Everything the Dark Harvest movie got wrong (Dark Harvest movie vs book) 

Same. JUST finished the movie and went looking for an explanation. We want answers! 😛

@@AhlywogThe crops will die. They talk in the movie how there was some major black dust storm that killed a bunch of people when Sawtooth got to the church on time. I think short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a great supplement to this story and gives more explanations.

The main question I have is how does Sawtooth go from a predator ripping people apart with ease to a bumbling stop-motion character who gets defeated by a jock with a baseball bat?

Or just circle the post you know he’s starting from. I also hate that they starve the kids for three days because it’s so dumb. Being malnourished isn’t great when you have to perform physically straining tasks in a dangerous situation. There’s a reason ancient cultures fed their hunters/warriors more.

What really cheeses me off is that all of your questions either have answers in the book, or were changed for the movie. Many of the answers are EXPLICITLY stated, but the writers just couldn't be bothered to put them in. 1. The town may not have many cops, but it doesn't need them because the entire town is run by the Harvester's Guild. If you piss off the Harvester's Guild, you're done. No job, social outcast, the works. The Guild doesn't want people leaving town. If you do, they hunt you down. In the book, Kelly's (the girl) parents were "line hoppers" that left town. Officer Ricks hunted them down, killed them, and kidnapped Kelly to bring her back to the town. 2. In the book, it doesn't. There are some shenanigans, these are teenagers after all, but for the most part everyone is focused on killing the October Boy. And most of the time, the October Boy doesn't care about killing anyone. He's usually just trying to survive the night. 3. In the book (how many times am I gonna type that I wonder?), some people do. The hunt has been going on for generations and there are many different strategies. Waiting by the church is a popular one because the church is the one place the October Boy MUST go. This strategy is, however, known to not work very well since so many people are actively hunting the October Boy and so they have the numbers advantage. 4. Because the film writers decided they wanted to change the ending and make everybody about as smart as a lobotomized goldfish. They thought about their version of the ending for about 2 femtoseconds. Zero attempt made? That statement refers to the writers. The book has a COMPLETELY different ending. 5. This one isn't actually anyone's fault but the kid's (victim blaming is cool, isn't it?). Only one person needs to die every year. Mostly the kids get themselves killed by being stupid. Sorry for writing a small novel here. This movie was just really sloppy and it pissed me off.

@@lard_aardvarkha! thanks for that. See, the problem was I found it frustrating too as it's an otherwise enjoyable film. This makes a lot more sense now, typical isn't it. Always the same, just do what's in the book, it's all there for you, just make it like that! lol Same goes for I am Legend, at least 3 versions of that film now and it's such a simple story lol

3BP plot in a nutshell. Things go to shit. Wallow in shit. Slowly there is more and more hope for a better future. Something happens to make the situation worse. Repeat. Excellent read.

while it isnt as good as the book it is really good

I actually found the book really boring almost dozed off a couple times when I was listening to the book on RU-vid

I feel like it’s a metaphor for blindly adhering to tradition even if it obviously does more harm than good. Like you know the motions of the tradition but don’t truly understand the meaning behind it.

It is explained…the town is cut off (there’s more explanation than that, I don’t want to spoil it). There’s no internet, it’s the 60s. No one leaves no one comes in (maybe families move in and don’t leave, I can’t remember for sure). They’ve grown up believing this and don’t really have a reason to believe differently. The myths also keep them distracted from reality. I think not thinking of this story as happening in the real world helps a lot. It’s a town with its own world building, what’s outside the town really doesn’t matter, only in the fact that some people want to get out, some accept they never will. It’s a fantastic book really, and it’s short, but it’s better to read and let the story take you rather than over analyzing. It was more enjoyable to me that I didn’t try to figure it out, once the story starts to reveal more info it made it all worth it. And it’s reminded me of an episode of Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt, but more complex.

Film was shit, after hearing about the novel (book) and what should have really happened I was mad. Ending could have been so much better, but in Book as in the Movie they just made Richie seem like an Idiot that couldnt think 0,1 Step ahead.

Going to read book now
