oh you're still right tho! "upkeep" is a Step within the beginning Phase! Untap -> Upkeep -> Draw are the 3 Steps that together make up the Beginning Phase!

This was super fun! And super helpful! I used to play MTG as a kid but i forgot a lot of things so it was a nice refresher of the basics! Especially downloading and playing thru the tutorial alongside u! Its rly nice how much more u mention and explain than the tutorial, not only by yapping(/pos) but also with the little pop-up explanations! The editing is simple but good too!! Overall 10/10 tutorial Ryoma, youre doing amazing considering you just joined Niji! Welcome and im rly lookin forward to more of whatever u have in store! 🙏❤️

Awesome video Ryoma. I'm not going to lie, I've been dying to see more vtubers do more longform content like this for a long time, so I legitimately appreciate you making a video like this 😭 If you're willing to take advice, there are still places of "fat" that I think you can trim down in certain sections of the video to help keep the pace of the video consistent and up it's information value (although it could be a skill issue on my part cause there were certain parts where I had to rewatch to regain context of certain game mechanics you were trying to explain, however I very well may have just accidentally tuned out some parts while listening) That being said, this is legit amazing for something that I believe is mostly unscripted, and I legitimately did learn so much more about how to play Magic now because of your video! I really am looking forward to seeing the rest of this series of video!🥳

I've only previously seen one from NIJI EN stream a bit of MTG, so I was really happily surprised when I saw you mention MTG in your favorite games! ✨ This is also a genuinely great tutorial video. It proves you know the basics, that you can capably work your way to the more advanced concepts in future uploads, and that you can clearly explain how the game works in your own words and style of humor (personality! raah!). Regarding damage: For Pokemon, damage remains, for Yu-Gi-Oh!, there isn't a creature damage system at all - either it's defeated and destroyed or it's not, there's no partial damage.

I played Magic as a kid, but I didn't keep up with it after high school (I just don't have the brain to enjoy deckbuilding or strategy games in general for long stretches). Even though I don't actively play myself, it's still really great to know the rules because if my friends are playing I can always just borrow a deck and join in! Sure, I may not have the most advanced tactics and game knowledge, but the inherent randomness of a card game means everyone's got a fighting chance. It's also a good way to meet fellow nerds by playing at your local game store. For those new to the game: it can definitely seem intimidating, but most of the mechanics become second nature one you've played for a bit. There's no substitute for experience, so I'd encourage you to download MTGA and give it a shot! Combined with advice about some of the less intuitive strategy elements from an experienced player like Ryoma, you'll be up and running in no time.

This is a great intro to MTG and Arena, and I look forward to seeing where you take it in the future! I first played a long time ago (like “mana burn” long time) but I dropped off for many years and recently came back via Arena. The only feedback I’d give for this episode are 1) it would be good to point out which text on cards matters versus reminder and flavour text, and 2) CMC got renamed to “mana value” officially, although plenty of people still refer to CMC.

Oh and I was also going to say what I really look forward to is seeing you explain some of the bits of the game that aren’t covered in the tutorial. It’s really good at covering the basics, but then you’re thrown into Standard with a thousand new mechanics and you have no idea why you’re suddenly losing matches left and right to all the weirdness that’s out there.

This commentary on the game mechanics are soo cool and informative. Magic the gathering actually sounds like a card version of an RTS game but in a turn based format involving luck. The game sounds like lords fighting over land in order to unify the world and hiring mercenaries, soldiers, or summons to fight their battles with their resources. P.S. I have not read any lore of the game so if my assumptions are all wrong, sorry to those who might be offended by my comment.

I didn't really care for any card games before as I thought I would get bored quickly as there was no action, but from what I've seen it's quite a fun game will give it a try and see if I enjoy it, this is my first real card game as the only cards I ever collected and played as a kid were Animal Kaiser cards from arcade games, good and detail first tutorial, nice work dude

24:44 bro lmao you can be damn SURE that i would send them out and lose a creature, because (as the genshin genius invocation tcg idiot that i am) i assumed that even if i don't attack, they still get to attack me and it's a waste of my turn 💀 it's trippy to me that attacks happen simultaneously in this game, im used to the GI tcg " first player 1 cards and attacks, then player 2 cards and attacks" flow of duels

PLEASE keep this out. BTW you are right about pokemon, wrong about yugioh. If you attack a defense position monster in yugioh and you dont have more atk than def, you will lose LP. In pokemon you cant atk face at all, and in YGO you can only attack face when there are no monster
