Pink Kat you completely missed the point, regardless of you being right about the fact that ofc even if you threw money at someone, they’d still need to decide to spend that on their own favor, the point was that Bloomberg has the wealth to bring about or help bring about change for hundreds of thousands of people, if he really cared about them. But he doesn’t, which is why he’s throwing money everywhere but to those who need it, going against a lot of other democratic candidates, who would all, except for Tom Steyer, make for a better president or at least presidential nominee, than Bloomberg would.
Pink Kat “throwing people money” has actually helped and I would rather these social safety nets exists in the event that any of us need to use these services. No organization or government gives the homeless people checks or money directly, instead the federal government provides housing choice vouchers or section 8 vouchers which allow poor people to rent houses at a reduced rate. Any of us could fall on hard times, many of us are just a few pay checks away, and it’s comforting to know that I could have assistance getting housing rather than sleeping on the streets. Also the part about all homeless people being drug addicts isn’t true either. Substance abuse was also mentioned by 13% of cities as one of the top three causes for families. People who are homeless often turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with their situations. They use substances in an attempt to attain temporary relief from their problems. In reality, however, substance dependence only exacerbates their problems and decreases their ability to achieve employment stability and get off the streets. Additionally, some people may view drug and alcohol use as necessary to be accepted among the homeless community (Didenko and Pankratz, 2007). Breaking an addiction is difficult for anyone, especially for substance abusers who are homeless. • Motivation to stop using substance may be low. For many homeless people, survival is more important than personal growth and development, and finding food and shelter take a higher priority than drug counseling. • Many homeless people have also become estranged from their families and friends. Without a social support network, recovering from a substance addiction is extremely difficult. • Even if they do break their addictions, homeless people face the difficulty of resisting widely accessible substances in very near proximity (Fishet and Roget, 2009). • Unfortunately, many treatment programs focus on abstinence only programming, which is less effective than harm- reduction strategies and does not address the possibility of relapse (National Health Care for the Homeless Council, 2007). Substance abuse often occurs simultaneously with mental illness. People with untreated mental illnesses frequently use street drugs as a form of self-medication. Homeless people with both substance disorders and mental illness experience additional obstacles to recovery, such as increased risk for violence and victimization and frequent cycling between the streets, jails and emergency rooms (Fisher and Roget, 2009). Unfortunately, these people are often unable to find treatment facilities that will help them. Instead of penalizing people for drugs alcohol and substance abuse we as a society should give these people support, and the opportunity to get better in life instead of stigmatizing heir situations.

".. worry that medicare for all is going to take away private insurance.." Who worry when private insurance refuses to cover all your medical bills & medication or when you lose your insurance and your job??? - / - / -/
@Angelo Stevens The NHS has its issue, the main one being is that 10 years of conservative governments have refused to fund it to cope with demand. The problem isn't the NHS as an institution, the problem is right wingers campaign to dismantle the social safety net piece by piece until it's all been sold off to the lowest bidder. Also for the record, we still have private medical care and insurance in the UK, the point of the NHS is that you don't NEED private insurance, it's simply there for people who can afford and want it, but it's not needed.
@Angelo Stevens about 10% of people also have private medical insurance. However your point about being "forced to pay" is ridiculous. Everyone pays into the NHS because at some point, everyone needs the NHS, private insurance for instance doesn't cover emergency treatment. Also this idea of not paying for something because you don't think you'll need it is ridiculous. That would be like saying "well why should my taxes go to a police force? No one has burgled MY house"
@Angelo Stevens private insurance doesn't cover emergency medical care because it doesn't NEED to cover emergency medical care and the private hospitals that do exist don't have emergency departments because they don't need to have them. The demand for a private emergency care doesn't exist because people are happy with the NHS, not to mention it would make no sense for a paramedic to dive a patient to a private hospital with an ED(if they existed) when chances are they'll be far more NHS hospitals with an A&E closer. Also the main reason, at least from the people I do know that have private insurance, for them opting to buy it has nothing to do with the quality of service, they would just rather a hospital bed go to someone who isn't lucky enough to afford private insurance. You clearly have no idea about how the NHS works or why it's beloved here in the UK. Just Like I am doing with my portfolio, I am re-allocating to different investments that will reduce my tax exposure. In discussing options with my financial advisor, internally they are predicting a 40% decrease in the Dow if he is elected. The only way he will pay for everything is through raising taxes and more regressive taxation like they have in Europe. The last time I was there tax on gas was 0.86 euro/liter ($4.40/gallon tax) plus they have VAT taxes; both of these hurt poorest of their citizens.
Hes a millionaire through politics use your head dont be ignorant . now hectalks about billionaires bc hes a millionare now. Also he thinks rapists murderers while in prison should vote . he's a a nut
He specified "This COUNTRY", America killed MLK when he started protesting the Vietnam war and talking about socialism. This is why we blacks won't ever trust another white person left or right wing. Only reason we vote Bernie is because of his track record.
i know right? i consider myself a moderate, i see lots of shades of grey, i want to see compromise... but it seems other people think that solving some of our biggest problems is radical? this is confusing to me.
Bernie would be considered a centrist in any other developed country. It's crazy to think that he's the leftmost-leaning politician we have in the States. We don't have "conservative" and "liberal" parties in the US. We just have "conservative" and "extremely conservative" parties.
@@sallywilliams5444 There's nothing anti-democratic about socialism, Sanders' stance on how the convention should be settled, or his policy proposals. I'd actually argue that capitalism is less democratic than socialism, as it creates top down hierarchies completely unaccountable to the will of the people. You can also see its corrosive influence on democracy by the undue influence of special interests on our lawmakers.
@@roboham09 Thank you for explaining what Bernie means. I get so sick and tired of people knocking him and not having the slightest idea what they are talking about.
Sally Williams. It is clear that you did not study that well on high school Socialism is an economic system that can exist with democracy---- a political system. And what is wrong with democratic socialism? Canada is one, and last time I check, we are in way better situation especially in terms of health care and children tax benefits.
I don't disqualify a candidate because he's wealthy. I chose a candidate based on his intentions for the poor. He's the only one with a persistent plan for the suffering. Every other candidate is more of the same. I love successful leader but I love leaders who remember those who enable their success.
I never understand when people look at Bernie's finances as a reason not to vote for him...Why cant people see that as the selling point that it is? He has enough money that he doesnt HAVE to care about the things that he does. He just does. Its who he is. That makes him a stronger candidate in my eyes.
Portions of the economy Bernie has explicitly said he wants to socialize: 1. Energy 2. Healthcare 3. Education You should go research Karl Marx so you know what you're talking about. Bernie is a Marxist. Absofreakinlutly. No doubt.
Robert Mortensen Energy? We give away millions in subsidies to fossil fuel industries right now. We use imminent domain to build their prone to bursting pipelines. Healthcare? Only the insurance portion bc it’s more efficient, & with everyone in the same boat hospitals will compete for your business rather fiercely. That’s still competition, choice, and markets. Education? The schools are already public, he’s just removing the tuition costs & forgiving crippling debt that’s slowing our economic recovery.
BRITTANY BOND you are uneducated on what Sanders is about. Go read up on the differences between Socialism, which has been used to hide a dictatorship behind like the USSR, China and Venezuela and Democratic Socialism which Denmark, Sweden and many other Europeans enjoy. Educate yourself before you wind up in a worse oligarchy than we have now. WAKE UP DEMOCRATS AND STOP REPEATING REPUBLICAN BULLSHIT. Sanders is an FDR Democrat (look it up)
BRITTANY BOND Except that’s not the form of government he advocates for. He’s against the death penalty, against socializing all industry, against authoritarianism(because that’s literally the opposite of Democratic), and has pointed to the specific government models he’s in favor of. He didn’t point to the USSR, nor Nazi Germany. He pointed to Denmark, and Sweden. So please explain to me how many millions of deaths you think they’ve caused. You are straw manning so hard it’s not even funny.
4 corporations own 90% of US mass media. NBC = Comcast, CNN = WarnerMedia. 90% (at least) of US mass media is against Bernie Sanders, the 1%, corporations, the military industrial complex & the DNC establishment--but Bernie keeps winning. That's the power of the Progressive movement now in the US. Bernie could sweep 14-17 of the 17 primaries from now through Super Tuesday.
Take note MSNBC more likely, amazingly enough (!) CNN has actually been better than MSNBC who have gone full corporate jizzguzzler in the last half year
No kidding, first time in a LONG time anyone has thought of us. I worked my ass off to get out of poverty and now we struggle even more. I lived better when I qualified for SOCIAL services the country has had in place for decades. I’m tired of paying so much for shit that doesn’t even benefit my family. Let the Bloomberg’s and Bezos’ of the world fund the country like they should have all along!
Love his relentless flight for the 99%. He never loses focus. For 40 years he has been consistent. Americans are incredibly fortunate to have a leader like him who keeps fighting for them.
@@katarinasmith4351 you people are an example of a failed education system. You dont even know what socialism is but you are here talking about as if you actually know what you are talking about. Atleast make an attempt to learn and understand what you are complaining about. Let me ask you the same question i ask everyone saying this. What IS socialism? And give me 3 policies of bernies that are socialism or free stuff.
Subhas Roy haha but funny how he never gives up his wealth considering his in the 1%. Actually anyone earning over $87k is in the 1% according to the UN. In 40 year in the govt not once has he fought or brought forward 1 of these policies. Seems like they will only work when his president. In 40 year in govt his gone from nothing to a millionaire. How many shares in renewables do these and past democrats have considering they want to use tax money to prop up those companies. Al Gore etc live right on the beach and fly private jets.. just like Bernie.. multimillionaire who fighting injustice with other people’s money.. and taxes. When will he start using his own.
Brandon Ganss Medicare for all is a socialism policy. Govt provided job is the socialism And take over of private industry is also socialism, And all are Bernie policies champ. You can have socialism such as “free” health care and not have a socialist country. The programme is socialist. I would suggest you should of went to the same school you think failed @katarina smith, and learn a few things.
I feel like I might get roasted for not being an American and expressing my opinion but Bernie is not a radical left wing candidate in places where I’m from. In fact anyone who wouldn’t want things like Heath care for all would be seen as a radical conservative. There’s a list of problems as long as my arm for my country but the idea someone is left in crippling debt for healthcare is mind blowing
I hope not as he is a socialist/communist! If you are for Bernie, take a closer look @ Venezuela! How is he going to pay for the freebie? RAISE TAXES!! Nothing is free folks! TRUMP 2020 Keep America Great & put down the democrat kool aide (aka quit being brainwashed by the news & I challenge you to do your own homework!)
@@KonservativeKim how 'bout we look at Norway, Finland or even Canada instead? Socialism is just a boogyman scare word the Right uses to keep you afraid. You want to be free of socialism, we can start with SOCIAL Security, then we can stop goverment construction and maintenance on our public highways. How about getting rid of the public Water Works and the Center for Disease Control too? Socialism what societies do.
People complain that Bernie always talks about the same issues but isnt the problem that he HAS to talk about these issues because after all the years nothing has changed? Bernie stands up for the working class more than anyone else ✊
Also: it works!!! I'm an American living in London and Boris Johnson learned this from Trump: people have VERY short attention spans and need to hear things over and over. Boris - sadly - won by repeating (until the country wanted to hit him) that he was going to 'Get Brexit Done.' Simple and to the point. Works.
As Republican i always knew Bernie would never get picked. In 2016 i knew that he will not cus of Hillary i was even worried that she will win but in 21:00 i went to sleep and i couldnt believe trump won. In 2020 same shit too. As fraud on presidental elections it was fraud on DNC. Clintons and Deep State need dementian puppet ...
@@cosmiccreator Can't wait for the breadlines! 2020 a time for starvation! "Sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is because people are lining up for food. That's a good thing!" - Bernie Sanders
Vincent Campaert so you would rather people starve....in an age which remembered the depression....also we subsidize farms to make sure they don’t go under but not people ....dude you kind of suck as a human
@BRITTANY BOND Actually, Raymond Marti has it spot on; the economy of Venezuela was ruined by US sanctions because they were considering building oil infrastructure with help from Russia or China (thereby potentially undermining the US' virtual monopoly on trading oil in dollars - thus propping up the US dollar in international markets and making it much stronger and more relevant than it otherwise would be). I'm not a huge fan of Chavez, but he actually did do quite a bit to reduce extreme poverty and all poverty in Venezuela. I believe he also improved basic healthcare and most measurable aspects of healthcare. Most of what we hear on MSM is propaganda; our government is the most responsible for a LARGE part of Venezuela's current issues, not Chavez or the people who supported him.
@BRITTANY BOND seems you don't know how economics works. Simply explained the reason Venezuela crashed was because the foundation of which Venezuela stood on was the price of oil being high. Once the price of oil plummeted the government had nothing to fall back on. At least in the US we have the national gold reserves if we were stupid enough to have the value of our money be backed by oil. But sure you can continue to think "sOciALisM" was the cause of it all. Edit: As for Venezuela I don't know the full history that has led up to it crashing. I'm sure the US probably had a hand in it just like every other central American country.
@BRITTANY BOND Venezuela is not socialist, it has a full blown capitalist economy. Yes the oil is owned by the state but so is the case in Saudi Arabia... What creates the poverty in Venezuela today is sanctions and illegal confiscations of their assets by the USA and UK (who took their gold...)
@BRITTANY BOND Oh, just a related tangent; I live in the greater DC area and have actually met someone who worked with the Chavez government (randomly through a friend). I don't even remember who it was, but they were American and could speak spanish, so they did an internship there during graduate school in the early 2000's. They told us a story about how they were there for a hit attempt on Chavez's life that they were sure was planned / managed, or at least financed, by the CIA. This person was freaked out and fully convinced that everyone within Chavez's inner circle was 100% sure this assassination attempt was from the US and the US alone.
@BRITTANY BOND it's not a form of socialism, it's an authoritarian regime that misrepresents socialism. During when Germany was a republic. Hitler tried to mask himself as being for the the German public to gain the upper hand on the leadership of the Nazi party. He then presented himself as a strong leader that would get Germany out of the economic crisis that he blamed on wealthy Jewish community. He loathed Karl Marx and misrepresented socialism as a way to propel himself as the authority figure.
@@mansory7996 if you truly think trump will beat bernie you are mistaken. Trump didnt even beat hillary in 2016 the only reason he won is because of how the districts were gerrymandered. People thought trump had no chance to win so they didnt go out and vote he wont win again
