions of a 500W system. You'd need a chiller that can max out at the same amount of power your PC uses. 7. Bubble makers would ruin your performance. Air is an excellent heat insulator so diffusion a bunch of air into your cooling loop would create tiny air pockets lining the lines and blocks that would prevent water from touching the metal and conducting heat energy away from the components. You could induce a laminar vortex into your reservoir to ensure that the cold/hot water is mixing to diffuse heat energy better, but at that point it's like... see 1-6 above. Some neat ideas there but the thermo doesn't really support it. Now if you had a centralized chiller unit that you could plug into with quick-disconnects then you could run chilled equipment throughout your house. That's getting into some wild territory though and I'm pretty sure Linus has done something like that. If you still like the aquarium idea then do it but fill it with mineral oil and drop all the components in it. Lots of PCs like that these days
@NobodyGamingEntertainment
@NobodyGamingEntertainment 4 месяца назад
@@liamthedevastator I understand what you are saying. The reason I am so interested in a PC case with an large/big attached reservoir is because I have my own water cooled PC and also like aquariums, and many times when it came to cleaning my aquariums (29 Gallon & 10 Gallon tanks), I would notice that the water was much much cooler on the bottom of the aquariums. I do use bottom filter system that pulls water from the top and down and a little tube/pipe system releases the water back into the top of the tank, I have noticed that with a bottom filtration system that surface water (top layer water) is much much cooler than if it was still. I do agree that the bubble jets could in fact be counteractive, but at the same time, if using a bottom filtration system, that pulls water down with bubbles that push water (and air) up, it would cause a churning current within the tank that could dissipate the extra heat within the water, as warmer water from the surface would be pulled down into the cooler bottom which would dissipate some heat and the current trying to push water and air up, could trap some heat and release it into the air part of the reservoir. And depending on the aquarium cooler/chiller you use, you could do surface cooling which could cool any coolant returned to the reservoir, mid level chiller/cooler which cools from middle and below more, and bottle cooler/chiller which rest at the bottom of the tank to cool the bottom, and with the bottom filter system, would pull the cooled water down into the bottom and released on top. If confused on what I mean by Bottom filter system, here is a cheap version of one: www.amazon.com/Penn-Plax-Undergravel-Filter-Aquarium/dp/B003UTNOU6/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1DO1T41XUQOT0&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.FngpvUXcQLBOyF-56OhPlhQPap5D310b1oSl-Rb2tpOnq25_zb7WvqYZjqK7XBU-yx2a1rb-tCxPtA0FWtcDZUEi4XSZiVqqWDwuUQf-H3ghHl9ZKolRn4tYpedha0D2TF64MvjsTjK4S1qo7zJK1TW1lVFJpqRhKCItnddYp3-TrHf57ZcVIhZ_LerF0WxBNCnBp3W7PrPhSPXpGdGPdvP-KBmF4m7h_GeIo6dCLNCx7APm2KPhZHh8oaB5-pEGvdPK0l93klRS_5V1jodj1lUNuZnHE37MdRkG_vPOJi8.h4BQtpjoJuwXQG8mXIGdHqhyN7KmkhFVaTyadlSdBNw&dib_tag=se&keywords=bottom%2Bfilter&qid=1711487956&sprefix=bottom%2Bfilter%2Caps%2C160&sr=8-3&th=1 With that type of filter to pull water below and other accessories including a Chiller or cooler, should keep the heat down, and with PC Radiators or any good radiator (Cause apparently car radiators can work according to LTT), the temps should be much cooler. I still would love to see official results from a real live test though.
