I go through all the problems and issues I've noticed since owning my Boxster. First Boxster video in this series: • Why I Bought Another P... For business enquires please contact team@road-and-race.co.uk
You can get replacement buttons for the radio and climate control. Itll be a far better job than DIY and they arent too costly. Keys similarly you can get replacement shells, they wont be silver but theyre fine. Dont forget to swap over the immobiliser 'lozenge' in the old casing as this will prevent the car from starting. Its about the size of a grain of rice and easily missed. A really good upgrade i did on mine was to fit a GT3 master cylinder. Youll need to bleed the ABS system afterwards so make sure you have a diagnostic tool that can do this and combine it with a set of goodridge lines. Made a massive difference to the brake pedal feel on my S. AC condensers get punctured easily so they will likely need replacing and youd be wise to fit a set of zunsport or similar grilles to prevent it happening again. The oil leak is most likely the RMS. These cars also suffer with gearshift cables becoming disconnected, which stranded me in 5th gear one night on the way home. You can buy a set of clamps to prevent that reoccurring.
@@AB0BA_69 there was a big 'dead' area of the pedal before fitting it, almost like nothing was happening until 2/3 of the way down. Apparently a common Boxster/Cayman trait. Now the pedal starts to bite immediately when pressed. It provides much more confidence when coming up to junctions and behind other cars.
My boxster AC was leaking from the joint on the floor at the rear of the sill , it's quite easy for tyre fitters to catch it with the jack and it only has one bolt holding it together, the allen bolt will 100% snap but just drill it and use a nut and bolt , I just doubled up the O ring in the joint with new ones and it's been fine , worth checking before splashing out on a pair of condensers for the front , the AC oil is normally visible or get a cheap kit from e Bay with the dye and uv torch as it may already have been dyed so may be visible Great content as always
Some speakers tend to degrade over the years simply because of the material choice of the membrane. If one is rattling, i'd personally recommend replacing the lot all at once. Since the others are likely to be close to going too.
Very excited to see how this progresses. I've watched the channel from your 986 days and now have my very own 987.1 Cayman. So all of this is very familiar to me. For the buttons and controls, there is a US option for metal versions. Also, my rotary knob didnt work so well but a bit of contact spray helped.
Great buy! I looked at these but decided on something similar but more S54 flavoured. The Boxster/Cayman is such a good platform though and miles more precise than my Z4M but I’m a sucker for a yob car. 😅
I always felt the steering wheel was too thin so I had mine re trimmed in alcantara along with the gear stick and gator. And they made the driving experience all the better especially as was not too expensive
@fahadhussin6612 Is it a genuine YOSH? obviously make sure the magnetic base is pushed onto your vent as far as it will go, I have one in 3 different cars, my son also has one and not once has it pulled the base from the vent, the magnet supplied by YOSH is the perfect strength, are you using a stronger magnet on your phone?
Acetone / Nail polish remover will remove the sticky buttons, you will replace the head unit which should solve the issue in the long term. Good buy. Still miss your 350z reviews, i guess keep the car stock with a few tweaks here and there.
I used WD40 to sort the stereo buttons. If you don’t have the BOSE you can direct replace the stereo. Heater controls you can buy replacements. It’s not too bad to replace them either. Check the fuse for the seat and the connectors underneath - easy fix. Check the front rads haven’t got leaves caught in them- as they rot out the A/C.
Nice one Neil, looking forward to seeing you tackle these ‘small’ jobs. Hoping they are all easy enough fixes for you. What about an exhaust, that not first on the list?
Makeup remover wipes are the safest and best way to remove sticky gunk off buttons. There's a good RU-vid video showing the technique on jaguar sticky buttons.
when s Neils on the job...we know its going to be done Properly.. the sticky buttons has something to do with the oils in the skin/fingers...and this eventually happens.. Isoprop a-hol is probably not the best to use....it dries rubbers plastics out.. wd40 or some kind of dry ptfe maybe better.. N x
I believe there’s no coding required. Google it - Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus. It came out last year and is super sweet and also oem! It’s not cheap but is installable at home or at main dealer. I have a 330d 2009 and installed CarPlay lately using a non oem module, it’s transformed my car into a brand new car!
@@RoadandRacetvIt's a very expensive solution and the wiring install is a pretty big headache. I recommend installing a BT through-pass (sits between the head unit and other components). Just make sure to isolate the wires to avoid electrical interference noise on them.
Love to see a Boxster back on the channel. I found a good fix for the AC buttons are some replacements off Ali Express. I bought some for mine and they only cost a few quid. :)
The "sticky stuff" is the deteriorating "soft touch" plastic coating. You can try stripping that coating with an "anti goo" or even rubbing alcohol, but know that the knob will look different. You can try to find OEM replacements, but my experience doing that for a 986 was that a single know was listed for $40-50. Instead, I recommend trying to find a 3D printed solution or just replacing the headunit entirely with something like a Continental. It's black so will stand out a bit from the silver trim, but the company makes excellent modern understated (i.e. no rainbow lights) headunits with BT.
if you want to regain your popularity and and income, i suggest you get something interesting BACK on the channel, you seem like a well educated guy and "look" financially secure, so your either doing this for fun or fortune ? UNFORTUNATELY the cars you like and feature on your channel don`t attract the yoof of today, innit, so you need a beemer again or something more interesting than your current porch, this is my OWN personal opinion, and opinions are like arseholes, we all have one.................😏😏
