Everything We Know About The NEW Lord of The Rings The Hunt For Gollum Movie 

It’s frankly something we don’t need and nobody, NOBODY wanted. We already have over 2 movies with a bunch of Gollum content. WHO really wanted to see a story on how Gollum was captured by Aragorn as a feature length film? We’ve seen major issues today with Hollywood: they have no good ideas left, and even when they bring the right people to work a project it does not guarantee success. The subject matter of this film makes it evident that Hollywood has no clue how to properly execute the Middle Earth IP anymore, and their announcement that they want more films here after HfG shows they need something. Hollywood isn’t our friend, they don’t care about good entertainment, they are a business like any other (they’re looking for $$$, which is fine, but we need to stop making a big deal about projects they’re taking on today). Yes, there have been some good products to come out of entertainment in recent years, but they are few and far between. I’d say there is around an 85% chance anything that’s announced for production will end up bad right now. Honestly, with the state of the entertainment industry, and the history of what we’ve gotten both with Rings of Power and the Hobbit (timelines aside, Jackson could not save that series, and it shows it can very well happen again), I just want Hollywood to leave Middle Earth alone. I am tired of seeing IPs I enjoy get demolished by modern writing/movie making (i.e., Star Wars, Star Trek, Wheel of Time, D.C./Marvel, Ghost Busters, etc.).

@@AntiDarkus I tried defending Rings of Power for as long as I could, but that show's issues are with the writing. It's another example of wasted potential, but for different reasons. I'm cautiously interested in War of the Rohirrim.

Peter Jackson was brought in late to work on The Hobbit, as he originally wasn't meant to work on it. The Hobbit films aren't the greatest but I think he did the best he could with such a tight time constraint. I think this time he won't have that constraint, which is more promising

​@@CapturedInWordsPeter Jackson isn't infallible though. It was Jackson's idea to make Hobbit into 3 movies. It was also Phillipa Boyens idea to add a love triangle with Legolas. 2 aspects which some would say spoiled Hobbit.

You know we barely get to see any stories from Lord of the rings ever and other franchises well, Star Wars makes movies and streaming series and Harry Potter is always starting over with a reboot. We barely get to see anything from Lord rings besides The two trilogy of the Lord of the rings and the hobbit and I’m already sick of you. People bashing on the rings of power as it is like we only get to see are these Lord of the rings projects and after like a trilogy or ends, we only we don’t get to see projects like these a decade for now like it’s now been a decade since the hobbit trilogy ended because I want to see more of the world of middle earth

Highly doubt it will be THAT good. The Hobbit trilogy was barely serviceable. Nothing since has been any good. They don’t have a lot of source material to go off of.

@@wordupninja The Hobbit is much better than other recent fantasy adaptations and as Jay said, Peter Jackson wasn't originally part of the Hobbit. He got brought on late but still had to meet the same deadline.

Regardless of the studio decisions to do stuff like turn a barely 200 page book into a trilogy, Jackson coming in later, etc. you have to acknowledge that this group is really only good at adapting existing source material, not adding to it. This Hunt for Gollum story does not have a lot of source material to it, so they’re going to have to fluff it up to make it a feature film. There are not a lot of good signs here and contemporary Hollywood trends do not bode well for this project.

While I agree that Hollywood is a mess right now, not everything being produced is bad. I'm sure this will be better than what Amazon is doing, and I think having Jackson, Serkis, and so many of the original writers is a good sign.

Maybe DEI could teach you how to spell.

@CapturedInWords i agree with you, but there will probably be someone with lots of power breathing down their necks saying "you need x, y, and z" and whatever those things are will make it impossible for the show to be good. It may possibly be okay, but not good.

@@CapturedInWords i disagree. Just having the “right people” involved in the project does not mean it will be good. Look at Doctor Who right now. It was failing for years, and with the most recent season, they brought back Russel T. Davies, who was the man responsible for New Who, catapulting it into insane levels of popularity in the modern era. Yet, he being onboard only further ruined the series and now fans are most disgruntled than ever. The fact of the matter is this new Gollum film has very little source material to base it on. We have seen Peter Jackson and crew do amazing things with products that have existing source material, but not so much with inventing new material. Jackson didn’t save the Hobbit trilogy after studio interference, and much of the filler he put into that mess was not that great. I love the Jackson LoTR franchise, I think it’s one of the finest points of cinema history and especially for book adaptations. That being said, this whole situation reeks of Hollywood being out of ideas, and wanting to milk another IP into the ground.
