Always a great detail! At six hours for $300 that works out to $50 an hour or $100k a year at full time (40 hours a week but before expenses of course). Your efficiency will get better by focusing on a specific area at a time and having all of your tools at hand - grabbing different tools and moving (especially, in and out of the interior) adds to your overall time. Considering how hot it was though I can see wanting to work different areas that might be in the shade. I will sometimes spend 3 hours on one of my Mini Coopers so you are making good time when you consider how large a Sequoia is....

Hi, Jess. Nice work.. I used to take 6-7 hours on one vehicles myself, but now my time is cutting down. Even though I still take some time depending on what the job is. Shampoo with wash and details will take long but I tried to cut my time. Sometimes I vacuum one side then wipe down , clean door Jams and move onto the other side and do the same thing then the trunk and the edge , close it and onto my washing then finish exterior and back to interior, I will do the polishing of dashboard and all other areas of kind then glass and do my final vacuum to get up any light stuff that are noticeable close my doors , walk around the vehicle looking for any fingerprints and get ride of them then I let customer know ik done.. I have 25 reviews and they are all 5 stars on Google listing.. But I am having issues with not getting many customers booking me from my Google listing.. I don't know why and what is going on..

FYI, I just completed a full exterior detail only & it took me 12 hours to complete (Chevy Equinox SUV). I deep cleaned the engine, wheels, tires, wheel wells, door jams, trunk area & hood and all areas were protected. The car was mechanically & chemically decontaminated. Then machine polished. Finally it was protected with a Ceramic Spray Coating. Tires and trim were protected as well. It took me 12 hours to complete these steps. The customer was charged $360 and was completely satisfied...

Great Job ! Well I will do my door jams first no matter what ! If its hot outside normally try wash first while I have little cooler weather in the morning . Then move to inside. If its cool outside I try do inside first then outside . Either way I use dark furry spray door jams let it dwell then power wash them off and for me it works great ! And I agree Aqua Gloss inside you cant beat it and I found last lot longer and less dust build up!

@DetailWithJess
@DetailWithJess 2 месяца назад
Hey Mike! Thank you. My process has been shifting based upon everyone’s suggestions but lately I have been using Dark Fury to do the door jambs and then at the end of the detail, I wipe everything down one more time with ONR. That leaves a nice finish on the seals. As for cleaning the dirt out of the seals, a little bit of APC and a tornador usually clean them out well.

Question for you guys... I detail and interiors take me about 3 hours to complete. With that being said, my costumers batteries die sometimes. Does it happen to yall or is there a trick yall have that I should be doing?
@DetailWithJess
@DetailWithJess 2 месяца назад
So the battery will only die if the power is on - the key is to open ALL of the doors (trunk included) and keep them open through the entire detail. This way the power will shut off and it won’t turn back on. Worst case scenario (Subaru Ascents, for example have the WORST batteries), I will start the car a couple times throughout the detail just to be safe. But the key is to not open and close the doors. Keep them open and it’ll keep the power turned off.

Only things I do differently - 1) I always clean carpets and seats at the end, because I'm going to dirty them while cleaning the rest of the interior, 2) I don't use a towel to clean interior at all, I prefer pads. Towels bunch up and roll and are a pain. They also don't have enough scrubbing ability. I use Griots Microfiber Cleaning Pad for a deeper clean then then Griots Microfiber Applicator Pad for a final buff and for delicate plastics/screens. 3) Finish with air freshener/fragrance. Put air on high and recirculate for 5mins to move it around. 4) I've seen you use a dental pick for crevices - Detail Factory sells a "pick set" that is made for that type of thing and is much safer 5) On outside don't forget to dress undercarriage, especially on trucks, with an Undercarriage Spray.

It's amazing how much dirt, leaves and pine needles accumulate there. It's nice to see your honesty and humor about how hard detailing is when mobile & in the heat. It takes a lot out of you physically & mentally. How many of us have or can afford a temperature-controlled garage. Not many but It's on our wish for sure. Keep up the great work!

I will recommend washing the car first. sprayed door jams with dark fury or msn or gs . Two things this will help with believe me I detail cars in Vegas heat it’s terrible. First it will cool down the car and you can pressure wash the door jams as you rinse down the car as well. Same towels you used to dry the car put them over the front windshield they will dry faster for your next detail and it will keep the sun from hitting you once you start the interior detailing. That it’s my technique for now. Oh also have you try AWH for wheels and tires in my experience 1:10 dilution on this product will save you big money for wheels and tires. Better than brake buster my opinion. I hope this helps. Great work 💪

Thanks so much for all the tips!! So the reason I stopped washing first was because most of my interiors are SO dirty that when I air compress, the dirt and dust gets ALL OVER the exterior…After living in Florida, I learned people in the city have some really clean cars in comparison to out in the country here. This one obviously wasn’t bad and the exterior could have been done first, for sure.

Do it in the order that suits you best and then you'll have your routine fixed in your mind every time. I used to valet or as it's called today - detail cars here in the UK back in the 1980's and it was basically wash the car with one bucket and sponge then a leather to dry everything off. we would have a roll of polishing cloth that we cut into rag sizes to add wax and then buff off. I worked for a company who charged £25 for a brand new showroom car and £35-45 for used cars depending if they needed a T-cut and i got a wage of around £70-80 per week. Oh how things have changed, i sound old but really i'm not. 😂😉

My thought process is that if I get any misting/overspray on the seats or carpet, I’m going to be able to handle it when I get into the vacuuming and interior cleaning. Why are you undercharging when you know you’re undercharging? A lot of times properly charging just comes down to confidence and mindset. The next time someone reaches out to you, up your price to a number you feel confident in saying and then just keep upping it until you feel total confidence in charging the right amount. All of these people who tell you to go straight to the full price sometimes don’t realize there is a money mindset and confidence barrier that first needs to be broken through and it sounds like that’s where you’re at. Just keep upping your price and building your confidence in verbally delivering that new price. You got this!

Interesting you say this. I have seen a lot of GMC’s (with 100,000 miles or so) that have destroyed door panels prior to my details. You think it’s from product?

I’m running into problems with the aqua gloss looking streaky. What delusion ratio are you using for the aqua gloss?
@DetailWithJess
@DetailWithJess 2 месяца назад
Because it is water based, it will leave those streaks…especially depending on the material it is being applied to. I dilute it 1:1. I find that when it does look streaky, if I “buff it” out it will remove the streaks. I started using Chemical Guys VRP for that reason and it was no different so I went back to Aqua Gloss.

My only question? How do you prevent from killing the battery with doors open so much?
@DetailWithJess
@DetailWithJess 2 месяца назад
If you keep the doors open, the interior lights and power will turn off. So the key to interiors is to open all of the doors at the same time and leave them open until you’re finished with the detail. Subaru Ascents have the WORST batteries, so for those details, just to be safe, I will start the car every now and then just to be sure the battery stays charged. Worst case scenario, I do have jumper cables with me.

Great looking detail! Excellent results! I wish I had a nice set up like your van, but I'm only infrequently detailing. I love Dark Fury! I use several chemicals from Superior Products, including Road Warrior. I mix DF and RW as an exterior APC to get grimey stuff, bugs, and tree sap. I use it on wheels, door jambs, fuel door, and weather tec mats. I may have to start using wheel acid, though. I keep getting cars that have never been detailed and DF doesn't really cut through the caked on brake dust. Not even with scrubbing.

As mobile detailers we are very limited working outdoors and shade is our best friend. To be honest with the high heat + the heat advisory which made it feel like 106 degrees, it drained me. You mentioned you don't know how other detailers clean the exterior so fast especially in direct sun. I wonder that too but my process when i am in direct sun is straight forward. I knock out the door jambs, then onto the wheels and then bug removal and address any heavy soiled areas. Then i do a thorough rinse and then i use the foam cannon with shine supply hotshot or adams mega foam mixed with distilled water. I then wash the vehicle in full and then go for my rinse and then towel dry. I know many detailers would have their say so about washing in direct sun but i mentioned those 2 car wash products because they were formulated to soften your water and be used in direct sunlight. I have had great results with those products as i get 0 water spots and i don't know how they made those products but that is how i am getting the exterior done pretty quick. Great video by the way and it's great to see a detailer adjusting her technique based on the weather conditions as it is not easy at all on the hottest days. One thing i will say is that i don't know how other detailers are using iron decon on a hot vehicle in direct sun.
@DetailWithJess
@DetailWithJess 2 месяца назад
Love your experience. My process is very similar but still takes an hour…I have no idea how in the world Detailer’s say that tires, door jambs and the entire exterior should be done in 30 minutes 😵‍💫 But I also wonder if these Detailer’s are in the city?…I have done a couple city vehicles and, oh my, what a breeze! But vehicles out in the country on fresh country tarred roads, dirt roads, and gravel driveways are a whole different game. So great to hear that those products have worked well for you in the sun!

every detailer have different method so whatever work for you then continue. personally for me I'll do the door jambs when im adding prewash on the entire vehicle and grab my pump sprayer it has pre wash in it and i spray the door jambs and agitated with a detail brush and afterwards i start rinsing the entire vehicle and door jambs one by one and once i finish with the entire exterior i go ahead and do a wipe down on the door jambs and if the interior get wet i just wipe it down but usually not much get inside depending on how you rinsing the door jambs

So I'm not the only one who takes long to detail. LOL. some vehicles do...In Texas it gets super hot. We have dry heat at times. In summer I wash the cars in sections because after foaming the car before even I can say dry the foam dries off. For the door jambs I rinse them off while washing and at the very end of the detail I spray some wax and clean them but if they super dirty I use Green Start during the Wash. And for the mats YESSSS Aerospace 303 works really great. That product Little goes a long way. Awesome content. Increase your price lol. You do great work.

Just found your channel - great vid and I subbed. I literally just bought my first pressure washer and have been getting it "customized" with quick releases, smaller guns and all that. Now that I've got a lot of that stuff sorted, and my driveway cleaned up, I'm thinking about moving on to detailing my car. But holy cow - 6 hours of work is a LOT. BUT your end product really looked great. Like I love the shine and the ways you went about cleaning up all the dog hair and your attention to details. LOVE IT! AND it was surprising to hear you wash one side and dry it before moving on to another panel. I never thought about that but it makes so much sense. Down here in Oklahoma we have regular 100+ degree days for months on end and it's brutal. I feel your pain and it's super annoying when trying to wash a car. Would LOVE to hear more details about this because it's not as obvious to us newbies how you actually pull this off. When I've tried in the past, I ALWAYS have to go back and really work on the sides I've already done due to over spray and drips and all that. Maybe you have that in other vids. Anyways I'll check out more of your vids - I'm so new I don't even know all the equipment and chemicals you've been using but keep up the good work and thanks for the vid.

I did not clean them with any product. I only spot clean if needed or they can had on that on as an extra service. My is a bug and tar removal, wheels/tires, and spray wax. I think I showed all of that in the video but it was really hot and my phone was shutting down due to the heat.

I would suggest getting a deionizer, that will make washing and drying so much easier and faster. You will not get the water spots when it dries. I use the Dual Bed double standard deionizer by On The Go Water Deionizer. Also add a high quality canopy, it will make your life a lot better. I use Eurmax and have a 10x15. They are not super light but you get a very good quality that will last years. I have used mine for over 3 years so far with no repairs. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I love how hard you work! Thank you for sharing you process. With that said, you need to either charge more or find another line of business. $300 for 6 hours isn't enough. If you were in the south like in the Carolinas or something, sure. But being that you're in CT, $50 an hour, IMO, isn't enough. If nothing else, offer a wax for an addon of say $100.

I’ve been using Koch Chemie AWC for wheels and tires diluted 1:3 and it browns the tires immediately and cleans wheels very well. I was using brake buster but as you mentioned a lot of the vehicles aren’t regularly detailed so I need something stronger. Not the cheapest but it’s diluted and works great. If I have stubborn tires I’ll use car pro retyre.

I do detailing part-time. My customers drop off their cars the night before which allows me to start working on their cars between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30. A.m.. I will then start cleaning all four wheels, then the door jambs, then washing the exterior drying exterior as well as a quick detail spray. Once that's completed I will start working on the inside. I will usually leave the floors for last due to the fact that I'm inside the car cleaning the dash windows seats. Once I'm done I will do a thorough vacuuming and at that point I'll be done. I will do a walk around of the vehicle just to make sure I didn't miss anything and that concludes what I refer to as a mini detail.
