I guess the hooptie fleet has gotten less hooptie, but for most of my adult life it was much like this. I'm a lover, though, not a fighter... but not beneath kicking someone in the plums and running away when threatened.
I'm not even a Porsche fan really but that 944 really put a smile on my face. It's from a good year (i.e. the year I was born), great design - completely timeless. I don't care what you do to it, but I'd love to see more of it!
As a topgear fan, i remember the funny topgear support group sketch alex made when clarkson left the bbc, and the guys at car throtlle filled in that gap clarkson left before starting the grand tour. 6-7 years later seeing alex start an all new channel is really inspiring. Top notch content, godspeed mate, love from India
@@saqz11 bmw's are renowned for spitting metal everywhere inside the engine when you actually give them some rag over a long period, so many twats with lowered bits of unbadged garbage that blow a hole when they spin there tires in a empty tesco carpark in the summer. same as these little tinfoil fiesta's from ford. With 1ltr engines and a can of coke turbo and people think they have 230hp cause of a remap and they blow bits of it apart in no time cause of nothing being built to last.
I love your taste in cars. And your mod selection. Awesome! Personally, i want to see more of everything! Cleaning, servicing, fixing stuff, restoration. And of course, road trips (like challenges, Nürburgring etc) would be amazing. Keep doing what you do
Yes more 944 content!!! Wasted spark ignition, cam and remap gets them over 200 brake. And they really respond well to chassis mods, transformed my buddy’s 83 944 (bushes etc)
Love the car collection Alex so much better than if it was Ferraris and Lamborghinis etc. relatable car collection. Well done Alex love the channel always
The 944. Broke my heart when you said it didn’t handle well etc….. do it some justice, mate, and get her fully sorted. Won’t take much money. Good coilovers, wider wheels and grippy tires, suspension overhaul and brakes before a tickle on the engine…. Keep it standard n subtle on the outside.
Old cars are the best, I have a e60 535d with 175,000 miles on it, recently dyno'd at 390hp and 810nm and a clio 182 which I absolutely love. I've tried owning newer cars but the older stuff is so cheap and easy to repair and maintain. One day I'll have a fleet like yours! Can't wait for more videos!
Feel you, I've had a 98 audi as my newest car, went straight back to late 80s cars afterwards. Older is a lot more straight forward and easier to keep an eye on to make sure they are reliable
Yes!! This is awesome. In the Netherlands it is impossible to own a fleet of shitboxes. Both use and ownership of cars are taxed heavily. Good for you Alex 💪🏼
more 944! whatever fun things you wanna do with it I'd love to see as a 944 driver myself. If you want to do some youtube type stuff with it check out the lindsey racing maf conversion kit, adds horsepower and reliability
I love a 944. As a teenager, there was a black Turbo owned by the local mechanic and it looked cool as heck and sounded amazing, so I will always be there for 944 content, and it's a car that's getting rarer every day; and just like the good old Mk2 MX-5, the 944 made such good daily drivers that a lot are so high mileage they're past saving, and the ones that are still in driveable state are worth a fortune.
i love OEM+ if it's done well, But original is indeed where the character is usually at. Kind of a hard choice if one had to choose between those two option. At least for me it is. Any of them could be cool to see though
Fred looks great. I’d love more of these 944s. I’d focus on history, maintenance and common issues of these more than modding. It’s a car we all wish we owned but are too scared of costs and maintenance when you have a wife to explain it to. 😊
Great collection. Who wants to enjoy cars? Lots of people too chicken to own a high miles ones and miss out on their dreams. Mate of mine owns a 924 which he’s made into a carrera gt homage. It has a 968 engine, the right gearbox and goes like stink! I drove it for a while when it was a 2.5. Went to Le Mans my first time in it. It was white with a St. George’s cross all over it, the French loved that as did a football crowd that I got stuck in. It drove old school back then and I loved the fact that it wasn’t quick but was great fun at sensible speeds. Keep up the high miles fleet, more people need to do this, when they’re gone who’ll have missed out? More power to you👍🏁
I really really really want to see more of the 944. Maybe some wheels, suspension and maybe some surprises. Can't wait to see what you are planing for the next episode.
Gotta love a high mileage hero 👌🏻 we definitely need to see more of the 944 but what about doing a road trip down memory lane in it to the dealership your mum got her 944 from and maybe to Stuttgart?
Best mods I've found in my decade of ownership: Twin pot calipers off an accord type r bolt directly on 4.77 final drive out of a kia sportage, makes the car much more drivable and punchy UK 38mm mod on standard exhaust Lots of others, but these are cheap and cheerful!
Old tensioner can't compensate a very stretched out chain and that's the noise there . The new one will do the trick for a short while . Without changing the chain is just usless
ABSOLUTELY bring out the Porsche. I think a lot of us watch you for your enthusiasm of the cars you own, not necessarily a specific style of car Do what you love and we'll love it
Probably has fleet or motor trade insurance mine is around 1200 a year for up to 10 personal cars and then am insured in anyone elses that is in my care up to 50k value.
Maaaan Barney is a real looker ain't he? I've organised my life in such a way I don't NEED a car anymore but it's stuff like this that almost convinces me to make a questionable financial decision.
Why in the world would you organize your life like that? I usually make decisions, so I have an excuse to do an awesome road trip or buy myself a new motorcycle for example! Enjoy it while you still can, before we all drive electric lawn mowers.
The 944 is a cracking motor, of course we'd love to see more of it on the channel! Personally, I'd love to see the car rejuvenated, give it the fountain of youth treatment. It's been around a long time and like an aging popstar, things have probably began to "loosen and sag" and has started to wheeze when walking up some stairs, so why not give it a true once over and overhaul the car, replace any bits that might be aging and give the car back some of its stiffness, give back some youthful exuberance and maybe give it a few more SUBTLE horses to make the car feel like its fresh off the assembly line! We don't need mad stance, it doesn't have to be lowered or spaced or have a HUGE blow off valve in it, but enough grunt to really give it those Porsche leg's once more!
Loved this video, Alex. These cars are more interesting to me, than the newer more expensive stuff. I would love to see more on the Porsche, I’m sure there is a lot of love for it. I get the same feelings when I see cars similar like my father used to own, when I saw a kid. I get most excited about the e31 8 series. Are the latest Range and E60 a part of the fleet too? Cheers
Absolutely love the 944’s, I drove one on slicks with everything in the suspension done. It was on ground control coilovers and completely gutted. What an experience an absolute drivers car.
Aside from the GTRS3 the 944 is probably my favorite, even with it being called the "poor man's Porsche" i still think it looks better than any others, that wedge shape just gets me
I really want to see more of the 20v Turbo and the 944 very unique and different to the usual stuff you see on RU-vid maybe you and Taylor should take both of your 20v turbos to the Nurburgring and see who can set a faster lap time
Loving the 944 mate,it always reminds me of Clarkson's story about using his, back in the day to go see his dying dad in his last moments... Also please DO NOT scrap Phil,as he looks proper and with all the time and money spent on him,he's well worth keeping!
I don't think he is going to Scrap Phil, he was just screwing us. By the way, the Porsche that Jezza used in both challenges (Porsche and V8) was the 928, James used the 944 in the Porsche challenge.
These people in Uk pay taxes for the cars that are driven not on what they own. If things were the same in my country i would have owned at least 5 cars.
I appreciate you. Bravo for the choices made with the cars. I proceeded somewhat similarly with the cars and I also have a similar number that require attention and they each have something to say. mr2, c140 cl500, 2x190E, TT 8n awd, citroen Oltcit and a c5, ex father car a6 c5 1.8t.
Absolutely bloody sterling line up, old boy. Subtle mods on the 944 is definitely the way forward, one wouldn’t want to go spoiling a classic. Keep up the great work on the channel, I’m getting a vibe of Hoovies Garage about this..superb.
That 944 is absolutely most definitely the bestest car in the fleet. Some super subtle mods and some in keeping wheels would be cool! Oh, and maybe air? 🤷🏼♂️. Guards red on any Porsche is killer in my opinion. Great channel and some awesome not shit, shit boxes.
I wanna see more of the Porsche, my uncle who was my best friend had one about 10 years ago, I'm gonna be 20 next month. Anyways he bought it about 10 years ago and in 2014 all he had to do was insure the car and fit his new speakers which were on his table at home, he unfortunately passed away and it was my dream to sit in the car with him and enjoy it. I wanted to see him drive it and enjoy it, it was a gun metal grey one with colour matching wheels. It was sold to someone in Ireland a short while after he passed away as the family couldn'tdo anything with the car like store it or they didn't have the need to use it, but I wish I had the money to find it and buy it back. I miss it.
A lot of people love the 944 so up for seeing more .. but there's nothing wrong with it to fix! I really want to see all the DIY detail work on the fiat though. There's always more detail fixes than I can keep up with even though I have only two cars...
Love the channel to bits. So many interesting cars. -the 944, maximise the nostalgia factor. Do whatever it takes to maximise the childhood memories. -s2000 , agree with oem+ -fiat, basically the same. Looks should be kept the same, definitely keep the blue colour. Just some enhancements to keep it running to the best of its ability. -x5 and volvo: these are workhorses. Nothing special needed, do what it takes to keep them running and rack up them miles. Just like horses or dogs: some are for show, some are for prancing around. But no, not these. These just want to work and work and work. Thats when they are happiest , keep them doing that. -bmw and phil: these are your joyboxes. Im not gonna say what to do with them besides telling you that you should do to them what makes you happy. That’s what they are for so do what gives you the biggest smile
What about a load of luxury mods to the Volvo? Extra leg room in the back, recliner massage seats, mini fridge, aftermarket/fabricated electric blinds etc etc or something like the Mercedes cottage a la top gear?
Porsche 944 Subtle stainless exhaust system Performance panel filter Lowered 911 18” twist alloys and spaced for fitment Interior clean up and resto where needed 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
just love that you've bought that 700k volvo!! After seeing your half a million mile A4 I had a look and this volvo was one I found in classics worlds, and what a story! Can't believe it's now getting some tlc from you, Awesome stuff!!
When I was young, the man who lived 2 doors up the street had a black 944 S2. Such a cool car. Took me out for a ride in it with my Dad and I fell in love with Porsche that very same day. Not too long after that, his house was raided by the Police and he was arrested for dealing cocaine. Seemed like an alright dude to me.
Alex stay in this motoring zone, don’t go any bigger/expensive with the cars. You have a collection that we would like ourselves but as others have said too nervous to step into. High mile high original quality motors is where you should sit as we can all relate easily to your content.
FRED FRED FRED!!!!! Make it OEM+ and do some European trips (alps etc). Do lots of content on that car as it is a proper appreciating classic and just looks Uber cool!
I don't particularly care what cars you show (although I am a big fan of the fleet), I watch your videos for your personality and humour! I'm sure you could make driving round in a cardboard box look interesting
Had an E53 and loved it. Also has an S2000 in the same blue as yours and lived that too!! Now have an E46 330ci, E64 645ci and a RR L322…..I’m building my fleet of old but golds like yourself 😊
Just finished watching this video and then whilst driving down the M4 past Bridgend in work, you pull on to the motorway behind me in the red X5 towing Phil. I cannot believe the coincidence!
Fantastic stuff Alex and what a lineup. I only found your channel in the last few weeks but have been binging the videos and its just so amazing to see someone with such genuine passion and love for their cars. I recently changed cars myself going from a Hyundai Coupe to a Jaguar XE which would be my first, dare I say, powerful car 240bhp compared to the 140(ish) of the 2lt coupe. I fully get the love and passion for otherswise unwanted rust boxes, my main hobby is a bit different in that I collect vintage computers but there is something delightful about having that vintage piece of equipment be it a computer or car or whatever and giving it the love it deserves. I'd love to see you restore the Porsche but throw some period correct mods at it. The S2000 is a car I've always love the shape of and the 9000 rpm redline... can you do something to make that scream out, maybe an induction kit or the likes. Either way I'm sure you'll do it proud, in fact since this video is 4 months old you've probably already done it. Don't suppose you want to buy a Hyundai Coupe to add to your garage of rust 🤣 Keep up the good work.
Oh you complete sod, you have just made me do a rash purchase of my 2nd Fiat Coupe 20vT almost 20 years since I last owned one. Absolutely loved the car way back when and that sound when you floored it, brought it all back in a flash, am sure I got a wiff of the damp AC at the same time. Im driving 392 miles to go look at it. I will let you know the outcome 😉
What a Dream collection. I might swap the BMW 's for some boxy Volvo' s myself, but otherwise... More 944! The 944 is the only Porsche I'd ever want to own. I almost bought a 1986, but the day before we would have sealed the deal we found out my wife was pregnant. Child seats in a 944 are a nightmare, so we got a nice Volvo 360 GLT. Also with a 4 cylinder and a transaxle like the 944...
Do not mess that 944 Alex. Aesthetically it needs nothing other than those understated original looks, just sort the interior trim out put an original Porsche steering wheel on and you are good to go. Look after it and it will be a very shrewd investment 👍
I'm so glad you're still so down to earth with your car collection. So many RU-vidrs who start out with shit boxes suddenly make the switch to Lambos and their channel is just one big "flex" after that. Also, the X5 is just a brilliant car. I love mine...until I have to fill it up with fuel 😂
It's killing me that I can't let you take my Coupé for a spin. It made 450bhp recently and is fully stripped out with a roll cage and bucket seats now. Quaife, coilovers, braces all over the place. Still a few more jobs to be carried out before I can paint the interior, but after that... Maybe next spring 👍🏻 I also love how barely anyone comments on it. No one gets them until they've driven one. There are some very basic mods that will make it come to life. An updated rear ARB is night and day for example.
