If crabs do get added and they rotate mojang better update the spider as well like they really need to improve the animations of older mobs so they all feel as though they come from the same world like the difference in sniffer and camel movements to cows and llamas is just annoying

The design may look unrealistic on a first look but it’s actually a perfect match for a fiddler crab, just enlarged like most Minecraft arthropods. They live in real life mangrove forests and the males have a single giant claw. The claw is usually brighter than the main body and many species have bright colored bodies and claws. Some are even blue and orange like the ones in Minecraft

The crabs shown in the video actually resembles a real-life group of crabs known as fiddler crabs, with one claw much larger than the other!

The crab is likely to be based off real life mangrove blue fiddler crabs. They have one larger claw and a smaller claw similarly to what the design of the crab is that we see in the livestream

When it comes to crabs they can actually be hugely varied in how they look! There are a couple species of blue/ orange and blue crabs that are real! :)

@@pico1136I'd love different ones for different Biomes. Brown and red for temperate Beaches, maybe one that looks like a Vampire Crab for Rainforests, a greyish brown for normal Swamps, maybe something for Coral Reefs too. The other Types could be smaller, so you would still need to find a Mangrove Swamp to find Crabs with Claws that are actually useful

Crabs do molt, so maybe that’s how they’ll drop claws. I think it would look something like how chickens lay eggs in game - once every [time interval] the crab drops a claw.

Crabs are purely being used for block placement reach that’s all nothing else not for interactions example buttons and switches and will not be dropped as a food also the crab will not be used to break blocks out of reach it’s only for block placement …..there is no pvp aspect to it if anything servers will ban them due to it only being used for block placement in the end this is a build item with ONE JOB to place blocks in spaces out of reach please guys listen to facts and stop jumping to conclusions or listening to videos who are never right about what they tell y’all are facts

@@thesardonicrenegade3065 No, looking at it logically means don't Fing assume. A vote is based on what is confirmed, not what is speculated. Otherwise it's a false hope and thus a misplaced vote. What is confirmed is that it's for builders to place items. What is not confirmed is if it's for minors to break blocks. Anything not confirmed should be treated as something that it doesn't. Because that's whats best for making a healthy vote. Don't spread speculations as it will cause misplaced votes. Stick to known information only.

When they first revealed the crab I thought the crab claw would let players grip onto blocks from the side, like a wall cling. They showcased the crabs crawling up trees and it would be super fun to hold the claw in your offhand and save yourself from a fall or get a good look at a build from a high place, or maybe even let you mine stuff from walls without piling up or digging down from above.

I feel like they wouldn’t make it too op. Maybe just 1 or 2 extra blocks reach, since it doesnt really seem that hard to get so its not that op. I was thinking maybe you could craft special crab claws with diamonds or something to give it even better reach, or maybe an enchantment on it to do the same thing. To make it more balanced it could have durability too

the crab they are showing is based on the blue fiddler crab and according to google they are Found in mangroves, in salt marshes, and on sandy or muddy beaches of West Africa, the Western Atlantic, the Eastern Pacific, Indo-Pacific and Algarve region of Portugal, fiddler crabs are easily recognized by their distinctively asymmetric claws.

I think a cool idea would be some sort of lizard that allowed you to zoom in (like the telescope) but you could combine it with a helmet to have goggles. Further, through some difficult enchanting (to also make enchanting more fun), you could then have it so you could see monsters better at night like prey detection (on a duration basis with no way to repair, so it entices you to do it all over again) That or some device to mimic a lizards/frog's tongue or crab claw so you can strike farther and/or more rapidly

the first aquatic update was in 1.13 and we are in 1.21 and adding the major versions gives 3, henceforth the crab will be added in 1.23

There are actually blue crabs in real life too. The color scheme resembles them. It's more greenish blue with tan colors though rather than orange.

Sounds like the crab claw or it's derivative item would be a lot like the Extendo Grip accessory in Terraria. Makes sense from a design perspective, since an extendo grip is just a mechanical claw on a stick. Maybe they'll start adding more "gadgets" that are like accessories in Terraria 😊

Fun fact, real life mangrove swamps in Australia actually have crabs. So a crab in a mangrove swamp isn’t that unrealistic, can’t explain the color though.

I don't think so. Just cuz there's a crab in the mob vote does not make it seem like there's going to be another aquatic update. My prediction actually is that they will update the Badlands or the Savannah because those still need to be updated from the biome votes and the desert as well but more than likely they're focusing their attention on Savannah and /or Badlands and the armadillo would work perfectly either way because now you have termites and armadillos. And if you're in the Badlands they can still add it to the Savannah but they may have an alternative version that can spawn in the Badlands like a red one who knows or they can spawn in both Badlands and Savannah as brown. It really doesn't matter

Real crabs molt their entire shell, including their claws. (Found this out via a horrifying video of a crab molting 💀) so possibly the claws can be obtained once the crabs grow up from baby crabs, like minecraft turtles.

If they do add three mobs with reach for placing breaking and hitting it will be extremely dividing as builders will want the first two but pvpers will be sad that they lost the chance to do crab pvp . It should have all three abilities that would make more sense

After crab, there will be Jellyfish and at the end, the third mob to vote will be a Seagul. Crab would have the Best item, crab claw, to place more far away blocks. Jellyfish would you new effect, electricity, for real life they are Dangerous on touch. ( would be useful to protect you from Drowned mobs) Seaguls can be annoying, even in real life they are stealing foods, probably would steal dropped items. ( If we Die in game, some of the items will be stolne from them, if our death Point would be at any Sea biome)

I do like how the crab looks like a fiddle crab and how they wave in the air. Not sure if I would vote for it however. Going to be honest, I don’t like how Minecraft is implementing mobs more as an “educational” experience rather than game mechanics. I understand that some mobs such as Axolotls, Parrots, and Dolphins are not meant to be killed and used for other ways. They are very likely to be in human experience so I get why. But crabs should drop meat that can be cooked. I personally don’t want to vote for another mob to just have it sit around until it does something out of my control. I personally doubt that a kid would look at a crab in real life and say “I need to kill that” since they should know the difference between video games and real creatures. Maybe Im being too harsh on this subject but I do really want something new for this mob vote.

I think there should be specific discs that made specific mobs dance, like parrots. But only specific ones, like pigs and piglins should dance to Pigstep, how cats should dance to Cat, Warden should dance to Ward, (wait did i just say 'toward'?) And so crabs should have like THE CRAB RAVE

How would a crab claw allow you to place blocks further away that makes no sense lol! I've always thought there should be a tool enchantment that adds range, and having and item allowing you to place blocks further would be sweet. But the swamp thing is also wierd, I mean they should be a warm beach mob that buries in the sand. Maybe a brush could get them out. And you could get the claw from a baby growing into an adult like with the turtle scutes.

I will say it is a shame, people don't listen and think about exactly what the new additions do. So many people think a boost to build range will help, but Minecraft builds by you seeing the facing of blocks. You need to see the top to build up and sides to build to the side. This would only make the claw useful for ceilings but you need to put light on the roof meaning in the one moment it could be helpful it is immediately offset by the fact you needed to climb up there. There is some use for the Crab but it is so niche and offset by the fact you will need Ladders or Scaffolding. To the point where it is likely going to be worthless.

I'm not necessarily sold on the utility of the claws unless it's a really significant extension beyond what I would expect to be 2-3 blocks, but also anything beyond 2-3 blocks also just feels absurd. Personally, I'd absolutely love if they just added crabs instead of offering it up in via mob vote, but without trying to shoehorn in a "reason" for them a la the claw... so I'm split on this. Maybe I'll still end up voting for it 🤷‍♂

Even if it was infinite range even outside of render distance, I really just do NOT see the usecase for it. In what world is it that much of a burden to just walk closer or scaffolding closer to where you want to build. It's not like it grants bedrock-like bridge building.

@@Hadeks_Marow Yeah, that's where I'm at, as well. While there are some things that would make building feel better, additional block range hasn't ever really been an issue. Reminds me of the Extendo Grip in Terraria, really. It's nice for like 5 min, and then you just get used to the new range.

@@KONPAI666OPPAI Like even in the create mod with the extended arm that effects tools and stuff. It doesn't do that much benefit. And this is only for PLACING blocks. Not even breaking. There is only ONE exclusive use-case for this where it wouldn't be more reasonable to just carry 64 scaffolding: TNT + Redstone Block/Redstone Torch. That's literally it.

Im glad we think alike. Crab is high on my voting radar for that extendo-claw. I like that it'll actually provide solid functionality.

Why? What is so hard about using scaffolding to get 3 blocks higher/walking 3 blocks forward? If your doing a massive build. . . do you really want such a niche item taking up ANOTHER inventory slot _(as if we don't have enough issues with that already)_ just to get a very minor improvement that's also very situational.

@@Hadeks_Marowhave you ever done a massive, huge build? If so, then you understand why extra build reach is huge. Scaffolding requires way to many blocks to use properly, and you can't really walk forward if say your build has tall walls, a huge gap in the roof or floor, you're standing on a 1-block pillar, etc. This is infinitely more useful than any QoL building tool we've had before.

Hmm, crab claw sounds like a type of gauntlet…. Hmm, let’s see, which Mod has gauntlets? I’m calling it now: WE’RE GETTING AN AETHER UPDATE EVERYBODY!!!!!!! WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! In other news, can I eats crab too? I may not have lobster in Minecraft as a foodstuffs, but crab would be just as good. It’d be just like that TV show, Deadliest Catch. If these guys win, I’m building me a crabbing ship and a seafood restaurant! WWWOOOOOO!!!! Too bad I don’t like seafood. Oh, and I’m still waiting on frog legs too as a Minecraft foodstuff. Too bad I don’t like them either, but still.

That crab design resembles real life crabs as much as the frog resembles real life frogs, they're both extremely stylized
