My father and I took my Vietnam War veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. a few years ago for the first time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in the late 1960s and he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home and received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names and where they were located on the wall. As he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, and live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.
He got Survival gilt and it is no strange to get it. My friend who did service in Afghanistan got it when his friend died and he is one of my best friends 💛💚💜💙🧡
@@explodeygames7585 They all died in vain and achived nothing in the end. If an oil company drafts you to fight in a war in asia, than you just simply dodge.
And our government still hasn't learned its lesson, thinking it can threaten and blast people and expect cooperation. One of the only good things that came out of that war was Vietnam not splitting up like Korea.
@Hot coke yes but we at least doesn has a collar on our necks and can claim what we achieved our own, we have our name and honor intact under our battle scared to pass down to our children and grandchildren. That is something no amount of money can buy.
@Hot coke lol people be like one party bad but no fk two-party system, i certainly will not enjoy being in the middle of a tug of war game, with one party influenced by China and another by Murica

My uncle was a tunnel rat. Though he was 6’2. He was skinny and did it. Still has nightmares 50 years later. My other uncle, my dads twin brother, killed himself once he got back. Agent orange, PTSD and plenty more. He was a decorated and drafted soldier. I’m named after him. Did it upstairs on Easter with family downstairs. My dad, his twin brother found him and held his head together. Vietnam was awful and wrong in so many i ways I can’t fount n
So as America and France at the same time mate, remember that these countries started the war, not Vietnam, so dont just judge a country without certain knowledge about its history.
"US troops hated the M16 so much that they would steal AK-47s from dead enemy soldiers and hoard their ammunition. US special forces especially loved the AK-47." Now that unexpected
AK easier to fix with things on hand. moving parts are not subject to tight tolerances like pesky american M16. (read with a russian accent for best effect)
FYI- "Agent Orange" wasn't actually orange in color as depicted in the video it was a nickname derived from the color of the barrels it was commonly stored in...
No-one ever talks about how the USSR gift'd the NVA not just Uzi(s) & Ak(s) but 'Bootleg guns capable of firing multiple different types of calibers. They created alot of nifty Zip-guns that would put "the anarchist cookbook" to shame lol
My grandpa was one of the main people in the use of agent orange and now hes disabled and wishes the U.S.A never used it and alot of his friends died during that time he tells me storys of how there were people in the trees bushes and EVEN the GROUND
I was over there in the Navy, I voluntered because my younger brother had a really low draft number. I never saw ground combat but I was trained on all weapons. I loved the M-14 but it was not practical for jungle fighting..I loved my service and saw second hand how tragic it was for our troops. I tried to get on a river boat because I wanted to inflict pain as revenge, But by then the "war" ended and my assault ship was mothballed. To this day I still say we should have never been involved, but I'll never regret having served my country, right or wrong. RIP to all who perished there.
One other fact you didn't mention that I think is very interesting is the use of craft made guns as in literally picking up guns and having a metal craftsman crudely make guns and ian McCollum from forgotten weapons has a video on a crudely made north vietnamese m1911 pistol to explain more
What do you mean picking up guns and then a Craftsman makes guns from them?.. like he fixes them or melts them down and completely creates a new gun I don't understand
@@nickromo8195 what I mean is literally taking a gun and a metal craftsman would take it apart and do best they can to crudely make that gun, you should watch the video on RU-vid by forgotten weapons and its titled crudely made north vietnamese m1911 and there will be more information there
My grandmother was in the Vietcong and got affected by Agent Orange. My dad was born with asthma and his younger sister died of leukemia when she was still a baby.
My dad was drafted and spent 6 years in the Army, begging to be deployed, but never was and stayed state side on intelligence all those years... I'm now 39, Dad died in April and it's crazy to think that if Dad had gotten his wish of deployment, I might not be here. Such a historical part of the US, good and bad.
My grandpa was former South Vietnamese Regional Forces (Local military soldiers) join up around the late 60 suffered a few injuries and surrendered on April 30th
Never explained the Australian and New Zealand troops helping Southern Civilians though that also got a decent dos of Agent Orange. Not exactly 'everything'.
Actually, Vietnam was temperary split into 2 gorvernments' control zone waiting for general election not creating 2 new nations in 1954 and thánks for US influence not the French that prevented the election and the war continnued on. And the second most misconception was that national liberated front is a complete independent thing, no, the front was under the leadership of the Democratic republic of Vietnam even though it was created in the southern part because as far as Vietnamese people concerned the DRV was the legitimate gorvernment while the state of Vietnam or later Republic of Vietnam was a puppet state.
3:23 is really sad for me my grandma’s brother fought in Vietnam and died later because of the effects of agent orange. Thought I never met him I am proud of him and am looking forward to seeing him in heaven.
Who's this professional everyone is talking about I always see her post on top comment on every RU-vid video I watched I think I'm interested how can I get in touch with Mrs Clarissa
And till this day Americans didn't learn a single Lessons in Vietnam And *Fun facts : Most people are still in denial till this day and saying* _"US didn't lose anything in Afganistan or Vietnam 2.0"_ and yes it is everywhere in many YT who talk Afgan lost war video now
@@OpDwagon She was one of the successful people that swam cross the Mekong River with my mother on her back when my mom was only 3. Only reason on alive
Actually Vietnam was a way bigger failure than Afghanistan casualty wise. Both wars suffered from one commonality - POLITICIANS ran the wars. Same goes for Iraq. War against ISIS was a big win - Trump went in hard and fast - wiped out the enemy and quickly removed ground forces - leaving behind only a few thousand Air Force personnel to suppress any attempts by ISIS to rise again in Syria/Iraq. Those forces at STILL there. Launching occasional drone strikes if ISIS is spotted trying to rebuild. That should have been been model for leaving Afghanistan - now there are constant ISIS-K Bombings, Taliban brutalizing the population again, collapsed economy, etc Media is ignoring most of whats going on. Seeing a recent report where a father whose family was starving and sold his 9 year old daughter to an old man so he could keep his family alive was heart breaking. He plead with the old man not to beat his daughter as she left their home.
Negative, Afghanistan is a bigger failure. The puppet South Vietnamese gov did fought against the treaty (they launched a new military campaign while the treaty is being signed, and they launched a "police' campaign after that) - for 2 years with quite a degree of effectiveness. The Afghan gov fell in 2 weeks after the US left. With no active struggle to fight back
He meant Afghanistan being number one, and Vietnam being number two. I’d say Vietnam was a bigger failure for us though just based on the fact that over 40,000 more of our troops were killed there compared to the amount we lost during Iraq/Afghanistan.
“I think we have all underestimated the seriousness of this situation. Like giving cobalt treatment to a terminal cancer case. I think a long protracted war will disclose our weakness, not our strength.”-Deputy Secretary of State George W. Ball answering President Lyndon Johnson’s question at a White House meeting on July 21, 1965 about whether the United States could win a war in the “jungle rice-paddies” of Vietnam.
The 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T in agent orange were relatively safe. But the synthesis of 2,4,5-T had a toxic byproduct and it led to this compound being banned. 2,4-D is still heavily used. And all the memes relating it to glyphosate are quite wrong. Chlorophenoxy acid herbicides are quite different from glyphosate even if they both work as herbicides.
We should have told the French that if they turn communist we’d be returning for a hard reset of their government. That, and helped the Vietnamese gain freedom. They would have acted as an alley against Chinese expansion. We fought the wrong bad guys.
@@andy56duky not quite. if american help Vietnam would likely agree to stop china expansion because vietnam hate china from the beginning, vietnam only allied with china due to the war against the south.
@@andy56duky To fight an evil you have to become one with it. Trumpman didnt give us a chance and turned himself into the devil towards us so we dont really have choice.
Just more unwarranted M16 slander. It was bad early on, but by the time M16A1 rolled out most of its problems had been resolved. The AK was heavy and outdated, even by then it was not better than the M16, it was favorable only to special forces because it was easier to commit guerrilla with captured weapons because the enemy wouldn’t suspect the gunfire or casings.
61000 Australian troops 320,000 South Korean troops, served along side American troops on the ground. Thank you for mentioning the allies involvement 🧐🤷🏻♂️🤦
Needs to collapse finaly. The US is clearly no longer the greatest world power anyway, and they’re just electing stupider and stupider presidents. What’s next? A basketball player?
I’ve been watching all your Vietnam videos but you guys have never once mentioned the Hmong people’s story. The Vietnam war is why I am alive today but I find that my people never get a voice when this war is brought up. That’s why no one knows our story.
this war made the US look foolish and weak minded and we never recovered from it not our troops fault but our political leaders who deserve the blame for that whole mess should have talked to leaders of both sides and got facts first
I cannot believe what I just saw 😱 US government was so evil, soooo much un repairable damage is done all over the world! US was fighting USSR in Vietnamese territory, burning it to the ground and couldn’t care less 🤬 So heartbreaking 💔
And yet the nazis were the bad xdd. Can’t feel bad about france being buttfucked during WW2 after they try an repeat the same thing in vietnam a few years later, except they lose even to them.
Actually, the presence of Soviet personnel is quite minimal. In fact, there are believable account of Soviet SAM specialists joining the fight - simply because the US was targetting the area
Great video. Bias against USA in this is odd. One section tells about how shoddy the tunnels were to other sections reporting how superior they were with fighting tactics of the tunnel rats.
Okay USAF security policemen AFSC 81150 base defense force member, a yr at Ellsworth AFB SD then on to Vietnam. My unpopular opinion, the AK 47 why it is a /Soldiers weapon. The amount of abuse the weapons operating system can take answer still functions is legendary. The AR family is "Marksmen weapon accurate and light weight. MY Personal favorite is an SKS carbine with the 10 round stripper clips rather than a magazine, less gear to keep up with. Plus having been taught by substance hunters. Aim fire over spray and pray.
The difference is that Vietnam was mostly conscripts with very little oversight while Afghanistan was purely voluntary with the most excessive rules possible. We would have won if the worthless UN didn’t allow terror to hide in hospitals and schools.
Leave the past behind, look to the future That's what the Vietnamese want to say to Americans today. all the blame belongs to the bad leaders. .Americans should be proud of your great contributions to the world, including Vietnam. we just hate those who are threatening our country. Why do we Vietnamese always smile? because we understand happiness time is limited, there is not too much time to go hate. you Americans are very talented but live with a warm heart, the world will praise and worship you. Don't send your army to another country, what you get after meaningless wars will be bad retribution for future generations. We believe in Buddhism and believe in retribution. If you sow love, you will reap love; if you sow hatred, you will reap revenge and death. Finally, thank you to the US for sponsoring vaccines for Vietnam.Thank you America
The last two facts are like a life-vest for the roast that the American supporters received through out the video lol. Like, they lost ~ 30 B-52 during the war, a state of the art war machine with highly advanced stuffs and still got shot down by a second-grade aaa at that time. The Arabs got the best stuffs from the soviet at that time and all they did was getting spanked by the IAF. 2,251 (recognized) aircrafts were shot down by some of the poorest aa weaponries at that time and you can still praising the anti-radar and flares? for real? And if the US put more ground forces into HCM trails, they will win. Yeah, win haha. Guess what? They tried and failed Operation Dewey Canyon, Operation Apache Snow and the final one is Operation Commando Hunt all failed. What kind of genius think "if we put more men here, we would win" like that? Is this HOI4 or what?
I can't believe the Brits sold the US Government the domino theory. I always thought that idea originated with LBJ and co. As for the French, they said intervention in Vietnam wasn't worth the hassle. And the French are some of the worst practitioners of realpolitik.
An War that never should’ve even happened, huge waste of time and I’m a Veteran and indicate clearly how pointless War truly is and just a waste of money and time and resources and everything really
Losing a battle buddy to suicide and certain situations? Definitely impacted me and deeply depressed me for years and it’s not me begging for forgiveness for another’s choice? No it’s just a thing
