@@faithfultotheend5202 good one, but be careful you’re making yourself look like a snow flake, and we don’t want people thinking you’re upset now. Especially when trump has such a good chance of winning the elections through the courts! But hey I’m going to call your reply to this, to it e going to say I spent the last four years crying. Nope I’m a swing voter that didn’t vote for Hillary nor Trump, so I can honestly say from an unbiased point of view, trump supporters are handling this way worse so far 😘
@@faithfultotheend5202 Oh James, you are SO clever! I see what you did there; you implied voter fraud by the Democrats! What an ingenious little comment, regardless of how baseless it is! Way to go, Jimbo!
I was just a baby when this all happened. I never knew the details of his downfall. Thanks, Weird History. I always learn something interesting from your channel.
If modern social media have been around in the 60’s-70’s, we legitimately would not be here today, we would’ve all killed off each other by today’s time. I miss the days of zero social media.
For those unfamiliar, a WHOLE lot resides on who has majority in the house and senate. Its very rare to have your own party vote against you. Clinton and Trump are good examples to show how safe your presidency can be. So do not ignore your state's house and senate ballots
Left out of the video is that shortly before he resigned, the Democrat and Republican leaders of the House and Senate met with Nixon in the White House and told him their were more than sufficient votes to impeach (House) and convict him (Senate.) That is when he finally decided to resign.
@@mohsman Exactly. He only resigned because enough Republicans turned against him. And enough Republicans turned against him because of the news media bombardment portraying Nixon as evil incarnate.
Said he spoke more than once with his "old" friend JFK, whom he came to Congress with back in January 1947. Deep interesting conversations (wish to God those had been taped & recorded).
@@fredcollins8919 Nixon wasn't a party to it but knew all about what had happened to JFK. If it had been recorded, that tape would have also disappeared.
Couldn't agree more. This current potential scandal makes Watergate look lime Nixon J-walked around midnight on a back country road just to get his mail.
Nixon was a tragic figure in American History, he did great things and would probably be remembered as a very good president if it wasn't for a major personality disorder. He was his own undoing.
In all honesty, despite any preconceived notions of who Nixon was, he really only got caught doing things that many had done, and many continued to do after this scandal. Being caught instead of the public never finding out, doesn't make him any less than anyone who proceeded or succeeded him. They just never got caught.
@@timmekaamerson147 I don't know of a single president since i entered this world that wasn't a total scumbag in need of executing if you believe in that or isolation until death if you don't. It's the real way of this world. The American dream, you'd have to be sleeping to believe it.
Calling it a switch is....Well kinda true and kinda not There was definitely a change with the Republican party, who went from progressive to Conservative But for democrats....well it's less Clear cut, few in the Democratic party are truly progressive, with exceptions like Bernie Sanders, for the most part they are filled with Centre-Right moderates.
There wasn't really a "switch", it's just the democrats kept going progressively further and further to the left to where now it's dominated by the "new left" radicals of the 60s and 70s who advocate for 6 year olds to undergo transgender surgery, while the GOP also drifted to the left but at a much, much slower rate.
Thank you for not just rehashing the Watergate scandal and doing something different. This is basically a portrait of what the White House was like in the Summer of 1974, so this was fascinating.
This video is just AMAZING! I'd love you to cover, over time many more, if not all, presidents in a similar fashion, even if there's not such staggering scandals around them. What I mean is the structure of this presentation is just great! Simple, essential and not for a second boring. An 11-minute cover of a POTUS is a nice thing to watch for anyone in the world! :) Keep up the beautiful great ✌️job✌️!!
I do love this channel. While clearly designed for the beginner, there's always some little titbit to learn for those of us who have long loved the subject. Great work.
He was the first President I ever voted for. It was a disappointment to see him resign but what the heck. That was my initiation into the U.S. political system, my first ever presidential vote ending in an unprecedented resignation. Politics sometimes goes way different than you may think otherwise, no one saw this coming at the time.
Another great vid, thanks. I remember this shit show. In Dec. 1972 Nixon abolished the draft. I had a low draft # and now i didn't need to go to Viet Nam. I was extremely grateful. The best quote i remember from Nixon was "You show me a good looser and I'll show you a real looser". Kinda reminds me of what Trump might say and do.
My grandfather was a practicing lawyer at the time of this. He worked for Congressman Eddie Garmatz (D-MD). He would commute from Hampton in Baltimore County to Capitol Hill in the days traffic wasn’t so prevalent.
He took a picture with Elvis. He took Coca Cola to Mao Tze Tung's China. He bombarded heavily Viet Nam. He spoke to the first men in the Moon and appeared with Mao in a John Lennon's album. That's what I remember of Richard Nixon from my childhood.
One of the greatest crooks to ever hold office. Even if we disregard the Watergate scandal, the things this conman did in office were absolutely deplorable.
Here we go again, except it's the Democrats being the crooks this time. "I would have got away with it too if it weren't for you meddling constitution-bashers!"
Forgive me for being childish...but I absolutely enjoy your voice. Over a year watching your vids...but your voice is quite mesmerizing.🤐 Your vids rock🤘
Imagine going to an office every morning to no work, " 7 am, cry like a girl. 8 am, think of scenarios to get back in office. 9 am, rig the local preschool class president election. 10 am, get caught. 11 am, cry like a girl. 12 pm blame JFK.
I feel like his tears make him human, compared to what we’re seeing now. He collapsed into himself, while our current president is setting metaphorical bombs throughout the country. It will be interesting to learn how he’s spending his last days in the White House (behind closed doors and in the middle of the night).
Compared with the most recent presidents' behaviors, Nixon's "scandals" were just blemishes. I remember him as a statesman with great strategic vision and a peacemaker.
at 2:45 Nixon is drinking a traditional south American non alcoholic beverage called "mate" while visiting Uruguay . It could be said this is one of the most sober moments of Nixon
I remember delivering the Washington Post on the 9th of August with the giant headline. Got them out faster than any other day if I remember. Waiting for the drunk dude to drop of my load of papers and since it was a Friday and there were no inserts I threw them into my bike cart and got them out pronto. Such good news.
There's a bit of political foreshadowing in Mafia II, including a subtle one about Obama being discussed by a group of black NPC's in the Sand Island neighborhood in the game.
Where were you when we had to watch hours and hours of this in civics class everyday, I'm dating myself LOL. I love Victory at Sea and I've got the whole collection
I live and breathe politics and the longer I live, the more sure I grow of just about every recent president on both sides of the aisle doing something like this, if not worse.
I don't know if you know this but any food that the POTUS and famiky eat during regular meals come out of the POTUS pocket. Sothe last meal was furnished by him not the goverment.
Richard Nixon and a man he will always be compared with, John F. Kennedy, have legacies shaped by a single incident in their presidencies that are unfair. Nixon is know, obviously, for the Watergate scandal but if that were removed from his presidency, he’d be remembered as one of the best, most important presidents in American history due to the sheer amount of great and impressive accomplishments, opening China, the EPA, ending the Vietnam war, etc., and JFK, if not for his assassination making him a well beloved martyr, would be remembered as a bit of a dud for his missteps and mistakes with few positive accomplishments. They are perfect examples of how a single incident can shape someone’s entire image, for the better or the worse.
Interesting, I had heard Nixon was bad, lol, hope this is where you post what video you would like researched, I only started enjoying history cuz of this channel, anyway HOW TRUE WAS THE MOVIE “ The Good Shepherd ?”
@@dr.floridaman4805 I’m gonna catch you up to speed guy, the senate election in Georgia is having a runoff election since neither got 50% votes. This will be happening January 5th.
not being american, and not alive at the time, i still have no idea what watergate even was and how that triggered everything they said in this video. i thought i'd finally learn wtf was watergate, but all i learned was someone broke into a hotel room and the us president started drinking and then resigned. guess i'll head to wiki now.
Error at 10:06, narration states Nixon ordered one last breakfast at taxpayers expense. Presidents pay for their and their family's food out of their own pocket. Taxpayers only pay for the food used for official use, State Dinners, luncheon meetings, diplomatic receptions, ect.
