This play is not for the Classic Drama listener. It’s a sort of paperback novel, that moves along at a good rate, and doesn’t get bogged down. We have a hero, a baddy, a femme fatale, an assortment of dubious persons, a large variety of sound effects, and international travel. I enjoyed the ride. Thanks ..Eric

Don't miss the news afterwards! 1:30. Who remembers Red Adair successfully capping the Bravo rig blowout in the North Sea in 1977? A little bonus there! Thanks again for another enjoyable upload. 😊

Did the BBC present a radio play based on the Bravo rig story? I wasn’t alive then but seems like I have heard a radio drama story along those lines…

You have just jogged my memory . . . a joke about Ginger Rogers and Red Adair going the rounds in a tiny ex-pat community . . . looking back, 1977 was the beginning of the end of our Western Christian culture. Sad. Very, very sad.

@grimtt The BBC did a 'Sound Portrait' short series on oil rigs... not quite a drama, but an impression of life and events. Maybe you remember this? Oil Rig BBC Radio 4 First broadcast: Wed 24th Aug 1977, 20:00 on BBC Radio 4 FM A sound portrait of a visit. Earlier this year the blow-out on a North Sea drilling platform, tackled so excitingly by Red Adair and his team, was a timely reminder of the dangerous conditions under which our North Sea prosperity is won. In this shortened version of the programme broadcast in February on Radio 3, a BBC team records in sound and voices the experience of living on board an exploration rig. "A devastating impression of reality." (SUNDAY TELEGRAPH) (Stereo/Binaural) (The full binaural effect of this programme can be achieved by listening through stereo headphones)

Less than a month ago Lewis was a complacent and relatively useful member of the community. He was 40 and his life seemed perfectly planned. But it only takes a redundancy, a trip to France and an obsession with a beautiful women to turn his life upside down...

@@grimtt hi, can you please explain? I loved this play mind you, it is more like an audio book but it is the best play I have heard here. I too, want to find part 2, that's how I ended up here but its only part one. Are the 2 you just mentioned parts 2 and 3 of 'Everything is Thunder'? Please, not that I will have any luck locating them. I will google the two titles that you just mentioned. God bless.

Hello, I was just about to ask that! It's 17th of September 2021 and I have just heard this today. I'm dying to listen to part two! I googled it and ended up here!! I also asked the other person, would they please post part two. I hope someone reads this and posts part 2. I also asked the other poster, how do they find these radio plays, in the first place because I want to hear ones from the 1940s from Australia, America and Canada too, just for a change. God bless, the care x

I generally like plays like this, but I found this one curiously unsatisfying, in spite of fine playing by Daniel Massey (some of the other acting was less competent than I expect from BBC radio of this period).
@dizheller2101

I found the story somewhat trite. 'Harper' behaves like the fact that he considers himself "in love" with the girl gives him the right to expect and demand certain responses from the girl. Immature, like at lovesick teenager.

51 minutes into the program, and I pretty much fed up with Natasha. She's wishy-washy and can't make up her mind. She has no problem being between two men. Her beautiful appearance is blinding our hero. She has character flaws. Let's see how the rest of this play rolls out. Perhaps I'll change my opinion by the end of the story. ---------------- 35 minutes later into the story, and I was right with what I wrote up above. That woman was awful, I saw right through her. One good thing about my old age, I've learned a few things in life. Cheers! 😎😎⭐⭐

I’m with you Inc Sim, while I’d go for further stories of our hero, I wasn’t too sad when it ended without our him “getting the girl.” In fact he acted a bit of a whiny butt about the whole thing, oh well! 😆And Bektas is right, the sequel to this story appears to be lost to posterity. Neat news presentation that followed though!
