Hey Ivo, I'm glad you mentioned about the 3 wheeled skates making it harder to balance due to being higher off the ground, I see a lot of people buying these as their first skates and then having a disappointing experience and that being the main reason. With wheel sizes, I've adopted a discipline over the years that might be useful to others. I'm a slalom inline skater, I like having a rockered set-up, for years I used flat frames where I had to achieve the rocker by putting 76mm wheels on the 1st and 4th axle, then 80mm on the 2nd and 3rd. The wheels would wear down unevenly so as they wore down and "shaved" mm off their diameter, I'd have to use a digital callipers to maintain a 4mm difference between the outside and inside wheels until they were unusable (I like to maximise wheel use, especially for outdoors, not so much for indoor skating). Now I use pre-rockered frames, so the outside and inside wheels have a 4mm difference in height from the ground, but are all 80mm wheels, so it makes it far easier for me to maintain my wheel collection as I only need to buy the same diameter and then monitor the sizes using callipers. To make things more complex, I picked from experience my favourite wheel brands compounds and durometer hardness for indoor (wood/concrete) vs outdoor (rough asphalt etc), and would organise my indoor/outdoor wheel collection using the callipers going from largest to smallest. This is because what started as an 80mm wheel, might still be used by me even after it has worn down to well below 76mm! The important thing to maintain my banana rockered set-up is just to use the callipers to ensure I end up with a 4mm difference between the inside and outside wheels. The other useful habit I adopted, out of experience, economy, and a desire not to throw away wheels while they still have some life in them, was that once my indoor wheels were no longer usable (profile too messed up, or had been "squared off" through slides and therefore not rolling nicely anymore), then those indoor wheels would join the outdoor collection, and then once in the outdoor collection they are used until the rubber separates from the core! The "worst" wheels are the ones I use for slides, as slides really mess up your wheels but are so much fun to do. Thanks Ivo for sharing your expertise through your channel. I have added many of your videos to my RU-vid playlists and admire your commitment to skating and your approach to sharing knowledge. All the best from sunny Australia. :-)

4x90 on a Ninja rockered frame for urban and fun and 3x125 for fitness and speed. Want to try 4x100 flat to replace the 125s - I think that’ll be optimal. 4x110 can follow if necessary. Agree about 4 wheels feeling better, the 3 wheel hype of the last several years has put far too many pronating skaters on setups they can’t really handle. Likewise putting big footed skaters on 243 frames is not a good idea! I started on 4x80 flat (if I ignore the 76mm K2s!). 4x90 is a surprisingly big step up, but it’s awesome for urban.

Hoooooooooly Shit… 🤯🤯🤯 I just got my FR1 325 3/125’s today. I haven’t skated in over 20 yrs. I took em out to the parking lot across from my apt complex about an hour ago. When I tell you I was terrified at least 8 times while rolling through this damn empty parking lot, I’d imagine those of you with extensive experience are shaking your fingers at me. I had all the pads on fortunately and didn’t actually fall. But I felt like a kid trying to relearn to walk. Wow. I did not expect it to be so damn scary. I think I’m gonna have to order a new 4 wheel frame and wheels right away to prevent killing myself. I’ve learned my lesson. I get it. I’ll have to get the 80’s and learn to control, balance etc PROPERLY. ***Do NOT get 125 without extensive experience.*** Take my word for it!! 😭😭😭✌️🥂

These are really good infos especially for beginners, one other thing I suggest to speak about and it’s very underrated, is the wheelbase. People just not have to chose by wheel size, but also wheelbase is an important thing to put in consideration. 80mm skates are probably the most common setup, but if you have a 44 size foot it’ll be unstable front and back and also affect the efficiency of the stride.

There is a frame called VIIRoll where the wheels are in V shape and you can fit basically any size of wheel into it. It has 6 wheels 3-3 in two rows so it's super stable. By default it has 100mm wheels but you can fit 125mm into it, or event bigger if you use spacers. It has a rocker in the middle so it's maneuverable. Why I need the big wheels and the six wheel is not for speed but stability and maneuverability. Where I live the roads are so bad that smaller wheels would stuck in the cracks. The big wheels just run over them. It's not cracks and bad road like what you call bad in in your videos, but really-really bad. You couldn't pull a suitcase on wheels over it. In this environment the big wheels are more stable than the smaller wheels.

I have the PowerSlide Next 3x100 and these are so hard to turn and stop in. I thought it was just my skill level not being good enough. I also have FR Spin 4x80 set up rockered and they are so easy to turn and stop. Thanks for verifying what I was experiencing is normal for the PS Next. Is it ok if I change out the 3x100 and make them 3x90 or even 3x80 and keep the same frame or will that cause problems due to the increase spacing between the wheels?

3x110 is so much fun and you're only 30mm higher. I guess if you question your ability at all you might not want to get them but if you're confident go for it!
@jblaze725
@jblaze725 4 месяца назад
They're actually only 15mm higher than 80mm wheels. 30mm larger diameter total, but the axle is in the middle so only half of that is added to the height. I have PowerSlide Argon Fuzion with the Trinity frame and it puts the wheels much closer to the sole than normal which decreases the amount the 110mm wheels increase ride height even more.

I live in the city center of Cádiz in Spain, we have a floor called adoquín, which is nearly imposible to pass with 80 mm wheels as they get stuck on it, I think that for this kind of floors 110 mm are better is stability vs not skate at all just walk with your skates, what do you think?
