Can I upgrade my 20s with these speakers? Can’t stand the quality of the 20s sound and this review sold me on the new set up. Great video you two, solid in-depth review
It's mind blowing that a $339+ headset isn't waterproof. I'll never support sena because of that reason. It's mounted outside of a helmet and rain exists. My $45 Amazon special headset is waterproof also has better battery life and decent speakers.... Only downside is no group mesh system (I ride alone so I don't worry about that) also no voice control
Seems like Sena just caught up to Packtalk with the 50s (except for the waterproof rating). I heard some say they have rode in the rain with no problems with their 30k, leading to supposition that Sena just didn't pay for the testing or rating.
I've chatted with Sena customer service about an IPX rating on their new 50s. They basically said it's not rated but is water resistant. At least with the Cardo units they have an IPX rating
@@Road_Rash1 BS. My 30K died by riding with it in pouring rain for about 2 hours. When i decided to change it with packtalk bold jbl, no issues at all with water. And the waterproof problem is not exclusive to my units, my friends also experience the same thing, 1 other 30K and 4 20S/evos
What about mesh ingtercom. WE left Sena 4 to 5 years ago because we just couldn't stand them any longer (after 3 years of long trips with 4 to 5 people). The "popcorn", Drumbeat", or what ever you want to call it was just too annoying. And the dropping out and having to reboot to regain communications was just awful. And any time 3 or more people were in intercom communication, music just didn't work. Sena said that they couldn't reproduce any of the symptoms that so many of us reported. The symptoms (mentioned above) were ABSOLUTELY repeatable. So we finally gave up and bought PackTalk. PackTalk does not have Ambient or SideTone, two very important features. We'd consider going back to SENA just for those two features if only the mentioned issues have been fixed. But without the problems we experienced with 3 or more users in Intercom communication, we cannot consider going back. Andy feedback on those issues?
Idk if it is an Android thing or what, but I have been able to use Google since the 20s Evo by hitting the phone button on the back of the Sena. Also on the 30k so that's no new feature.
Hi Kat we find the Senas the same as the 30k's in all specs other than the ones you mentioned. i ride a 1400 kawasaki and i have a goldwing which when in large groups and connected to the Goldwings Sena bluetooth adapter we find the senas fail to function either with phone or another connected device or headsets. if you could test them with a larger group of people to see how the units react it would be helpful to others looking for a solution to these connection problems. i know you will find these units perfect for you but multiply the connections the reports are that these 50 series are no better than the 30k. once the virus is over put a group ride together and let us see how they perform , stay safe best regards JB
Did you guys run the 30K on the 50s mount/speakers to determine if it’s the speakers themselves or the unit and speakers? The speakers are available separately and would be a very cheap upgrade to 30K if it’s the case. Also you have been able to use Siri/google for ever on Sena - you just have to click the phone button once to reach them (which personally I prefer to voice commands)
I think people have to explain why they don't like videos. I mean did they not like the product, or is it not good enough camera work for you or what? You guys did a great job. Clear info and everything I need. Thanks!
YASSS! I’ve been waiting for this review! So far I’ve had the 10R, 20S, and 30K. I always felt like my 20S got louder than the 10R-I loved it for music only. The 30K has been pretty damn good to me and if you tap the rear button on the 30K you can also control your phone (atleast with hey Siri). As much as I love the 30K you may have convinced me with the speaker quality 👀👀👀 I want more bass 🙌🏽 Shared this video with all my ride homies!
Speaker quality is worth it alone... also I didn’t know that about the 30K. I thought you could just use “hey Sena” or whatever 🤣🤣 thanks for watching !! 💜💜💜
First man in the world that reads manuals. Amazing! 🤣👍🏻 It seems the 50 series has a direct button that triggers your phones assistant. I think that maybe the difference.
So sad that there`s nobody making anything that pair with wireless earbuds.(that actually send sound through them) I cant believe that the motorcycle intercom-makers" haven`t come up with anything that pairs with my jabra 65t elites. Wireless earbuds is such an upgrade, compared to helmet speakers. Great video btw. Greetings from Norway.
Good luck getting your cheap friends to spend that. Then you have to deal with Sena/Cardo connecting (not fun). And if they went to mesh your screwed out of the group completely. Is Cardo better? Yes! Will it ever be popular? Doubt it.
Johnny Vos we have sena and Cardo friends connecting every day. No problems at all. Not sure why you can’t connect. Sena speakers aren’t much better and clearer than cardo in my opinion. Yes you can mesh
What is the mah rating of the battery? Hopefully 1100mah. Are the speakers HK.? Is the warranty 3 yrs? Do the contacts on the outside get wet and screw up?
I literally have a Sena SMH5, the cheap $95 one and I’ve always been able to use Siri on my Sena.... one tap on the sena and I’m using Siri (iMessages, reminders, maps, everything u would normally use Siri for)
Obviously this test was performed in 2020 and we are now in 2022. I see on Amazon regardless of the Sena headset (even the 10’s) there are side bar adds/links to the Harman Kardon sound that Sena is offering. However, when you click the link, there is no mention of Harman Kardon??? Sena advertises these Harman Kardon setups, speakers and mikes on there 50’s as the “Quantum Series”. I’m confused! Were the 50s you purchased the “Quantum Series”? If not, did they come with the Harman Kardon setup or what is being call the “HD” speakers? Are the HD speakers Harman Kardon? I’m really 😐!
The Bluetooth works fine. Speakers not loud enough. Mesh SUCKS! It works when it feels like working. Range is not near advertised - even in a completely unobstructed environment. It’s susceptible to environmental interruptions. Stopped working after a light drizzle. NOT WORTH THE PRICE!!!
So let me get this, the first time you ride you use BT and not MESH, LOL. I mean really, why spend £300 on a helmet headset to use the tech that a £50 headset will offer? And you didnt add a user you repaired with a paired person... Dont be disingenuous when making this kind of content, you have clearly been paid to make this video.
Just to point out that Cardo units are rated at IP67 and are relatively waterproof (backed by the manufacturer) whereas Sena units are NOT waterproof or water resistant in any way. Sena units come with 'dust covers' for open ports and button gaiters etc but are not suitable for rain! Sena make no mention of 'weatherproofing of any of its product documentation. I live in Northern England and found out the hard way. Wet weather riders be warned!
I have not been real comfortable with SENAs help line. Had some battery issues and all they wanted to talk about was it was not under warranty since I opened it up. I kept telling them it is sellout of warranty time wise and all I was asking were battery charging issues. Never got a staring answer...
Kat- how is the battery life, you loving your bass how long will the battery last when listening to music. Currently, I have a Neotec 2 and the SRL 2 that will only last just under 6 hours.
The title says EVERYTHING about the SENA 50S yet you never touch the dial and show some of us that have never used one of these what it all does, in fact you really didn't show much of anything on how to actually use it if your phone is in your pocket and you want to use the knob. I guess I have to find another video to see what's not included in EVERYTHING. HAHA I guess it's not a tutorial type video just a "basic" review type. I learned some things, but not everything. LOL
The 30 and 50 cradles are NOT the same, the connector is different, look at the pins, also they upgraded the water proofing, it is not waterproof, but it is better.
FYI, Cardo has voice activation since the previous generation of headsets and no I dont work or get paid for this. I hate content that is miss leading, nothing sin the video is factual and ts all personal option. There it is, the have been sent them, not a single suggestion or dislikes, just 10/10 all the way, mmmm.
I don`t know why sena decided to go with velcro tape to hold the base and the comm together...why not make it like the 30k which you can remove and just click back on.
Are they IP67 water proof yet? Stupid to have a devices that isnt dust an water proof thats fits on the outside of your helmet... Just looked no it isnt, lame!
Older models can use the mesh 2.0 with an adapter they are selling. Its a separate device you mount to your bike, temp or permanently. Think of it as a bridge.
I find 50s the best one until now. I want to say both of u look gorgeous today keep it up Kat (all the love)+do u miss scmm party, all we need a timeeeee.
If you use a GoPro hero 3 silver, you can buy the Sena Bluetooth audio pack which attaches to the back of the GoPro. My husband and I use it for our dual vlogs and you can hear both of us through the Sena mic. It’s a nifty little device. 😉
Do you like it vs the CARDO type of communicators? I see the SENA is currently pushing towards the same features as the CARDO. Just wondering your opinion on the differences. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the review and great video. I'm really interested about this new Sena 50 series and I'm looking to replace my Sena 10c so I'm eagerly anticipating the 50c. You should really test it against the new Cardo Packtalk as their audio collab with JBL is supposed to have really enhanced their audio quality as well. One thing I do notice is I love Sena's use of the jog dial as I've found that to be more user friendly with gloves
One of my biggest gripes with Sena over the years is at speed on European trips the sound was just drowned out by wind noise and you couldn’t hear music let alone any speech...over say 60/70 mph. How good is this units speakers versus the Cardo Packtalk? Also I have the option between going for this or the SRL for my new Neotech 2 Shoei...would the Mic be route-able the same way? Thanks in advance and for making this video
if you whant better sound get a separate propper speakers like the Iasus xsound 3... the speakers that come with most intercom brands like sena and skalarider etc. are budget get a sett and replace the intercom and keep he speakers when upgrading... for me the sena 20s is gonna be my intercom as long as i cant have mesh and Bluetooth intercom together in one group for at least up to 8-10 riders...
Thanks for the review. I have long thought about SENA but was concerned over the cost vs quality. I currently use another brand and it meets my needs. But, the SENA is peaking my interest again. :)
@@williammeredith8632 I can't get my idiot friends to stop buying Sena.... I wish the new version of the packtalk slim would release so I could try to talk them into going Cardo.
Yes but does Cardo have anything like Freewire so one can go wireless with their Goldwing or HD? I don't see anything so this is a huge factor for those of us who want to be wireless so therefore Cardo can't compete....
there is no need to switch to Sena. I am very happy about my Cardo and the JBL ear speaker is crispy clear. Two features that keep me using Cardo, water resistant and easy to operate. Cardo is still ahead of Sena.
Been riding 6 years never thought I needed one but I might just have to get one. The only thing about the 50S is that it appears to be very large on the helmet I like the looks of the R better because it’s smaller
These must be good; this is the most excited I've ever seen Alex! Is there any hope the 50S will play well (or at all) with the Harley Boom! Box GTS? Or is Harley like Apple, going to extremes to make sure their products DON'T work with anything else?
These should fit. They come with the riser pads n stuff so you can tune it’s placement to your liking. As long as your helmet has a little circle space for the ear pieces under the padding, it’ll be good.
The speakers are terrible. I have a cardo with the JBL speakers for my winter helmet. And a Sena 50s when I ride with friends I had to upgrade the speakers to JBL $80 extra but worth every penny the Sena speakers suck !!
@@Snoopy4156 Yea I am sure they do. Opinion on Musical taste and sound preference is subjective. I have ATH M50X any helmet speaker to me sounds like trash, but if I compare it for face value, I believe Sena offers more in exchange for actual speakers. If solely shat on the Sena for Speakers, you're in a small world my friend. Until Cardo ups their game and brings us BT5.0 for the price they're asking I'll stick with a Sena. By the way this is coming from someone who bought a Cardo Pactalk Bold and had DOA, took forever for Cardo to refund me and the customer service was garbage.
hi, can you test the 50s pair to smh10 ?, because i have smh10, and last week i ordered 10c pro, when i paired to smh10 and turn on the audio multitasking feature for listen gps from my phone and talking to my wife at the same time but the gps/music from my phone sound stuttering and skipping, if i turn off my smh10 the sound normal again, i really need that feature so i can hear gps and talking to my wife at the same time, if you still have smh10 please please can you try it the audio multitasking on 50s ?, i have to return 10c pro because it cant perform audio multitasking very well, thank you very much, sorry for my english, not my 1st, 2nd, 3rd languange. i hope you can test it.
Just got the Sena 50s two pack. Have you noticed that one of the speakers is louder than the other? My right speaker is louder. Our units are all new so I don’t know why they’re like that. Should I return? Got them off revzilla
The 50R has a smaller battery & does not use a large clamp mount. It has to be charged on the helmet, no aux input or ear bud jack. Great that they improved their speakers. They had to in order to compete with Cardo's jbl speakers. In open mesh setting riders can join without any pairing... Simply come into range on the correct channel (1-9).
I had a 30k and just like like the new 50 series, it's not waterproof, in 2020!!! Now rocking the Cardo Packtalk Bold, which is waterproof. If you want better speakers the Cardo has JBL, the app and connectivity of the Cardo is also superior.
Hi Kat. How did you get your voice so clear when you were talking with the helmet on? Did you plug the GoPro with the sena mic? What did you do? Thank you
I have and have had the SP-52 series. It connects to my iPhone and Garmin GPS. I have used it with my iPhone for Siri plenty of times. The only issue I have is the SP-52 only connects to 1 other rider. I want the 50S for better hearing quality and for more riders. Hope I can still connect with both my iPhone and GPS with no issues.
Thanks for the review. MY QUESTION--- We ride quads in the woods. EVERYONE in our group 10 of us have 20S Evo's and all the settings are exactly the same. We can never get 4 to bluetooth for very long. always splits to two sets of 2. I really cant force 9 other's to sell their 20s evo's and all upgrade to 50R's. But if I get a 50 R your saying we CAN NOT mesh. Is that correct? Thanks Bert
