Mike, I watched every minute of the whole series. It was so timely for my wife and I as we re-enter ministry after a long break recovering from the disabilities that hit our life like a wrecking ball when I survived a brain surgery that left me severely impaired. The church we planted from has gone full egalitarian, while we have discovered biblical complementarianism on our journey back to mental health and functioning. It has been particularly precious to us as my wife became a full-time caretaker and essentially single mom for YEARS and lost me as the head of our home. By God's grace and a real miracle (intentionally using that word) I'm back to being me, and have resumed my role in the family. As we enter the church, I needed Biblical clarity on how this should look in the structure and practice of the church. Grateful for your ministry, brother 👊🏼

Thank you so much for all that you do to get The Message out. I’ve listened to your first video on women in ministry and I was hooked! A few years ago, I was asked by my pastor to give a message for Mother’s Day at my church. I asked a family relative to pray, because I felt uneasy about it. She then begins to tell me that she could not pray for me because she didn’t believe that women should be speaking. This fired up a burn inside of me to understand that. I have seen women preach a message and I just felt that I wasn’t equipped to speak. I started googling women in ministry, and listening to different people give their opinion or biblical point of view. I started to see the light. Then I come across one of your videos. I loved how in depth you would study God’s Word and speak of it. I wanted more truth even if it was correcting the sin I was living in. I started searching your page for women in ministry and then I realized you were starting your journey in studying it. I am so thankful for you and your online ministry. I now want to know truth and follow God‘s Word.

As a Christian woman, wife of an teacher-elder and mom of four I am very interested in all of this (yes, even the bizarre details😅) but there would have been no way to go and do the research all by myself. I appreciate this, brother! And thanks for clearing up that churches where deacons are in a position of leadership, women should not be appointed as such. Our church is led by a plurality of elders, and deacons are in a position of assistants to the elders. I've listened to the whole series, little by little, over the past couple of years as I've cooked and cleaned for my family. I just have a desire to understand, to the best of my ability, what God is saying to us through Scripture. This has been incredible. I love having something for my mind and heart to chew on, mull over, and consider as I do household tasks to serve my family. This series has been an invaluable resource in deepening my understanding of what the Bible says about the role of women in ministry. I look forward to future studies!

I've got some sincere questions. I've listened to the entire series. All of it. I am very impressed with Mike's logic, knowledge, scholarship, humility, honesty. Everything. I think there are a lot of good arguments for complementarianism in these videos. I think I agree with most or all of it. In addition, I am a huge Mike Winger fan of several years. I am also a life long complementarian according to my personally held beliefs. However, I fail to truly understand how complementarianism should actually manifest in a marriage differently than egalitarianism. I am 60 years old and have been a conservative, Christian since age 19. I have been married to a Godly man for 40 years. Verbally, we say we are in a complementarian marriage. But I've been challenged to figure out how that could be proven observationally. My husband is humble, kind, loving, generous. All the good things. He loves and respects me deeply, as I do him. First Question: We make our decisions together. He has never trumped me with his complementarian authority. Why would he? Under what circumstances would we quit on our discussion and he make a decision I don't agree with? If the answer is any circumstance in which we just can not come to an agreement, my reply would be twofold. 1. That hasn't happened in 40 years. 2. My husband would not carry it out. He would simply keep praying and keep the discussion going. At some point, he knows we will agree and we always do. There is no bullying. No one sidedness. There is mutual respect and love, and a deep desire to put our precious relationship before our individual wants or needs and an even higher desire to follow the Holy Spirit. Why is the "tie breaker" idea in a Christian marriage even a thing? I do not understand it. Second Question: Even complementarians as harsh (I'll go so far as to say unbiblically oppressively to women) as John Piper agree that the trump card is to be used only rarely, so lets set that aside. In what other actual ways, on a daily basis, in a marriage, does the wife's obligation to submit manifest in the relationship? Everything I've heard complementarian teachers teach to either the husband or the wife are things BOTH spouses should do! A husband should make sure the family prays and studies the Bible. Well, so should a wife, right? And don't they just do this together? A wife should treat her husband with respect, and so should the husband treat his wife with respect. Can someone tell me actual ways in which a loving, healthy, complementarian marriage is supposed to be different from an egalitarian marriage?

I watched the whole series. Not only did I finally finish it, but I want to just comment that this has been a huge blessing to me. (And hopefully this can be an encouragement to you, Mike! 🤷‍♀️) My husband and I started listening to this series after I experienced a miscarriage. It might seem a bit strange, but God used these videos and your teaching to bring me out of my deepest mourning. I knew I needed to be in the Word, but I really didn't want to study any attributes of God, how loving He is, etc. I just needed some time to sit in the midst of my sadness. Going through the Bible and focusing on a topic that wasn't directly related to my suffering provided me with great relief and helped to bring me to a place of peace. So, thank you, thank you for your countless hours of research, for the countless hours of filming & editing, and all of the effort you've put into this behemoth! May God continue to bless you and this ministry!

I have watched the whole series on women in ministry. Member of the no skip club 😊. I have been watching from the beginning; it is hard to believe it has been two years. I am so thankful to have found a teacher who points to God's word instead of emotional heart strings. This teaching has helped me when I was leading a Bible study through 1st Timothy and helped me to work through my responsibilities as a pastor in training (I do meet the requirements of an elder). I have been working through what the authority of an elder is and what it is not. Church hurt is a big issue that deserves its own series, but I'm really excited for Hebrews. Thank you so much Mike. I've watched the whole series (most videos multiple times). I was at seminary during most of this time myself - came as an egalitarian from the Church of the Nazarene, met my husband there, a Complementarian. Honestly thought he was a discriminating a*hole at first because I had never met a complementarian before. And then I got to know him and realized he's actually a very respectful and kind man towards all women. Then I was reading a lot about it, watching your videos as soon as they came out and wrote two big essays/exegesis about Genesis 1-3 and 1Tim 2. Now we are at a Church of the Nazarene because apart from this topic and a couple other things we agree with them on most things. My husband wants to become ordained as an "pastor-elder" but they might actually not do that because he wouldn't try and get young women motivated and mentor them towards becoming elders. It's really disheartening and we often feel very alone so your series was almost like a comfort for us to know that we're not alone, crazy or discriminating. Thank you so much!

Thank you for all your effort with this teaching. I was a feminist and it ruined my life completely and my marriage. In short, I got tired of being in control, because it made everybody miserable. Only after becoming a Christian, I understood my role and now I love that my husband is the head of our family and I life daily to be his helper, all to the glory of God. If you read the scripture, you can not confuse it. It is extremely straight forward. Woman trying to to argue these basic points, are still trying to defend the self... the flesh. You will never find peace and joy with this attitude. Trust and believe the Word of God and crucify your flesh daily.

“It just means what it looks like it means.” Amen. As a woman who grew up secular and with feminist encouragement from my mother, I got saved in my late 20s. God has given me a faith and a worship of His Word and His Goodness to trust that what His Word says is true and good, no matter what that means for my role in marriage or my limitations in serving in ministry. But on top of that, the Biblical worldview of complimentary marriage and male eldership is a unique and powerful edict we all should be passionate to embrace and model for the world because it is a beautiful alternative to man made ideas of egalitarian and patriarchal type systems. Living biblically, submitted to Gods Word is God glorifying and self blessing.

As someone who has been accused of not studying deeply before concluding that I fall on the complementarian side, I have really appreciated this series. In fact, I DID study deeply, reading several books, many articles, and of course Bible passages to figure out God's will for men and women in marriage and ministry. That said, I continue to study and am always open to fresh information and thoughtful commentary in hopes that I will continue to grow in this area. But while I come down close to where you are (not the same spot on the spectrum, but...), I have been somewhat bothered that you are harsher with egalitarians than with patriarchists. A lot more damage has been done by the latter group than the former. I wonder if your reactions are shaped somewhat by being in California among far more egals than pats, whereas in the Bible belt (where I live), it's far more common to come across hard-core comps and pats who denigrate or dismiss women with their rhetoric and actions. Also, not being a woman, perhaps you haven't encountered that as much. As a woman in ministry (a teacher, not a pastor!), believe me, I've had plenty of negative feedback through the years from men who consider women less capable or worthy of consideration. And I've read so many messages from wives whose strong-comp/patriarchal husbands have treated them in a manner unworthy of Ephesians 5:23. I know you called out men on that, but it just doesn't feel strong enough. I'm praying that you'll use this wonderful platform to speak more boldly to such men and remind them that this isn't simply a peripheral matter but a core issue for many women. No, it's not about salvation, but it is about something God clearly cares about deeply: oppression. That needs to end. Yesterday. And forever. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this whole series! I have a person in my church (youth pastor, kind of) who thinks the "women be silent" verse is to be applied to the whole duration of service (I hope I'm using the correct term, english is not my first language). When I asked him how he thinks a woman should share a testimony or prayer request, he said that after sunday service is over, someone says "service is over, now xy has something to share with you all", and then a woman can share that. This confused me greatly, because why would the exact same setting with just a different name make a difference? I kind of knew his view couldn't be right, but had no idea on how to respond to him. Your videos cleared so much up for me! Now this person is not someone who makes the rules in my church, so no enforcing of something like that, but I have the feeling more people are turning into a similar direction... I hope I can share your videos with some of them

I've watched all of this series. Thank you Mike, Sarah and team for all your labor in this effort. It has been a tremendous, encouraging blessing to me. I have sat under several godly pastors who teach the Word diligently. Anytime this topic came up I was always left wanting...wanting more insight and understanding. I often felt like I was getting dismissed or apologized to from the pulpit. I do not begrudge my pastors for this...there is only so much that can be said in a 1-1.5 hour service. But this series has equipped me with understanding and appreciation for the absolute beauty of God's plan for men and women. Thank you again.

Watched every video. Great job. I admit I was a little concerned about where you would come down on this issue initially, but I knew you would handle the scriptures fairly and I'm so grateful for all the work you put into this.

Pastor Mike, I've watched it all. I"m SO grateful for your hard work and labour for the Gospel, and I believe God is honoured by your faithful stewardship. Your series has helped to clarify questions I've held in tension for years. I have gone back to the Scriptures and reviewed them as you've taught through them and have been so encouraged to see the loving truths left in the creation order and design God has established. It makes me love The Lord more as I see God's heart is for women. I assume my place and role in submission to Christ and my husband with joy and relief. YES, this should be a seminar! VERY valuable.

I listened to every hour! Didn’t even speed it up! Means a lot that you would pour over a topic that doesn’t apply to you as much as us women. Many men flippantly take their position as leader but don’t know why and don’t live out biblical leadership or consider women and their gifts. You’ve done the opposite. Thank you.

Thank you Mike. I cannot even fathom the amount of work you did in order to provide the other 12 videos and this summary video. God bless your efforts and use this information to at a minimum provoke deeper thinking and study for any who have questions or maybe even disagree. My church (Christian Missionary Alliance) now has a female Associate Pastor and are putting Women as Elders to a congregational vote soon. I feel so sad about the path the church is taking. This video is very helpful to me personally, based on the aforementioned.

Thank you brother Mike. I watched the whole episode. Thank you for summarizing everything so well, this is something that I didn’t understand myself. Now I have clarity and biblical understanding to know how to be respectful to the word into the Lord, and how to teach others without overstepping the word. I teach children’s ministry and have a love for discussing the scriptures with others, teaching, and learning like iron sharpens iron. This topic has been so confused by many in leadership, and I was raised with egalitarian as well. When I read the scriptures, I didn’t understand about many different topics, especially this one, the word has been interpreted so loosely in the churches I had attended. I never even thought to question it until I started really digging in a few years ago and and seeing such contentions and the culture just made me dig all the deeper to the word. When I would question those leadership around me did not have clear understanding with how to interpret the word. You have given such in-depth in the word, careful section by section teaching, and given me a rock on which to stand on. Thank you. I am very grateful for your brother and all of your teachings have been such a blessing to me. May God bless you and continue to give you spiritual wisdom and help guide us all in a dark world.

It's amazing to me the amount of scoffing and anger there is to this teaching, especially to people who probably don't know Winger's heart, hours of deep study, or never even listened to the arguments laid out throughout this series. I think back to the first video and my eyes have been opened to how often I and others have bypassed the Bible for whatever reason, I'm thankful that I now always use that as a check on myself. When this series started, I was a fresh baby Christian. Crazy to think that it's been two years since this series started and since I got saved! Thank you for always thoughtfully giving clarity on Biblical issues. Your ministry has been a HUGE part of my testimony and theological growth.

Grew up in a patriarchal messed up/abusive household. It breaks families apart- one certainly reaps what they sow in familial relationships. Thank you for your time and walking us through these 3 views. I am immensly fearful and stay away from patriarchal teachings bc of how easily twisted it becomes. Complementarian sounds based in more Biblical truth. Thank you for a part of God teaching me and calming my spirit over this topic. May God continue to bless you immensely!

I cried during your concluding prayer @mikewinger. As I’ve watched this entire series, I’ve had to struggle against my own pride & desires, my cultural mores, and my defensiveness against examples of abuse (which as you repeatedly say are wrong, ungodly & unbiblical, but they happen far too often). My heart breaks for our homes, our churches & our culture as we have fought against God’s beautiful design. May God forgive & heal us. And I can’t wait for Hebrews!!

I think overall this series made me realize that I probably had a “patriarchal” bend to my heart though I would’ve thought I had an Egalitarian bend. It also identified I probably have a lot of prideful thoughts and I hope to take some of these thoughts to positively encourage women in ministry more! ❤

Loved this series!! I also recently have moved into the role of being the worship leader at my new church, so I was super excited to hear your thoughts on this!! After I began headcovering, I came across a lot of patriarchal teachers who advocated that women couldn’t speak at all in a mixed congregation or study theology, etc. so hearing your dissection of all the different biblical passages has been super encouraging and helpful in establishing where I personally stand on this topic.

In our culture of insane egalitarianism bordering on matriarchy I can feel myself having to restrain myself from going the complete opposite direction. A lot of what Mike says about the scripture makes sense, even as I grid my teeth nodding along. I see Mike as a natural egalitarian that ended up in Complementarianism, and myself a reactionary patriarch moved into Complementarianism by scripture. If Mike bows to scripture so shall I. Also respect for having a nuanced view of scripture that will make both extremes dislike you lol, God bless you Mike for what it's worth I think you did well trying to walk the narrow path.

On getting married, I very much like the Dutch saying of 'hopping in the boat together.' I have always seen it like this. Every boat has a captain, which is the main authority. But any captain that does not accept advise or correction from his first officer/chief engineer/boatswain, will risk never reaching his goal, face a mutiny or even sinking the ship. He will have to take good care of his crew (family) if he wishes a smooth trip and will be able to face storms. No problem if my husband is the captain, as long as he is willing to take advise, especially on matters that others know more about.

I have watched them all! I grew up among a very strict patriarchal denomination. After coming to the faith at age 25 I wasn’t even certain if I could sing in church. In my 30s I felt the Lord had given me the gift of teaching and began serving in the youth ministry but I still had lots of questions about where I fit. This series has been immensely helpful and allowed me to walk more confidently in my calling of sharing Jesus with the kiddos! Thank you!

Mike, Suggestion: You often use the word “rules,” but I think you mean “norms.” Norms set the standard, but can always have exceptions, but exceptions don’t change the norm, that’s why you should use the word “normative.” When rules have exceptions, you have to create a new rule. Your explanations of Biblical standards that are flexible, but nevertheless instructive, but also adaptive would benefit from this usage of “norms” and “normative” instead of saying “rules” all the time. Because you frequently and awkwardly have to back away from the word “rules” because of exceptions. Just say “norms” and “normative” for Biblical standards that are instructive, and have an ideal, but yet are flexible and can be adaptive.

I watched it all. Thank you!! One thing that really stood out to me is the weight that my husband carries as the leader of our home. He has graciously led without complaint, with self-sacrificial love, and following the Lord's direction for our family, but I never really appreciated how difficult that must have been when he had to make big decisions that affected our children and me in big ways. I appreciate him more than I ever did before!

I still have one question that I didn't get answered after this series. Maybe I missed it but I was challenged by a friend when discussing this stuff and he asked me: "what is the fruit of not having women in these positions ?" Thank you Mike! Your work has really blessed me.

@MikeWinger I'm must admit I'm confused as to why it is ok for a woman to correct a man and teach him theology in private (with authority, if he listens to her, believes & changes because of what she says), she just can't do this in a publicly official capacity? Why not? Why does privacy matter? Why does unofficialness matter? Doesn't God see all?

I really appreciate all you’ve done, but I disagree on the tie breaker. I’ve been happily married for almost 30 years and we make our decisions equally. We’ve never needed a tie breaker. We decided how we would solve disagreements before we got married. We decided if we don’t agree, I pick the house, he picks the car, and we stayed near the grandparents, so no surprise moves and jobs to another state like has happened to my friends. We also decided that whoever got a job with the most money , then a move might be on the table, if the other spouse could stay home on the new salary. Since I made more a few years into our marriage, we were able to stay near family. When my husband wanted apply for a higher salary job farther away, I was in support. So it can work. You don’t need a tie breaker , if you take turns with final decisions. I had a friend whose husband joined the military as a surprise, no discussion. She had to keep moving every few years. This was not because he was out of a job. He just basically made all the decisions. I would have ended up divorced if I had ended up with a chauvinist.🤦🏻‍♀️

I just finished listening to this entire series - it took me 11 months to finish. Your thoughtful, careful analysis is an example to me and you helped me clear up my confusion on “women stay quiet”. Hi @MikeWinger. I have watched your series on women in ministry and have found 3 questions which remain unanswered and still rather puzzling to me. I'm interested in your responses to them: a) The WHY. The reasoning behind it... If God designed it this way from creation...Why do wives need to have men as an authority over them? If Jesus is an adequate authority over men (and the whole church), why do wives need an extra layer of authority over them? b) Why does God place limits on the types of service women can do in the church but not have any limitations for men? How can it be said that men and women have 'different roles', if men can serve in every way women can in ministry (just more)? That doesn't sound like different service, it sounds like limited service (based on gender). C) Women deacons are mentioned in 1 Tim 3:11 and you conclude that only the one verse relates to women. Why are the deaconesses not expected to have all the qualities that are required of male deacons? Why do male deacons have to be faithful to their wife but deaconesses not? This seems very strange considering in 1 Tim 5v9 - Paul expects enlisted widows to be a "one-man woman" (the female equivalent of a one-woman man). Why require it of widows but not deaconesses?

I would rather talk about ,What Men Cant Do. And let a woman present it.

I just have a couple of questions in response to your series as a whole: I've noticed you have not engaged with Terran Williams' in-depth, respectful articles and critiques of your series: not just his disagreements, but the feedback he has given for when you have misquoted or mis-cited biblical scholars. Why is this the case? You said you welcomed pushback, was there ever a plan to incorporate said pushback into this series? Also: Did you conduct formal interviews and dialogue with complementarians / egalitarians when conducting your research?
