Everything wrong with my Isuzu Vehicross. Well, not everything. This thing is garbage but I love it!

The Isuzu Vehicross is iconic. I think you should restore it, even if just piece by piece and record your progress. That would be a good reason for fellow enthusiasts to subscribe... I'm subscribing. I really, really hope you fix it up.

I ended up doing a bunch of work to it and sold it. It was a really fun vehicle but I decided to go another way.

1 oil quarter / 150 miles is excessive, that's the first thing I'd fix.
@PoorMansParadise
@PoorMansParadise 2 года назад
Unfortunately it’s common with the earlier 3.5 especially at interstate speeds. Only fix is a full rebuild with the updated piston rings or a motor swap from a 2001 (I think) or newer. If I keep it under 65 oil consumption goes way down to about a quart every 1000 miles or so .. I can live with it. It’s hard going cross country with speed limits at 80 out in South Dakota though as it really starts burning through the oil at an obscene rate.

They're super cool rare odd machines .I have a 99 iron Man 3.5 l second engine with two droped cylinders due to bad injectors washing out the cylinders . Original 111,000 miles . Still thinking about dropping my 500+ horsepower n/a forged internals LS1 in but you got to change everything literally. Probably make it way too fast . Might just go for a YJ Jeep ,So much more module

Thanks for watching! It will be back on the channel soon I’m going to start going through it and make some repairs. A little background on it I basically saved it from going to the junkyard a few years ago. I paid about 3 grand for it and it was in very bad shape. I Did just enough repair work to it to make it a safe/reliable trail rig new rear diff, shocks, changed all fluids at that time and gutted the interior and cleaned it to try and get the stink out of it. It’s not worth taking to a shop you’d quickly have more into it than what’s it’s worth. So next step is to fix the electrical problems, I’m going to remove the terrible body lift someone put in snd put a suspension lift on it. Weld in new metal in all the rust holes and get it back on the road! Hope you stick around and watch the progress it should be interesting !

Garbage???????? How so?
@PoorMansParadise

At the time it was essentially mechanically totaled. It needed more work than it was worth. It was burning lots of oil, had fuel issues, suspension issues and more. I took my time with it and fixed the majority of the problems. Ended up selling it last year. Fun truck to own though. If I had more room to store it I would have kept it.

Thats awesome! Love to see some pictures of it! They are a great suv! Mines just in really rough shape since one of the previous owners really hacked things up on it. I plan to go through it this year and try and get a few things fixed on it!

Hi great video ! How is the overall reliability in 3.5 engine and transmission , I’ve heard they have some common problems, is this true ? Thank you.
@PoorMansParadise
@PoorMansParadise 2 года назад
Yep, the transmission is a general motors transmission known for issues. I’ve been luck this far and haven’t had a problem. The early 3.5 motors had problems with burning oil due to a piston ring design issue. The oil drain back holes plug up and they start burning an obscene amount of oil. I think they fixed that in 2000 or 2001.

@@PoorMansParadise cool I like the garage and the trees around it looks cool. Thinking of getting Vehicross as well. Searching for a good one.. some like 20k? Worth it?
@PoorMansParadise
@PoorMansParadise 2 года назад
Tough call. They are very cool but have their setbacks. GM transmission which is prone to failure . The early ones like mine also burn an obscene amount of oil. Also they are getting a hard to find parts for and some shops won’t work on them. If you’re not a member of the Facebook vehicross page I’d join that. Lots of good resources there.

YOU DON'T DESERVE THAT MACHINE....DEFEATISM IS A SIGN OF WEAKNESS
@PoorMansParadise
@PoorMansParadise 2 года назад
🤣. I’m Going to start a minor restoration on it this summer and fix the rust holes. I’ll go through and rebuild the front end as well. I’m leaving the motor as is and will just do a tune up and keep dumping oil in it. I’ll need to adjust the bands in the transmission as well since it’s starting to act up a bit. So you’ll be seeing more of it on the channel once I get caught up on some other projects!
