I wear a lot of linen, because it’s beautiful to wear, and it’s beautiful to sew with. However, while linen is new, it’s hard to work with. The best thing you can do with your made-garment is to wash it a few times, because the more you wash it and wear it, the linen softens and relaxes. Also use spray-starch to help with ironing. The next time you make something with linen, pre-wash the fabric a few times. Or pre-wash it, dry it, iron it with starch, sew your garment, then wash it again, dry it, iron with starch. Usually by your 3rd or 4th wash and wear, it’s great.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your tips! This is hugely helpful! I did prewash it once and then washed once after making, but I was not aware that multiple washes would soften it up. Very excited to try these tips. I won't give up on using 100% linen now! :)
We just got ours down, we put Happy Birthday on it for our youngest son❤ Your doing fabulous, my Grandma was a seamstress for many years , she always said practice is one heck of a teacher , the more you sew the more you learn❤ I think everything you showed was beautiful and flip flipping is fun and creative. So in my opinion it counts 😊
Aw that’s so sweet I’m sure he loved that! Thank you so much! I absolutely agree! I like that rule if it’s fun and creative it should count. I’m going to go with that next year for sure. Thank you so much for watching! 😊❤️❤️
My thoughts on. 1. Linen? Just embrace the wrinkles as "texture" And 2. I use poly blends and don't consider it a problem because I wear my clothes until they absolutely fall apart and then plan on stuffing a poof with the fabric. The point is sustainability?? Right?
Such pretty makes! I’ve been thinking about making a Lydia Naomi dress for spring, and now I have to after seeing all of yours! I also like to use a lot of linen and cotton, but never end up wearing things I have to iron every time. Have you tried wrinkle spray? It’s MAGIC. I like to spray it on my wrinkled linen pieces because it relaxes the wrinkles without getting rid of that soft, imperfect linen texture. It won’t give you that crisp linen look, but if you prefer the breezy/lived in look like me, it’s perfect! Subscribed and looking forward to seeing what you make this year!
Thank you! :) Absolutely do it, you can never go wrong with one of her patterns. I will now be adding "wrinkle spray" to my Amazon Cart haha, thank you for the tip! Thanks so much for watching & will look forward to seeing what you make as well!
I’m from Puerto Rico and officially we have the longest Christmas in the world. We start early November and finish late January. I put my decor the first week of Nov and take it down the last weeks of January. The people who dont like Halloween start on October with their Christmas decor. I understand the differences in cultures… but when I hear people taking down their decor before January it kinda offends me 😂😂 thank God I dont live in USA, because A LOT of people would have gotten my middle finger.
Honestly I’m 1000% behind this. I’m all for Christmas and would love for it to last way longer. I have officially been encouraged to keep my decorations up as long as I like! 👏🏼😊❤️
By old traditions (as I was told, but it could be local thing), the Christmas tree was decorated on Christmas Eve and taken down on Three Kings (January 6th). So, still having a Christmas tree on January 4th is a traditionally normal thing to do 😁
Haha well they’re cozy there now, it would be mean to take them down now. 😜 I’m all about the Christmas decorations so honestly very happy that this whole comments section is team “leave it up however long you like”. 😊❤️
i just took my christmas decorations down yesterday. oops i can’t wait to see your *what you made in 2024* video bc i was obsessed with every single piece
Haha I ended up taking mine down incredibly slowly in stages, because I just wasn't ready to see them go so no judgement here! ;) Thank you so much! Just posted a new video today of making some wardrobe essentials. :) Thanks for watching!
All your creations are sew super inspiring! I love when you let your imagination lead, those makes are really incredible! 🎄My tree is still up! We leave it up until the needles start falling off. I call it ‘Merry January’, it brightens an otherwise dark time of year!
I actively avoid altering existing garments for the same reason as you: I don't want to ruin a garment that someone else could wear. My only exception is if it's a garment I made myself; in those instances, I'm more confident of getting a good outcome. So glad I found your channel. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
Yes exactly, I'm glad I'm not alone haha. I'm going to try to get more brave about it this year, but I think it's better to be a little too cautious about altering completed pieces than not enough. :) Thanks so much for watching and hope to see you around here again!
I just found your channel earlier this week and i am soo inspired to get it going on my sewing journey... Sewing is the one craft Id like to do but is sooo hard for me to start because everything is so intimidating 😭 The fact youve made all of this within 2 years of your sewing journey is so amazing!!! Im obsessed with the green birthday dress, you did great!
I’m so glad you found me! I really can’t recommend giving sewing a chance more. In my experience it is so much simpler than it seems and 10x more rewarding. 😊❤️ You can absolutely do it, just make sure to start with a beginner friendly pattern. Thank you, thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Great video, I love everything you've made! I especially love the black and white matching graduation dress pattern and now I definitely want to check it out!
Ugh I know, so disappointing! More motivation to do more research on fabric content haha. Thanks so much! I hope all your fabrics are snag free this year ;)
Hi Cait Wow ! You have made some great things. Here are some things to help you. Understitching around the neckline might help …. Fabulous effort. Have fun
I still haven't done a true thrift flip of a clothing item because I am way more intimidated to do that than to make something from scratch! I think it's because the amount of fabric is so limited
Beautiful work! New subscriber and first time watching. Any type of sewing you do will be interesting to follow including remodeling and gifts for others. Sometimes you can find an item at the store made of great material. It may be to big or to small but if it has enough for what you intend to do with it, go for it. An out of date style most likely won't be bought by others. This week I am working on making a skirt out of a thrifted dress. The first time I tried filling in a slit that was too long, I tried to be to fancy by sewing sun ray pleats in the opening. It didn't work so I cut them out and replaced it with a simpler design. It looks good now. So don't be afraid to try a second time if the first time seems like a mistake. In everything we do we learn more. I consider it money well spent in learning as well as accomplishing. I really enjoyed your sewing review and I look forward to watching more! Thank you!
Thank you! This is great encouragement, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I hope your skirt from the thrifted dress turned out how you hoped, sounds like a fun project! Thanks so much for watching & happy sewing! 😊❤️
Aw thank you! So glad you found me :) It's sewww addicting you're going to love it, excited for you! P.S. launching a video tomorrow morning going over 10 beginner friendly sewing patterns that you might like. ;)
Great video. ❤I do sometimes feel worried about altering ready made outfits because if it doesn’t turn out I wasted a garment that someone else could have worn. Keep up the fun sewing 😊
Thank you, it looks pretty but I do not recommend it haha. That's the one that I plan to remake because the fabric snags insanely easily. I don't 100% remember the content of the fabric but it is a very soft stretch blend from JoAnne's. Sorry I don't have better info to report on that one! Thanks so much for watching! :)
