Some trivia: episode 17 is titled “a Hundred Nights and a Thousand Skies", which is a translated of Senku (Thousand skies) and Byakuya (hundred nights). And their last name, Ishigami, is “stone god.” Yes, Byakuya isn’t Senku’s biological father, hair aside. I dunno if they officially said why, but the popular fan theory is that they wanted to avoid any implications of incest between Senkuu and the villagers who descended from Byakuya. Though 3000 years is probably enough of a gap to ignore that, lol. The Roman Empire was only 2000-ish years ago, and, like, would I consider an ancient Roman to be a close family member? Probably not. I think the villagers descended from Byakuya/Lillian, Shamil/Connie, and the two married Russian scientists.

I think the implication is all the astronauts had kids and they all eventually grew up and had kids with each other. I haven't caught up with the manga but I feel like the adoption is going to be a reveal at the end.

@@TGLReacts It definetly wasn't tho, because first of the implication is still there because they went from 6 to over 50 people atleast and that over 3700 years - do you really think that they didn't at some point? and second, the anime and manga even adressed it basically right after and stated it is so many generation appart it really doesn't matter. the whole adoption thing was more because they wanted to show he doesn't just care and did so much for senku just because he is his son, but because he just really does care and is a good person.

I've always interpreted as Shamil/Connie and the married scientists were the only ones to have kids but I didn't count them so maybe all 3 pairs had kids

Rather, I'm sure it's easier to just say both their parents died in an accident when he was young so je was adopted by his dad's friend, than write a whole backstory about his mom and stuff, while at the same time it makes it his relationship with his adoptive father even more meaningful.

To answer the question about the dub VAs, no they used the same singer. I believe the singer who sang these songs was a British theatre actress. Also the dub VA for Byakuya actually teared up at his final speech in the end.

Some notes and clarification to your comments and questions: 1) Byakuya and Lillian did have children. If you pay attention to the children's scenes, there are faces that're NOT Darya and Yakov's nor Shamil and Connie's children. (MINOR SPOILERS not important to the main plot-->) The children that ran in front of Byakuya's grave are Byakuya & co's GRANDCHILDREN, not their children. Byakuya died of old age. His and his friends' children would've already grown up by the time he's buried. So no, the children didn't have to survive completely on their own, though I imagine being a single dad to 6-ish(?) kids must be tough for Byakuya. 2) If Kohaku likes Senku, she WON'T be concerned about them being related, considering how the village came to be. At least the earlier generations must have some incest involved (even if carefully managed so it's between the most distant cousins possible) because there are just not enough people around. Considering how harsh nature can be, it is likely that plagues or disasters have reduced their numbers somewhere in the middle multiple times too, so inbreeding can't be completely abandoned if they want to keep continuing the Hundred Tales. Kohaku's likely just dumbfounded that the founder of her village, THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO, is Senkuu's DAD, and that her entire village are technically Senku's DESCENDANTS. It would be mind-boggling if you found out your same-aged friend is technically your ancestor. (I get that you guys ship them, and I won't discourage you, but canonically Senku and Kohaku are just platonic. Kohaku won't offer herself up to be Chrome's wife if she likes Senku, and Senku's only love is science, let's be real XDD) 3) The translation at the grave scene was a bit off. What Ruri actually said is "It is said that this gravestone is brought here (from the original island) on behalf of Byakuya-sama and the founders." (I'll prob edit more info later cuz I'm sleepy and can't process too well right now XD) Edit: 4) Tsukasa isn't against "adults" by definition, but the specific adults with "vested interests". It's just that since he doesn't know everyone personally, he must be indiscriminate to people above a certain age (

Since there are 3700 years inbetween and most likely for the entire time "survival of the fittest" was a constant underlying reality, I suspect that many of the people with more severe gene defects didnt make it far and hence they also couldnt procreate that much. That means descendants with bad genes slowly died out.... At the same time 3700 years is a long time and conains many generations in them, enough for a variety of permutations as well as "good mutations".

Actually there is second part of last dr stone manga chapter 232. Spoil... Kohaku and Senku are together. Kohaku even teased Senku why he isn't blushing when she hugged him. Sorry for my garbage English.

@@terra4822 Spoilers They aren't. There is no confirmation of their relationship. Although Kohaku's wording can be questionable because she said "partners", right from the very beginning of her appearance, Kohaku made Senku misunderstood that she liked him. She's always liked using ambiguous wording. Their relationship was never properly build up, and considering Inagaki's track record with writing romance, he will definitely insert proper build up if they were intended to be together. There are also concrete proof that Senku remains single by the end of the series: 1) Luna was still trying to win Senku's heart at the wedding chapter. That means Senku was still single at that time (she won't try to get in between him and his lover if he had one). The special chapter was on TaiYuzu's honeymoon--only a short time after their wedding--so Senku and Kohaku's relationship status can't possibly change that quickly. 2) There is a conversation between Inagaki-sensei, Kurare-sensei, and Ichioka-sensei (dcst's science consultants) at "Chou arienai rika no jiken" day 2. Ichioka-sensei jokingly asked who is the heroine (female lead who will end up with the protagonist) of the story because Kohaku isn't the one, straight to Inagaki-sensei himself, and Inagaki-sensei didn't deny it, although he also didn't give any clear confirmation till the end. Ichioka-sensei jokingly said that "isn't Gen the only one that fit?", although Inagaki-sensei immediately said "but he is a man". They even discussed Ruri and Luna because they were actually in a relationship with Senku for a time, but Inagaki-sensei confirmed that Senku never saw them romantically. In the end the moderator of the show said that the audience should decide themselves who is the heroine. 3) Dr. Stone's official fanbook, released after the extra chapter, mentioned couples that came to be after the ending. Amaryllis got married to Soyuz, and Kinro dated Kirisame, but SenKoha are both still single. Neither were they mentioned as each other's closest people (Senku's closest people are Xeno and Byakuya, and Kohaku's closest people are Ruri and Kinro) Senku's true love remains science and humanity till the end, and that feels like the only right ending for the way his character has been written throughout the whole story.

You guys seem a little confused by the family lines so let me try to explain as a Biology graduate. No cheating happened,(at least in that first generation) but basically every single person in Ishigami village is a descendent of every single member of the crew. Every couple had multiple kids but those kids had to marry the children of the other couples and have kids of their own, over the course of hundreds of generations, that means every family bred with every other family. So every person alive in the village today could trace their ancestry back to all 8 members of the crew. Similar to how every person alive today is a descendent of Genghis Khan. A lot of inbreeding must have happened as well with a starting population that small, eight people is quite a population bottleneck but it's helped somewhat by the crew being of somewhat diverse ethnicities. Though yeah while I assume they chose to make Senku adopted to avoid people calling it incest if Senku ended up romantically paired with one of the villagers, but after 3000 years and so many generations... well the genetics are complicated but Senku would probably be less closely related to any of the villagers than any of them would be to every other member of the village. Hopefully I was able to convey that in a way that makes sense. It's a detail I really like, hair and eye color is something usually taken for granted in anime but the villiage having a mix of European and Asian traits is actually foreshadowing this very reveal.

Small correction - Not every person alive is a descendant of Genghis Khan, that's a vast overexageration and a bit of a modern myth. 1 in 200 people in the region that was studied shared a common male ancestor, which they assumed would have to be Genghis Khan. The estimate is roughly 16 million desccendants, which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. He probably has a higher concentration of descendants in Asia, given that's where the Mongol Hordes were most active, but especially places like Southern Africa or the Americas would not have any trace of him.

Guys, the village has existed for 3,000 years - it's practically impossible/pointless to tell who had who from the first "generation". There's a reason why after such a long time the village still only has a few people, I'm sure thousands of years of inbreeding leads to higher infant mortality rates. If they wanted as much genetic diversity as possible, there would have been a lot of uh...wife swapping.

The Soyuz team consisted of 3 Russians (ethnically Slavic), 1 (albino?) Japanese, and 2 Americans (one is Jewish probably and the other very likely has English roots). Over 3700 years there must have been a thorough mixing. Very likely that quite often cousins have married. If we assume a random mixing of their descendants (1st degree incest excluded) we should see a somewhat similar representation of hair colors in Ishigami village compared to their Soyuz team ancestors). Mostly blonde with blue eyes, and a few brown haired with brown eyes. But it could also be mostly blonde with brown eyes, because brown eyes and hair color are demoniant over blue eyes and blonde hair. Oh wait didnt one of the guards hav wite hair as well? Jasper! I guess he is evidently a descendant of Byakuya! EDIT: I just went through all village characters, mostly blonde people👌 but we see a great mix of hair color and eye color, which makes sense. Oh and this would also explain why Kinro and Ginro are brothers even though they look nothing alike.

So, a bit of an interesting fact. When the episodes/chapters dropped regarding the astronauts/doctors and everyone dying from disease, there was a huge uproar on the internet and anime forums. That this was somehow the very definition of ridiculous asspulls and being completely unbelievable. It got so bad that numerous people wrote 1/10 and 2/10 reviews specifically pointing to episodes 16 and 17 (especially 17). So many people couldn't wrap their heads about how trained astronauts and scientists couldn't do exactly what Senku has done thus far, including creating the sulfa drug.

guys... it's been 3000 years, there's no point asking who's related to who, the family trees are all mixed, after some generations it's not that a big of a deal anymore, like i'm sure a lot of people around the world have some ancestor in common and have no idea, like imagine being married for years and with kids and some day you discover this somehow like "oh we had the same great great grandad" granted that starting a population with only 6 people there's been some inbreeding between cousins for sure and the kids at the end of the flashback didn't have to survive on their own, they were the grankids, their parents were still around

So, from what I know of genetics, you need a lot of genetic diversity to keep the gene pool clean. This is why incest is a problem because the same genes start to recycle especially recessive traits. I believe this is why so many of the villagers are blond (four of the founders had blond hair so this recessive gene was passed down at a greater rate). Poor vision would be another traits passed down. With only three founding families, there would have had to be some incest at some point; it would have been unavoidable. I don't know if the show is realistic with the number of founding families. It helps that at least 5 of the founders are from different countries (for genetic diversity) but it still isn't much. With that in mind, each couple would have had to have children and as many children as possible. To get the most genetic mileage possible, we'd want to postpone any incest for as long as possible. Realistically, if they wanted the most genetic diversity possible, each of the men would have had to have children with each of the women. Then each of the children would have to have multiple kids with whoever isn't related. Once they get to a point when incest is necessary, it would be best for them to reproduce with their most distant relative possible. Each generation would have to have enough kids for each kid to find a partner. Each pair would also have to be male-female because everyone would need to have kids. This is pretty complicated and hard to think out in my head. If some people had survived turning to stone this would be less of a problem. According to google, 50 people are needed to avoid incest. With just three families that have only two kids, there would be incest pretty quickly. This is why it would have been best for each man to conceive a few children with each of the women. This would also have to be cross-generational with older generation having kids with anyone from the younger gen who isn't a blood relative. I'm not sure about that though.

6 Astronauts, 3 pairs, dozens of kids, there would've been a lot of cousin marriages for sure, but luckily the original 6 were from different countries so more genetic variety. That said, some level of incest would explain a couple of the traits the villagers have.

For a series that's usually really good about being scientifically accurate, this episode revealed two pretty big and noticeable issues. The first is the incest problem. Byakuya and Lillian, Shamil and Connie, and Darya and Yakov were the three pairs whose descendants would become Ishigami Village. To be fair, none of them were biologically related to each other, and being astronauts, all of them would've been at the peak of physical health, so they'd all be unlikely to have any significant diseases in their genes. That said, we're talking an initial three families, intermingling for thousands of years, with zero outsider DNA. I'm not saying that's impossible - they could've gotten extremely lucky with mutations and gene combos to the point that they defied the odds - but that kind of luck would make Senku catching a lightning bolt on the first try that one time look like rolling snake eyes on loaded dice. Second... They found out where the petrification started by looking at websites like Twitter and seeing which geographical locations stopped Tweeting first. Except... Even if every human being on Earth were to stop doing anything, there'd still be new Tweets. From bots running automatically. Now, I actually am curious how long those bots would continue without anyone maintaining the physical computers, but this is a strange oversight.
