During the Duel with Yugi and Kaiba, The reason why spells could be activated on their opponents turn even though they weren't quick-play spells was because on Kaiba's first turn he activated Spell Sanctuary, which allows them to add 1 spell card to their hand and has the continuous effect allowing them to activate spell cards on their opponents turn. The English dub decided this wasn't an important detail to mention for some reason but it was mentioned in the Japanese dub.

Next time when my opponent attacks me for game, I'm just going to make really loud noises so his monsters can not hear his command.

Blame 4Kids for making Kaiba so unbelievable. In the Japanese version Kaiba does accept that Magic is a thing and is part of their lives 4Kids for some reason completely forgot that Kaiba can apparently grow as character. I love snarky Kaiba but its annoying to see him not progress at all. Not defending any of the bullshit but just sharing my opinion :)

3:30 let's count how many cards he's won/taken from other people: jinzo, legendary fisherman, whale fortress/the ritual spell, insect queen and whatever card that he won from odion, if any. That's 5-6 cards, saying that Joey's deck is just a bunch of boss monsters with no synergy is making him seem like he doesn't know how to play the game and is just doing the monsters because they're the best cards thing again. While yes, they don't have much synergy he has shown that he can summon them(specifically jinzo, a really good card) pretty easily. Also he needs those boss monsters, his deck lost the most powerful card, red eyes, joey uses luck based cards to make up for his lack of power when compared to dark magician, bewd, the God cards, etc., by having these boss monsters, he's (to some degree) reducing his need for luck to make up in power. Edit: also, if we count Gilford the lighting he has a deck which has to make 7 tributes to summon his boss make(8 if he wants to activate Gilfords effect) and let's face it, insect queen isn't going to be used much due to having to tribute one to attack so that number is reduced to 5 or 6

The reason why something like YuGiOh is packed with flashbacks isn't just to fill time, it's also because the studios that produce these weekly shonen serials start with the basic assumption that a certain number of viewers could at any given time just be tuning in but have never seen the previous episodes, so they put these flashbacks in there to provide context for them. That's what makes these series so easy for lots of people to get into cause somebody who is new to the series or who hasn't been keeping up with it can almost jump in at any point and be brought up to speed with all the characters and all the major events cause some character or two is going to explain everything for the upteenth time.

Another Duel Disk feature that randomly disappeared is that they press buttons on the disk itself to activate spell/trap cards, you see Joey do it in the first duels after he and Yugi get the Duel Disks. It was almost immediately removed and they never do it anymore.

To Be Fair You Need A Very High IQ To Understand the Yugi vs. Kaiba Duel!

Joeys deck isn't all boss monsters It's also a lot of luck based cards that I personally headcannon as being a result of being raised by his canonically abusive, alcoholic, and gambling addicted father! (Also there's a line in the KC tournament arc of Tea saying Joey doesn't duel with Luck, he duels with skill that I laugh at because of the aforementioned fuck ton of luck based cards in Joey's deck) Also despite Marik only having one life point, Yugi still had a pretty big chance of loosing because his last move had him literally removing all his monster cards from the game.

Most of the cards in the show had really good effects but Konami changed them so they are not broken. For example: card of sanctity does let you draw until you have six cards in your hand but they new that the effect was kinda broken so they changed the card text.

What really infuriates me about Mai's battle with Marik is it basically was the tipping point for how badly she was treated in comparison to the other characters. In fact this very same conflict comes into play during "Waking the Dragons" but Mai ONLY gets defeated simply because Marik gains plot armor by having Ra know a secret ability that wasn't foreshadowed or anything, it only came into play the moment she took the card from him. Mai outplayed him, yet the episode decides to make her lose for NO reason other than "plot armor" I really liked Mai as a character, she was one of the only decent characters the show had (in fact she's more developed than most of them) but she's a character who also suffers from "The Worf Effect" where's she's made to look weak simply so other characters can look better, even though her personality and skill say otherwise, it also makes it more annoying when you realize that she was the only female character who's a duelist or isn't annoying like Tea. I also hate how Waking the Dragons ended her character, as she's not really seen again afterwards. And Tea just gets worse and worse as each episode passes. I can at least excuse Serenity because she's obviously a supporting character and moral support for Joey, but that's it she's a supporting character, and she isn't shoved in your face all the time like Tea. Also Kaiba is at his worst in this Season, here he's an apathetic Jerkass who's ego is the size of Jupiter. (Don't et me wrong I do like Kaiba, but I just think he goes overboard) I also disliked how BS his rules were when it came to disregarding Joey and Bakura's injuries. It also makes no sense how he was surprised Joey survived Ra's attack the previous episode, the insults Joey to his face when it comes to dueling him! Overall great video and I very much agree with the criticisms. Though I will admit, this did seem like more of you ranting in hatred than it did an actual Everything Wrong with (though I get the intent was done for comedy purposes, so I can get behind that), still I did at least enjoy what was stated.

Your voice sounds so serious compared to how goofy you and your crew are in the moments we see footage of you guys lol. Love this Yugioh series and I come back every so often to rewatch again.

But a lot of the reason cards do different things in the anime is because most of them were made *after* their anime episode, nothing is being changed from card-game to anime in the episodes, but the other way around.. Electromagnetic Turtle only came out in 2015 for instance, and Card of Sanctity only came out in 2005 when the episode you're talking about came out in 2004. I mean I'm sure you know that, but yeah. Give me a reason to be a smug boi.

8:53 lullaby of obedience didnt even exist back then, its a fairly recent card, so the reason why the effect is not literally the same cuz konami decided to make it more "balanced" also you forget to mention how much of a bullshit effect "Final Attack Orders" has in this duel, where it kills your entire deck except for 3 choosen cards...that is almost as overpowered as "last turn"

Sweet next is the Seal of the Plot Convenience. The writers wet dream of doing whatever the fuck it needs to.

A major issue that seems to have been omitted from this otherwise amazing assessment is that, if you watch the "Clash in the Coliseum" duel closely, you will see that, once or twice (once for dead-ass certain), Kaiba actually takes two turns in a row. He completes a play/turn, he and Yugi share some dialogue, and then Kaiba immediately says "My turn, Yugi" and he draws and begins again without Yugi ever getting his own turn LOL. I don't know if it was poor editing or what have you, but it was stupid.
