I saw her first on Nora from Queens playing Shu Shu. She stands out and is very funny in that. Comedic acting is sometimes overlooked but you could tell from that she a star
The best part about this film? This film had only 5 VFX artists who didn't learn it professionally but studied VFX through RU-vid. What a fantastic job they've done
A client of mine literally works for the tv shows at Universal Studios here in LA and the editors that work there available for hire don’t even know how to use After Effects. I’m like, there are LITERALLY normal RU-vidrs who use after effects editing their VLOGS and Universal doesn’t even have editors who would know wtf to do with AE if you put it in front of them lol
Nah, Stephanie who plays the daughter has to win, she was for sure the best actor in this movie but everyone acted so amazingly. Hope we see her in more movies
The guy that plays the dad Ke Huy Quan, played the asian kid in Indiana Jones and The Goonies but hadn’t been acting for 20 years bc there weren’t asian roles. To see him thrive in such an incredible movie and play 3 roles flawlessly you wouldn’t have ever known! Movies like this mean so much now that asian people can be given a chance to shine. In response to a podcast question of “where did you go? Where have you been?” Ke Huy Quan responds teary eyed: “i’ve been here the whole time” 🥹
and you know what movie inspired him to get back into acting? Crazy Rich Asians. he saw the success of that film and he realized that it was possible. this is why representation is so important and why we need to show studios that we *want* to see more films like this with more diverse actors in lead roles.
noo u made me cry when u cried. multiverse be damned our relationships with our parents do be hitting the hardest. so much closeness and distance at the same time. this movie really said a family is a universe uncaring and cold but also potentially so so so beautiful.
I LITERALLY CRIED! my family came to the US from Liberia when i was 6. I am too familiar with how joy felt. but this movie...made me feel things i haven't felt in a while
I love the moment at the end where she hears all the other multiverses. She’s finally having to face her financial situation regards her taxes, and the other universes (the other “what if” lives) creeping in are what we experience when faced with difficulty. We overthink. Panic creeps in. We think: “Why can’t my life be different. Like this. Or this.” (What the multiverse represents). But then Evelyn takes a deep breath, clears her mind, then says to herself: “Breathe. You are fine. You can get through this. Everything will be okay.”
Nah she's just being distracted by it, the concept of it was based on ADHD. The ending is basically showing her put into action the realization that her life, her here and now, is what really matters, and everything else is just a distraction
@@kilianalexander2736 You both are right. She's being distracted, but part of that distraction is all of life's possibilities, its what-ifs. It's a blessing she's come to her realization but it's also a bit of a curse, like everything it's complicated
As a mother of an adult daughter with whom I struggle with our relationship, I felt this movie on so many levels. It really touched me in such a personal way. Definitely my favorite movie of the year.
This movie is top-tier. Even friends of mine who are highly critical of films unanimously said it was one of the best they'd ever seen. So excited to see your reaction (and then Zzavid's hopefully later lol) :)
Love that you shouted out Minari, Parasite, and Train to Busan in reference to phenomenal international films (well, except for Minari which is an American film with a partly native Korean cast). Korean movies keep me going thru these rough times 😭
Train to Busan is so overrated and contrived. Also, if a real pregnant woman went though all that the pregnant character did, she definitely would have suffered a miscarriage. And what kind of girl would leave the safe space for a boy she barely knows? Very contrived
@@Ri57490 Your comment seems contrived and quite self-important and oh yes, contrived. But in all seriousness... you seem to be unaware that human beings have a tendency to behave differently from one another, hence why films vary so much. Also, you might want to stay away from cinema as a whole, because you'll be quite disappointed to learn that many things that should happen, don't, and many things that would never happen, do happen in the *magical* world of film. Take care.
If Ke Huy Quan, Michelle Yeoh, and Stephanie Hsu don't at the very least get Oscar nominations for their performances, I'm going to be furious. They all deserve them.
Chuuzus you don't know the way you're blessing us right now. I saw this 3 times in the theater I cannot wait to see what you think. I saw it first with my immigrant father (MISTAKE) and then got to watch it 2 more times alone after an edible. I was REBORNN.
A24 is a relatively new studio. They started out as a distributor, and only have done a small amount of fully produced films where they were on from inception. In the beginning a film would be complete and they would come on and help distribute, now with films like Hereditary, Eighth Grade, Moonlight, they are there at the start to help create them and distribute. The cool thing is, even their old solely distributed films still have a feel of their self produced films. The thread that holds them all together is all the films, regardless of genre is that all of them deal with the human experience.
ouuu I know this one is going to be wild ride honey! haven't seen it yet but A24 knows how to traumatize, confuse and excite their audience all at once lol so based on the title alone I'm sure they didn't disappoint~
this video dropped right after i finished watching the movie. i was sobbing, my head and heart were empty. it felt like i had gone through a once in a lifetime experience. so i open youtube to watch happy videos of capybaras having fun and your video is the first thing that pops up on my recommendation page :')
I saw it twice in theaters! I was dying laughing one minute and then sobbing the next 😭 such a beautiful film!! LOVED your reaction it made me cry again 😂
The fact that ZZAVID and Chuuzus posted their reaction vids simultaneously is just amazing to me. I heard over and over again that this particular movie is a BIG masterpiece. I’m glad you decided to pick this up, Chuuzus :) It seems like you really do care about movies a whole lot. I guess we’re kinda similar in some way. Growing up, there’s not one day I wouldn’t be watching any movies of any genre (prolly except horror/gore, I just don’t vibe with it). Anyway, cheers to more indie movie reactions!
This is cinema. It's brilliant, beautiful, moving, thought provoking and visually stunning. Without question one if the best films I have ever seen in my life. Aside from the brilliant cinematography, fight scenes, VFX, and editing the film has a truly beautiful and powerful message at it's core. The philosophical idea of finding meaning in the absurdity of meaninglessness and choosing to be happy and love each other because if nothing matters than anything can matter. Just a fantastic film that should sweep the Oscars.
Absolutely obsessed with this film since I first saw it. It’s impossible to watch it without succumbing to the mess of tears and laughter. Your reactions to it were really fun :)
This movie attacks me as someone with ADHD and a daughter who has a kinda complicated relationship with her brown mom. Literally this movie feels very ADHD and how Evelyn moves around universes is how my brain works.
I watched this with my boyfriend the other night and I told him Evelyn has ADHD based on my understanding of it as a result of reading folks' stories about their diagnosis. Thanks for sharing.
@@noooname I heard that he wanted to make Evelyn as a character with undiagnosed ADHD and while researching realized that _he_ had undiagnosed ADHD. Though take that with a grain of salt because I found that tidbit out in various comment sections.
I’m sooo excited to watch this video!! I’ve been bingeing all your videos for the past few days and I love your personality ❤️ Also this movie EATS-I’ve seen it twice already and sobbed both times 💀 the daughter’s outfit changes tho….SHE ATE DOWN EDIT: I’ve watched it four times now and BITTTCHHHHHH-I always start crying at Evelyn finally seeing Waymond for the wonderful man that he is-he so beautifully embodies positive nihilism; what a treasure 😭 And when Joy begs Evelyn to just let her go….I BECOME A WATERFALL
Okay I’ve seen it three times now and am gonna watch it for the last time in theaters next week because of the re-release in theaters 🤍 go watch it y’all!! It’s limited but you’ll love it !!
I just watched this and was delighted your reaction came out right after! This film made me feel so many things, there is nothing like it... I walked out of the theatre completely confused. We are all confused in life doing our best. Thanks for reacting to this life altering film!
The way I GASPED when I saw this was the movie this week????? I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH! And noooobody around me as seen it!! Thanks bestie it was fun rewatching the movie with you!!
Same reaction! It has so much in it, sadness, sweetness, comedy, absurdity, everything! Best movie of the year so far, and it will be hard to be beat! (The only thing I think could maybe come close is Disappointment Blvd because Ari Aster is incredible) but as it stands, give it best picture, best director, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress (Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis) best visual effects, best editing, best original screenplay, etc. “So, even though you’ve broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say.. in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.” 😭😭😭
My boyfriend and i went to watch this last night and I came here immediately to see your reaction. This movie is truly masterpiece. Visually stunning and the story was just top notch. Your reaction is basically how i left the theater. 'What did I just watch?!' Truly one of the best movies I've seen in years
This movie reminded me of Lady Bird so much, because of the mom and daughter's relationship. They come to an understanding and it's so beautiful. Also, the visuals left me breathless and it was an otherworldly experience. I laughed and cried so hard.
Lol, youre the only one so far who mentions she is still traveling thru universes as at the end since she is looking spaced and confused in the IRS office. I loved this movie!
Did you notice that when Jobu Topaki was with Alpha Waymond in the van, he was holding the urn containing Alpha Evelyn’s ashes? He wanted to hold her one last time before he died.
So what did you think of the movie? Did you like it? 🤣🤣 I totally agree, this is how you do multiverse. It looks surreal! Fantastic reaction as always. 🥰
In terms of being gay in America, my family was extremely religious (although parents were divorced), and it wasn't easy for them to accept. Mom didn't think homosexuality was real at first but still loved me. Dad, though, acted like he was happy, but I could tell he wasn't. Mom eventually came around, but dad still keeps a distance.
Waiting for this to be released here in UK. I have been telling everyone to go watch it when it comes out. I have not been to the cinema in years so it will be the only movie I will go to the cinema for.
Seeing this in the theater was an amazing out of body experience in the best way possible. It moved me and made me laugh at the same time. It definitely deserves all of the love and praise it’s been getting 🥲
Oh gosh, after I’ve watched this movie I was just craving seeing other peoples reactions to it. And wow, you’re reaction is absolutely everything! I’m so glad that you relate to the themes as much as I did, absolutely amazing commentary!
I love how they played with the screen ratio. It was tasteful and very playful. It is the most unique movie made in this decade. I've watched a lot of movies and this is one that I've never seen quite anything like it. Probably the best A24 has made and the best this recent years. It's so good. Everything had a connection, no filter universes or loopholes that I can see. I always thought that the best sci-fi is when they do things simply yet effective. No gaudy tech or big ostentatious equipment that's just for show. This is all on the plot (and the superb editing and score) and it's progression as well as the meaning it brings to the viewers. I hope it wins a lot of awards and gets an oscar.
Thank you so much for making the video for this beautiful movie Chuuzus!!! I love you reaction and yes this is the movie of the year so far for me too!!!!
Literally screamed when I saw this in my subscriptions. I wish I could go back and watch this movie for the first time again it was exhilarating. This move made me laugh, cry, feel every emotion there is. The acting is top notch, the visuals are stunning, the damn costume designs are out of this world (literally lol). This movie deserves all the recognition it gets. Also your laugh is so great it makes me laugh every time, I love your reactions.
I love this movie! You should watch the other feature films from the DANIELS, they're both amazing for different reasons. Swiss Army Man (2016) and The Death of Dick Long (2019).
i second that, especially swiss army man.... always a joy to see someone discovering what swiss army man is about, and then what swiss army man is Really about
Saw this movie twice in theaters. Truly magical experience each time. Glad you are covering this! I do encourage everyone if you can see it in theaters so more great stories like this are made!!!!! At least your reaction may ignite some curiousity in others to see this! eta: My whole theater clapped at the end credits on my first viewing!
Watching this video in bed as my comfort 🥺 because I overslept for my Saturday school lessons and my mom is just cackling as if it isn't my last year of high school 😂😭😭😭😭😭
I remember watching this and being filled with this elation afterward like I felt as if something changed for the better in my life. I couldn't believe that a movie could do this to me, and then I thought about what this means for movies. I felt like this might have been the peak of movie watching experiences in my life. I couldn't imagine another movie being made that was better than this and yet I can't imagined being satisfied watching anything lesser now that I've seen this movie. I kind of felt like I'd done DMT and had that moment of catharsis after seeing God and knowing the meaning of life and the true shape of reality then being dumped back into my boring reality to question everything.
Chuuzus!!! I loved your reactions!!! I am you & you are me with these your reactions 😂🥹🥹 The part when you said you’re going to talk about this movie always, and watch it over and over again is exactly what I said when I watched it the first time! Related so much to the movie! Spectacular movie!! I’m waiting for it to get nominated & win Best picture because WOW!!
Man, I rarely re-watch movies, but this one I've seen multiple times and I just cry more and more. The way the movie take you on a journey along with Evelyn when at the start she sees her husband as annoying and bothersome when he's actually the answer to the emptiness Jobu Tupaki and her are feeling. If nothing matters than you can decide what does. Joy doesn't just happen to you, you can be miserable in the most lavish gowns on the red carpet. You have to choose joy and in that way help other people choose joy as well. And at the same time, along with these profound messages, it's also about generational trauma, parent-kid communication struggles, barriers in the immigration families. I love the movie, the concept, the cast, the effects, the behind-the-scenes. The only thing about this movie I don't like is that Stephanie Hsu got robbed of an Oscar, imo she was so much more impressive than Jamie Lee here.
I just watched this for the first time last night. Had a date night with my s/o and set up the projector in the bedroom. It was absolutely amazing! My favorite movie is Eternal sunshine for the spotless mind and this movie gave me that same feeling. It was trippy but still beautiful and there was action. It was everything all at once !
#29:45 goosebumps listening to your reaction (I’ve seen enough reactions to just be able to listen & know what is going on) What a thrill to re-live watching this movie for the first time with you ❤
I'm back to being early to videos! CHUUZUS I have suffered with adulting these weeks, but I will have enjoyment watching your videos!! Im glad to see you've grow rapidly i want you to have a 100k so bad
I can totally relate to the fat shaming my family was constantly telling me that I was too fat. And I think now subconsciously I just don't eat that much cuz I'm afraid to get fat.
