So many people complain about Rouge saying "Five minutes is plenty" when mentioning the time limit of Security hall You do know Eggman told Shadow to set the BOMB for 15 minutes.....to BLOW UP the island..... If she took the 15 minutes to get the chaos emeralds, then she would have blown up with the island. 5 Minutes to get the emeralds, 10 minutes to meetup with Eggman/get the fuck off the island.
My only gripe with that sentiment is that she says “5 minutes should be plenty,” AFTER Eggman tells Shadow 15 minutes on the bomb. She doesn’t specify 5 minutes for the emeralds, she’s implying she only needs 5 minutes on the bomb’s timer.

I always thought he said "created..." instead of "could he?". that would be more of a reference to how he thinks about shadows being as a whole and that shadow says that sonic might be the real ultimate life form(as shadow was based on super sonic, but the characters do not know that)
25:12 the first prototype was based on the perfect chaos mural found in the mystic ruins but it failed so the other option was the supersonic mural which is why shadow looks the way he does

"A fake Emerald" is so much better, in English, because the one used is so...roundabout, unnatural. Did an English team do the writing? Or did any natural English speakers read over the translations provided by Japanese writers? Doesn't seem like it.
+PokeMaster22222 In the final story, in the cutscene that plays after you defeat the Biolizard, once the lizard will use Chaos Control Shadow will say "Is that what...Chaos Control is?" which is ALSO a translation error (I don't remember now what he said in the japanese version though)
There's actually a potential sin I wanna bring up here; rewind to Gerald Robatnik's execution, he announces his entire plan for revenge before a shooting squad and not a singe one decided to think: "Maybe I should tell my superiors to investigate the Ark for ANYTHING he just said" sure he was a raving lunatic by the time they killed him, but given that he actually headed to the Project Shadow you'd think that'd warrent enough credibility to at least double check his threats...

A G.U.N. soldier or the commander? So they just decided, "Who wants to see this footage, let's just send it to ARK so no one can find out what happened. Who cares what Gerald said? He was insane. It's not like anything he said is important. Let's just destroy his existence."? If that's the case, that's one irresponsible, naive and disorganised army.

@Daniel von Strangle To be completely fair, I agree with some of these theories but as I was reading your points I came up with this: Maybe, the reason all of that was possible was because Shadow set it all up he did say he some how "reprogrammed" The ultimate life form which we assume to either mean Shadow or bio-lizard. Given Shadow was on earth it seemed more likely for it to be him. Also he was a "secret government project" few knew about so in reality it wouldn't be too hard to believe in his time off camera (which is quite a lot actually) he could have set all of this up. Also explains his change of heart near the end maybe it was temporary brain washing or something that caused him to want to go through with such a plan though that seems like a stretch. Anyhow that's my take on the whole execution projection and arc kamikaze thing.
the part with Shadow seeing Maria and Rouge actually makes sense. He was sort of comparing the two, seeing Rouge as a girl in a dear-death situation that made her helpless, just like Maria

If anyone is wondering about the sin at 26:30, I have a guess about what sonic was mumbling about. If you play the final battle against the Final Hazard, there is a 5 min limit before you fail the battle. But if you play up to the 4 minute mark, Shadow will say something along the lines that he believes the ultimate lifeform is actually Sonic.

Absolutely! I love this game to death but it's clear to me that the game has aged too much. I want this sound design cleaned up so people can truly appreciate the story as it was meant to. A graphical update would also be great as well. If only the original voices came back for the game however I think a good sound mixer would be enough
After rewatching this, I only now had realized something, if Tails was smart enough to create the weaker version of the Chaos Emeralds, why hasn't he made more in the event they need it? Now you could argue that they are too weak to go super, but I'll argue that if Tails at least made 1 Sonic could use Chaos Control to solve some issues, this also goes for Shadow in the event they don't/can't find the chaos emeralds, like in Sonic Forces where if they had these fake emeralds, they could have fooled Eggman, which to quote Tails "Even a machine can't tell the difference" and the only reason Eggman knew it was a fake was because Tails slipped up. Plus they have enough energy to counter the actual emeralds. Also they are strong enough to be used multiple times as soon with Sonic, even after Chaos control it clearly isn't shattered or broken. TL;DR, Why doesn't Tails just make more fake emeralds so that they have more access to Chaos based moves? IT is made clear all you need to do is see the damn move as sonic preforms Chaos Control only seeing it once or twice. Plus this could work as an alternate power source of Tails' invention Literally the main characters would only benefit from making fake emeralds more often. What if they need a real emerald to make a copy? Go find the emerald? I mean they've found them plenty of times so just find one

I think the only excuse I can think is hard to mass produce them or in some moment Tails forgot the plants of making one but either way would still get a pretty good advantage but...How Tails created these fake emeralds? If he was doing this years, then it would make sense for Eggman to create a emerald detector to find out which one is fake. And okay, fair it probably took him a large chunk of time to create one. But my counter point is- It wouldn't/shouldn't stop him from making a set, it isn't like Eggman is attacking them every moment, even with the timeline being- no so straight forward the games do have down time between them. I heard the Sonic/Shadow mix up explained like this: Sonic was the only anthropomorphic super powered hedgehog they knew about. And since Shadow had similar powers, and since Sonic could have gotten new shoes, changed his quill style, and painted himself new colors they figured it was Sonic. Why would he have changed his colors and looks, you ask? As a disguise or something... Idk. I still think the mix up is ridiculous, but that explanation made it seem a little more sensible.
Honestly I don't have a problem with this at all sonic 06 Amy confuses silver for sonic. She confuses the werehog for sonic (even though he technically was sonic) he'll tails even confuse classic sonic for modern sonic even though classic sonic is shorter and chubbier at least the sonic series is consistent with the confusion of other characters. Which makes this set of events less agregous. Also shadows initial concept was to literally be a reflection of sonic, and they were supposed to look pretty much exactley like eachother with the quills and everything you can even see in concept art in Google images if you want. That's why sonic and shadow say they look exactley alike. I'm assuming they changed the design so he can be more of his own character also be more appealing (cuz the old design kind of looked ugly) I think this change was smart at the sacrifice of it being odd. EVEN than though I still can buy this in every way, spiderman gets the black symbiote and everyone still recognizes him as spiderman albeit with a new costume. This could be similar to that.
when they were writing that part of the script, they were working with Terios - who looks a lot more like Sonic. they later switched the mirror character to Shadow, but they didn't think {or just didnt have the time} to change the plot to fit a character that looks different

Shadow: is that what chaos control is? I remember reading online somewhere that line was just a bad translation and Shadow was supposed to say "Was that chaos control?", which makes a lot more sense than his original line (since he was asking if the Biolizard had just used chaos control).
To highlight the dialogue issues: One, characters interrupt each other constantly because this game was made with Japanese dialogue in mind; listening to the Japanese actors makes the conversations flow more smoothly and is also why something like Maria is spelled, “Ma-Ri-A.” is used instead of “M-a-r-I-a” since the former is how you do so in Japanese Katakana. And two, barely hearing the characters at all is due to the music drowning out the character voices and this is most apparent in the HD version of SA2 Battle. While the original Dreamcast and even the GameCube versions still have this problem, it’s not nearly as bad and I recommend the GameCube version since its controller just feels so natural for it; though the HD version can also be modded to have a certain randomizer, so yeah.
The biggest problem I have with this game is the overpowered background music over the voice acting. Also, damn, this is the darkest Sonic game to date.
Actually, After Perfect Chaos was defeated by Super Sonic, the Station Square government might have found one of the Emeralds after Sonic was done with them and rewarded it to Tails for stopping Eggman's nuke.
Nope, Knuckles has 6 when Chaos 6 is beaten, the 7th is actually mounted to the front of the plane Tails used to fly himself and Sonic onto the Egg Carrier which ends up crashing into the Mystic Ruins Forest when Big the Cat flies it from the Egg Carrier to the forest. So Station Square government never had a Chaos Emerald at all. Sega messed up the story and didn't notice it.
Oh, also maybe the reason Shadow fell and Sonic didn't was some DBZ stuff. Sonic has gone super before but this is Shadow's first time.Maybe Sonic's learned how to use his power more efficiently so he can last longer.
You do realized that the English Voice lines are in sync with the Japanese Voice lines and the Japanese Lines are shorter, which is why some English lines are interrupted or cut off.

Gerald researched the ancient echidna tribe so he likely saw the mural of Perfect Chaos in the Lost World of Mystic Ruins so he made Artificial Chaos and eventually used Perfect Chaos as the basis of the Biolizard. When the prototype proved to be a flop he used the mural of Super Sonic located in the Hidden Palace as the basis for Shadow.

Actually, it's because they never re-synched the acting for the English dub. The back and forth translation IS responsible for stuff like Shadow shouting "Is that what Chaos Control is!?" instead of "Was that Chaos Control!?" and all of the Japanese shouting being carried over into English like Sonic shouting "Teriah", Eggman using "Yosh" and Knuckles using "Oraoraora"
This was my favorite game when I was younger and my first GameCube game alongside Animal Crossing. Played it again recently in 2014. Never gets old to me.

The reason Sonic didn't die but Shadow did is because Shadow put all of his effort and energy into stopping it, whereas Sonic couldn't be assed saving anyone and only went about half power. Shadow done all the work and died as a result. Heck, Sonic even lets go when Shadow goes all out, just like "eh, he's tryharding now so I'll just leave it to him." And didn't Shadow take off his Inhibiter Rings? That's probably how Sonic got them but not Shadow. Also, We have seen Sonic fall from space and land face-first into the ground without so much of a bruise, are we really supposed to believe Shadow would die from that fall when he's actually *stronger* than Sonic?!
+Darth Dood I thought he did die? He Just got replaced by a variety of clones and robots which is why He has no memory at then start of every game because hes actually a different Shadow replica... although it is implied that one of them might be the real Shadow
10:38 I think that the whole flashback had to do with Shadow's promise to Maria before she died. In Sonic X, Shadow promised Maria, during her final moments, that he would protect the people of Earth. Therefore, the flashback triggered. I know this is late, but whatever.
So I know it's been years, but I come back to this every once in a while because it's fun. But I just had a funny thought... Totally should have had a bonus round for every cutscene with Big the Cat. And every obvious stage appearance.
That thing about the Echidna Tribe - It's supposedly called the Knuckles Tribe (coincidence, right?) and had been gone for 4000 years according to a dead echidna named Tikal. Knuckles is one of the few descendants.
For Sin #162 and #163, that is actually one of Shadow's inhibitor rings, and when he removes them, he is granted extreme power, but much shorter stamina. When Shadow fell to Earth, Sonic most likely found the ring and gave to Rouge as a gift to remember Shadow. And the reason that Sonic survived and Shadow didn't is because Sonic didn't use all of his remaining energy (damn main character immunity. xD). And like I said before, Sonic didn't fall because Shadow removed the inhibitor rings, which means more power but less stamina.
