7:50 Nope, totally agree. I've only just started going on cruises and its always P&O cause its cheap, sadly the P&O cruises are 98% English which somewhat ruins it. We had a couple in the Glass House next to us last night who never said thank you to anything the waiter did for them, it was like they thought they were above him and because they'd paid for the cruise, weren't required to be polite. I just can't understand people that are like that, its just wrong.
My mum and I were on Azura 16 night Caribbean cruise a few years back. Sitting next to an English couple in the restaurant and this man was so rude to the waiter the whole time. He was playing the big 'I am' but was totally embarrassing himself. I couldn't help myself but started saying in my quiet outside voice (🙂) how great the waiters were and how some people were so rude and undignified. His wife looked mortified. I think she had words and he soon shut up. It made my blood boil. The staff are brilliant and deserve much more.
Interesting VLOG. Totally agree about the sun bed situation. We’ve seen it a lot on other cruises. It’s selfish, ignorant, entitled behaviour. I guess they’d be quick enough to complain about other people doing it. My view, it should be made clear to all passengers that crew will remove towels and personal possessions if they are left unattended for 30 mins. Passengers… Large cruise ships are a microcosm of society. You get the good, the bad and the ugly. Sadly, we all remember the ugly. Our last cruise was on Iona. We had a woman shamelessly push in at the front of a queue because she was ‘old’. We’re no spring chickens but would never use physical age (we’re young at heart) as an excuse for poor behaviour. Overall, sounds like you had a great cruise and, as you say, these gripes are first world problems. Keep having fun!
Will be new to P&O next year and we can never see how we would use the package to the full value, you are right! Especially as you can still take spirits aboard those cruise line.
I just got back from going on Arvia. It was a great experience. I'm the same as you, I already miss the crew! Erwin in the Clubhouse was hilarious with a great personality. I will say, one of the only things I didn't like about the cruise was the booking system. We got on on the first day and everything was booked for the two weeks. It was kind of our fault because we should have booked earlier but we didn't really want to pre book everything 2 weeks before because we don't know how we'd feel on the day!

We fly in and out to Barbados 🇧🇧 in January 2025 we booked last night our first cruise, we treat ourselves to a suite with butler and we can't wait. Looks amazing.
I totally agree about your points especially how amazing the crew were they are just fantastic and all your other points we experienced several rude passengers, although one difference on our cruise (transatlantic back to UK) was they were removing stuff from unused sunbeds and putting notes out never had a problem getting a sunbed any day
There's square hun but only just maybe 6-9 on each deck look at the layout plan cos i went with select and choose a square one rather than the thin long ones.❤
I always feel for the crew in all the ships as you know they do long hours for poor pay. On Britannia that we've just gotten off, can't remember his name, our room steward did everything. I hoping he was the first in the room when we left as I left him a tip. But the shower drain was slow draining and the shower head washer was leaking and shower head was really old. We never said anything but got a knock on the door the next day and a repair guy came to fix the shower drain and he'd already been in earlier and replaced the shower head. Turns out it must of been are steward who'd reported it. And when we asked for ice, he gave us ice every day.
Hi guys, just got back (3/12/23) from our cruise in the Caribbean on arvia. It was our first cruise but me and the missus absolutely loved it. The crew are fantastic, the ship is beautiful the food was great. Love the arvia,,,my only complaint is the entertainment in headliners was very poor. But what am amazing time I had, we will definitely be going on another one with p&o. Going to give the cruise 10 out of 10 because the massive pluses totally outgun the poor entertainment in headliners.
Enjoyed the Caribbean cruise on Arvia in March 2024. Gatwick to Barbados, 16 nights on the ship and back to Southampton. The 9.5 hrs flight from Gatwick was well organised, but the transport from the airport in Barbados to the port was horrendous. Rickety, rusty old minibuses, all windows open in 36C heat dirt and dust from the road blowing into your eyes, mouth, hair for 45 mins. Traffic horrendous, and the entire embarkation process at the port enough to bring anyone to tears. Then the disembarking in Southampton, another lamentable health destroying experience. Arvia itself was quite a pleasant experience with skeleton staff working very hard. I'm not sure if we ever want to cruise with P & O again ????
@DannyDalimore P & O knows exactly what's going on in Barbados with the grotty, dangerous airport/port transportation as l have seen other people talking/complaining about it on RU-vid before. 😬
I was on the same flight as you and totally agree with you on all your points. I have never people watched as much as on this cruise how rude and disrespectful some people are. But the staff where so good food was loads better than it was on Britannia. Enjoyed your blog just wish I was still on the ship
You are absolutely spot on regarding the crew and passengers, the Crew are just amazing and they work so hard for so little money, they work 11 hours per day 7 days a week (with little time off) some crew told us what they earn and its about £4 per hour and some passengers are just damned rude. One day in the Horizon an elderly gentleman was kicking off with one of the crew because the chamomile tea bags weren't in the chamomile tea bag drawer, my husband had to stop me from getting involved but I was absolutely disgusted and ashamed. x
Also I must agree the time of year. I find passengers are nicer if you go in the summer. I went on a cruise in September once. Never again! The passengers were something from absolute Hell.
We had to get up at 6am and stay there in order to get a sun bed in sea days. Towels put on 5 beds and only three people turned up at lunch time snd sat in middle so no one would sit it lay next to them!! On Azura they take towels off after half hour and this should be on all cruise ships
As an older cruiser 🙈 having cruised for twenty plus years (mainly on British ships) we were on Arvia’s very first sailing from Southampton at Christmas (it wasn’t supposed to be the inaugural cruise) & as a result I was (to say the very least) extremely disappointed with P&O !! Things were just not ready for that cruise & I reckon that the management knew this & it came down to the captain to publicly announce an apology along with extra on board spend to each & every one of us to apologize, but as a result it still leaves a bit of a sour memory about sailing with P&O and nothing to do with all the hard working crew (they did their very best ) I could go on & on but needless to say we’ve booked our summer cruise with Princess then an autumn one with Marella 😢
Agree with most of what you said, wasn’t impressed by the food except in the quays. Trying to get a sun bed was terrible many ignorant people. We sailed back to Southampton from the Caribbean people moaning it was getting cooler lol. Getting on a coach was shocking we had to wait ages till they got extra coaches bit disorganised, this was my first P&O cruise I’m afraid I’ll be back with Cunard in September. But never say never at the right price I’d do it again I’m sure. Enjoyed your vlogs x
Hey Danny. I see you have been on Arvia recently. Can you advise me on what to expect with a new app based booking system that I am hearing about please? Dad will be doing a northern Med cruise in Sept and is a little concerned about it, as he can only just manage to make a phone call 😀 I understand that you have to book for the evening shows? And all the restaurants? Can we book the same seat/table on board with the restaurant manager (like previous cruises he has been on) or can I go online 2 weeks before the cruise (when the app is accessible) and book everything for the 2 weeks? Wife just got back and said it was awful, food was terrible, drinks seemed watered down!, expensive 3.50 for a small bottle of coke, people stillnput towels in sunbeds(she just threw them away😂) and some of the passengers were absolute scumbags, she said it was worse than butlins avoid at all cost!!!
I totally get what you say about passengers!! My husband and I just came back from Rhapsody of the Seas In Caribbean. The ship embarked from Barbados and oh my god did we notice a difference from leaving In Southampton like we usually do! I’d say only 1% of the passengers were white and we’ve never been in such a relaxed friendly cruise ever and this was our 11th. No privileged rude white people moaning for stupid reasons and everyone was there to have fun and just happy to be on holiday. Wish all cruises were that enjoyable 😊
I agree too .. did the med from barcelona on wonder of the seas with totally civilised humans .. did the fjords from Southampton on anthem and was like benefit britain on tour
Bad passengers going OTT at the crew is bullying. No two ways about it. If you behave like that to someone in the street, you'll either get the same grief back or even a smack in the mouth.
