Everything About Living in Space

With only five minutes but an unlimited number of questions, you can find out what it’s really like to live on the International Space Station-if you also have NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, who spent 165 days in space during Expeditions 40 and 41 in 2014. Listen as Wiseman answers the questions you would ask about real life in zero g: how big is the space station, is it very hot or cold there, was the food any good, did you prank-call anyone from orbit, and many many more.

First I go to the NASA ISS web site and put in your area code for when you can view it. I have seen a dozen times here in Memphis. It will always come from the west and looks like a really bright star moving fast and can usually view it for 2-4 minutes just after sunset and before sunrise. The way you can tell it's not a plane is if you do not see any blinking lights. The space station does not have any external navigation lights and what you are seeing is the suns reflection off of it. 👍🏻

@Adaj.
@Adaj. 7 лет назад
True, time passes very slightly slower in orbit than it does on Earth. However, we're talking fractions of a second, even over the course of months. On the other hand, the stresses of space travel age astronauts noticeably faster, due to adverse effects on their bones, muscles, blood vessels, etc.
@AG.Floats
@AG.Floats 5 лет назад
Yea I'm going to listen to the astronaut about that rather then some random person commenting on RU-vid. It's been said many times by many legitimate people that you do age a little bit more rapidly.

Are you going to Mars? Lucky we can't get out of lower orbit, NASA says. Radiation levels are too high, to go through van Allen belts, I wonder how we did it 6 times in 4 years going to the moon. I guess the tech was better back in the 60s and 70s. Wait did we fake it, did we fake space travel, well not this time, not mars cause its closer than our moon. Wait its further away? what's going on here, am I being deceived? Could they be taking our money 1/10 of a penny from every dollar earned, from every working citizen in the country and giving us Walt Disney Garbage? I guess if you can't make it, then you better fake it.

One thing I’ve often wondered about but never found any answers to... What if an astronaut gets sick while at the ISS? Say someone gets type one diabetes while stationed at the ISS, it’s really something you can’t predict beforehand, but is there any way of treating medical conditions such as diabetes in space? Or is there evacuation plans in place in case of incidents where a crew member gets sick with a condition that doesn’t just clear up with a round of antibiotics and a bit of rest, but actually needs proper medical intervention for an extended period of time or for life? I know it’s common among astronauts to be a medical doctor, but that doesn’t really help if a crew member suddenly gets sick with something like type one diabetes, Crohn’s, hypothyroidism, cancer or what be it unless it can be treated on location, or the person can be evacuated back to earth for medical treatment. Something like an autoimmune disorder or cancer really doesn’t care if you’re the most fit person in the universe, if it hits you, it hits you, so yeah. Always been wondering how such a situation would be managed while someone is on the ISS and may have months left before their planned return to Earth... Would be pretty worrying if astronauts are up there and risk not having access to medical care in case of a sudden onset illness that can be life threatening even on Earth
@61O_42
@61O_42 4 года назад
Well, i guess they study they medical story and try to predict if they would have one of that type of sickness, but in case of that happens they would be sent back to earth.
