Everything About the Sony Spider-Man Universe 

This was such a great look at what Sony has done with the character and what they’re going to be doing. You did a great job at staying neutral while also discussing how and why Sony has been failing recently. Explaining all the characters that we’ll be seeing was also super helpful, I feel fully caught up on all the Sony drama lmao. Another amazing video! Also I was shook when you said it flopped and showed Gwen’s body snapping 😂

The Venom movies are really a "guilty pleasure" of mine so I was actually kind of happy about a series of movies revolving around a "Venom-verse", but the way Sony is trying to set up these other anti-hero movies definitely has me worried that they won't have the same charm of the Venom movies. Like you said, there are certainly some that sound promising and I like the idea of exploring lesser known comic book villains, but their slate seems a little ambitious and I could definitely see several cancellations i.e. DCEU style, creating a bit of a messy series. I think that a Spider-verse without Spiderman is *possible*, but it would need to take some risks that I don't see Sony being willing to take at this point.

Sony have to stop making these villains movies and we want it's the amazing spider man 3 and tobey maguire's spider man 4!

What I think works the most for Sony's Spider-man is the fact that it's more about street level heroics rather than trying to stop the end of the world. The only Spider-man movie that was truly about the potential end of the world was No Way Home. Spider-man 1 was a personal vendetta. Spider-man 2 was saving someone who lost control. Spider-man 3 was back to personal vendetta. Amazing Spider-man was trying to save someone who lost control again. Amazing Spider-man 2 was a personal vendetta on the bad guy's side. Homecoming was a personal vendetta. Far From Home was about Tony's legacy. No Way Home was about consequences, but had a touch of end of the world to it. Attempting to turn villains into anti-heroes generally doesn't work with very few exceptions. For the most part, villains are villains because they are irredeemable in some way. If you want to go for villains that can be redeemed, Venom is honestly not a bad place to start. Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson have always been jerks, but they eventually proved themselves when it came to the need for something greater and the Symbiote does that as well. However, the list of Spider-man villains that can do this is absolutely miniscule unless you plan to rewrite all of them. You could do Doctor Octopus, The Lizard, Black Cat, Sandman, and Silver Sable try to do a version of the Sinister Six that would function more like the Thunderbolts. But outside of these 6 (including Venom in that count), it would be hard to make a point for them to be anti-heroes.

They should make the sinister six movie just like the avengers but the team up is full of bad guys. And at the end instead of winning they lose to the ultimate antagonist of the movie, spiderman

All I’m saying is that if Sony wanted a slice of the cinematic universe cake, the Spider-Verse was right there. I mean, think about it. Standalone/anthology movie for any Spider-Person, gorgeous visuals and a different artstyle for each movie, and then finally culminating in a Spider-Verse crossover movie.

I imagine they're trying to capture the Marvel essence by making a movie with lesser-known characters, like Iron Man was pre-08 and Guardians of the Galaxy. It could work really well if they start making good movies. Put money into good screenwriters and directors, and trust they can do the job.

I honestly want to see the SSU succeed. I’m sick and tired of the content made by the MCU currently. I’d rather watch Morbius and the Venom films over anything the MCU is currently making.

It’s really funny to think that Sony tried so many years to keep the rights to Spider-Man to themselves just end up working with Marvel anyway.

I agree the potential is definitely there considering the “catalog” of licenses and characters they have (I love the way you said it), although personally I can’t say I’m super excited, mostly because I have a heavy bias for animated spiderman stuff. At the same time, more superhero movies are always good for superhero fans so it would definitely be worth checking out! Something I hope they add (live-action wise) and something I have always loved is a Spiderman team up. Having a spidey fight off some iconic villains with an anti-hero like Blade or Ghost Rider (fave character bias) would be super cool for an introduction to a range of anti-hero, hero, and villain stories. Because of licensing this will probably never happen, I have always loved any x-men and spidey meet ups. Wolverine and Spiderman made a comedic / badass duo. I very much agree with you about having a new spiderman like Ben or even live-action Miles. I think it would add a lot of excitement and freshness to the movies imo plus both deserve the spiderman spotlight. Another amazing video, makes me want to rewatch everything spiderman now lol. I also would be super into seeing that license video, that would be a cool visual!

I just want to see Miles in live action. Preferably in the MCU.

I think there’s certainly enough characters there that could be interesting to see on the screen. Spiderverse is so good that I can’t completely say I don't trust them to make anything that will be fun to watch. That said almost everything you went through makes me feel like those are gonna get botched…. Let’s hope they have people on the team that are fans as passionate as you and the rest of us who care about what they end up giving us.

Would love to see Spider-Man vs Kingpin or Dr. Doom. Love to see him team up with Wolverine, Daredevil, or the F4

I feel like Sony needs to quit. Why they so hellbent on the movie rights to a character that they didnt even create. They got a good thing with Spider-verse. People want to see these villains fight Spider-Man not be some anti-heroes. Even if Disney rushed it on a tight schedule, they could do whatever they want with Spider-Man and it would be way better than Sony's pathetic attempt.

Sony is really between a rock and a hard place, because it's basically on the same boat as DC, but DC has all of its properties and Sony has only Spider-Man, which they can't fully use because he's already at Marvel. DC put villain movies on the map and pretty much shut up anyone that says they couldn't work, so Sony definitely can do the same, but there has to be dedication, cautiousness and patience, all traits that Sony lacks without a good direction. They got lucky that Venom was a big hit, because the sequel box office got smaller, even though it had a connection with the MCU, which nobody even expected, then Morbius flopped and now nobody knows what their plans are anymore at this point. There's been speculation that some movies like El Muerto have already been cancelled along with Madame Web being actually set in the MCU and Kraven getting an R-rating, which can be good news, but we'll only be able to tell once these movies are out. I really hope Sony finally learned their lesson and Kraven actually succeeds so we can get more good movies, because they're on thin ice right now, they can't afford other flops like DC can, and I'm almost all out of hope for them.

Hot take but Sony's movies would be better if Marvel didn't fuck up the deal they made in 2020. Venom was originally supposed to be set in the MCU. Covid had pushed back Venom 2 and Morbius. Morbius was supposed to come out way before NWH and Venom 2. Sony and Marvel got in back into fighting during that time, and Marvel forced Sony to make their movies a separate universe which had screwed up Sony's plans. Thats why Morbius got pushed back and changed a whole bunch. Had Marvel not fucked with what Sony wanted, then Morbius would have been better with how it was supposed to be (Morbius meeting Vulture in prison, etc.) and we could have seen Venom actually be more involved in NWH

They couldve done a movie where Spider-Man is dead and many people he inspired over the years both good and bad are fighting for the spot as the new Spider-Man Hell adapt Steel Spider and Blood Spider and call the movie Spider-Man: Blood and Steel You have this young budding intelligent kid, who's a bit out of shape, thay was originally inspired by Doc Ock that Spiderman inspired to be a better person. So he works his a$$ off gets in shape, while building his tech and becomes the Steel Spider vigilante On the flispide you have Blood Spider a Government(maybe oscorp) funded experiment who they want to be their corporate Spider Man as a way to control public opinion. Kinda taking from Insomniac Spiderman Prequel Novel Maybe throw in a few of Peters villains that dont need much explanation because there was already a SpiderMan. Have Mattie Franklin a HUGE Spiderman fangirl test Steel Spiders morals and use her powers, together with Steel Spiders tactics to take down and expose Blood Spider. Badabing baddaboom. You have a Universe with a Spider-Man...that isnt regular Peter parker. And dont use Miles so you can separate it from Spiderverse🤷‍♂️. Also use a darker tone. I made most of this up on the spot btw. The SSU is honestly a unique take. It's got a lot of potential, and I already like 2 of their films. But I think their characters alignment should depend on their alignment in the comics. Which so far it already does. Venom and Morbius are occasional anti-heroes and often hunt criminals like predators (normal predators not...). Heck, the 2 have teamed up before. Kraven has literally never saved anybody, so he's a villain in his film. And I hear Silk: Spider Society is on the works. This universe is honestly exciting to think about. People complaining are simply tired of the multiverse.

All they need to do Is to give Justice to Andrew's Spiderman , he the best actor among them all to play spiderman if we exclude the studio Inference and Sony's stupid and unplanned structure models for their upcoming projects and not giving Andrew and Webb to use their proper potential they just did dirty with the cast of tasm franchise like WB has done with Zack Snyder , I still believe That webb has potential to give us the most accurate and Realistic Spiderman and offcourse with Andrew's Strong Performance and Emotional Dept to the character in which Tom Shorty's failed.

I personally think that Sony shouldn't make anything live action related to Spider-Man at all. "Venom" was trash, the sequel was worse, Morbius was even worse than that; I am EXPECTING Sony to fail at this point. They have been fucking things up (not in a good way) ever since Spider-Man 3 & I'm sick of being expected to like this shit just because they have a connection to Spider-Man. Sony should just stick to video games and animation (and that one they should have someone from marvel working alongside them so they don't do anything stupid) ; leave the live action stuff to the MCU.

If El meurto is culturally sensitive like encanto, it could be one of the greatest superhero films. But, it's almost certainly going to be mere appropriation and fighting for fighting sake with so many scene changes and camera shakes to give people siesures.
