I am so thankful your garden has been so fruitful this year. This has been the worse year for us in 30 years. We have been in a drought for months. Watering has not helped a bit. The sun is blistering our leaves on certain plants, and the ground hogs have burrowed under our fences to get to our food. We have nuked a few, but they are starving, too. We are just so blessed to have the stored food we have.
I’ve definitely had a few losses this year. Lots of my berries have what I think is a fungal issue. I am hoping they survive and perhaps I can do some heavy pruning over the winter months. I keep sending Nate to get me more canning jars so I’m right on track with you about being grateful that we have and are continuing to add to our food. I try to put up as much as I can so if we do have a bad year, I will feel ok about it. If you find a local farmers market, you could always try and bring some produce in and preserve that if you feel that your food storage is lacking in a certain area:)
The best hurricane radio when all local towers are damaged is a very very sensitive AM radio because you can listen to all AM stations during the day in a 250-300 mile radius. But because of communist censorship this evil platform won`t allow me to name the brand. Why? It`s American.
We live in FL….Hurricanes ! We have been canning and stockpiling things this year. We are always prepared during hurricane season. Generator checked, fuel for it, extra water and dog food on hand, cars always filled up early, plenty of cash on hand. , Other than boredom I would say we could go without leaving our home for 3 months or more.
I thought the ceo guy looked rough like he had been under duress for days! Not even had a shave in a few days..did he know there was a glitch that was going to be released anyway?
These are GREAT reminders! People don't think about having printed copies of things, plus actual cookbooks. A few years ago, I started printing out recipes, and all kinds of information from online sources. I have put it all together in a couple of binders, in case we are unable to get the internet in an SHTF or emergency situation. Buy books or print out recipes, how to do things, home medical instructions, what herbs to use for different ailments, how to butcher different wild animals, how to clean fish, how to grow a garden, how to purify water, how to can food, cooking outdoors with no electric or gas, etc. People depend on the internet way too much, so when it's gone, they will not know what to do. Thank you for the reminder to people!! (PS: I would definitely make sure I had a canning book with all the processing times for meats and vegetables! Or, you could look them all up and write them down.)
This is a great thing to do. I do have lots of canning books but also have binders of printed recipes from the NCFHP. Remember using encyclopedias??? We didn’t have the wealth of information that internet provides today. Most people younger than us wouldn’t even know how to find information without it!
Thank you. All my overalls are from Duluth Trading. They run large so I order a size down and they are still a bit loose and comfy on me. Wait until they have a sale and then find a coupon to stack on that. The last few pairs I’ve gotten have been less than 30$:)
We'be been thinking the same way since 2008. It takes time to work toward semi-selfsustaining. I hope lots of people are on that journey. We have always had the generator plug in each of our houses over the years. Every house should be built with that as a standard thing. We still have that for a back-up, but we're completely off grid now with solar.
That is great. I would love to be at a place that we could implement solar. Here for our house it is very cost prohibitive. But I hope in the future we may find ourselves in a more “homestead friendly” house. What I mean by that is a home built with self sustainability in mind:)
Words out to keep an eye on the Kuduz bug on vining crops. Jason, at Cog Hill Farm in AL, had two crops hit. So far, not affecting me, but it is spreading.
Your raised bed gardens are my goal. We plant in ground my husband is old school lol. My tomatoes did not do well this year but i have no troubles growing sqaush or zucchini .
Situational awareness is seriously lacking in our society. Have you noticed that a lot of stores are going cashless. That is scary. Obtaining OLD Encyclopedias that haven't been altered. I know this may sound weird, but I know every street, every alley, found every hiding place I would need (in the event of an emergency) in my town. It would be mass chaos if the Internet and communication went down. They will be beating on our doors.
@@sassyherbgardener7154 Glenn Beck was talking about how publishers are taking chapter out or rewriting old books because they don't like the content or want to mislead people. He said to obtain old books because the new ones are being altered.
Have you seen “How It Ends”? It’s on Netflix. It shows you how quickly society would implode without electricity and communication. It makes me want to move to the mountains!
Beryl made us realize how a dead town was like for days and for some weeks. Fortunately we had a generator . But the fuel was a different story . And I tell ya toke hours to get it until the gas station were run out of gas . Thank God I can a lot, plus I got my supplies. But it could be better ! Don't take this easily. Please prepare for the unknown!🙏🏻
There is only so much gasoline one can store but there may be an option of a dual fuel generator where you have a large propane tank that you can hook into. Glad to hear that you are ok. I bet there is a lot someone can learn from going through that!
@MorganHillFarms yes we do , our generator is dual gas , or propane. But with propane would cost way more and only runs for 6 hours , on gas 10 hours ! A big difference.
We had no power for 3 weeks in central Louisiana after Laura. I decided to build my own solar power supply. Now I can have electricity....plenty if the sun shines for cooking and a window AC...and if it doesn`t I just focus on my freezer, lights and small fans. I bought a charger too that can be used with a gas generator to top off my big battery so I can run AC while I sleep. I had planned to be on a sunny lot but a more secluded one with less sun is where I moved to. So much less solar now unless I spend a fortune on very very long cables to move my panels 125 yards away.
