I love your dedication to AoM, (I was a top 20 player in early 2000's) I am old as shit but the Retold is gonna make me pick it back up again. Thanks for keeping things alive sir!
The change for Petsuchos(was it spelled like this i have no idea) to Petsobek might be taken from GiantGrantGaming retrospect video for AoM which is funny as hell to me
It was the first thing I thought of when it got to this part of the video, the video that he himself said he made without much expectation having such a big impact.
I hope chinese expansion will have a better story still hate the final campaign Chinese Arkantos: PANGA RESTORE THE YING YANG BALANCE Panga: Its done! End
Is it just me thinking that the buildings and units look new and fresh but the resource bar, selected units/buildings and unit description and commands look so old?
@@medev3349that's true. I hope we can get a more "classic AoM UI" mode. And btw, glad they kept the original camera angle. I was afraid from the screenshots that it would be vastly different.
@@softwarelivre2389 I hope so, too. Yeah, the mechanics seems the same, which I think is a step on the right direction, but still I would like it more vertical...But, do not get me wrong, hyped af for the game
Okay, hear me out, I've been playing AoM since it released and am honestly a bit surprised in a negative way. In a sentence: to me this looks like they took AoM, remodelled and rebalanced it and then changed the UI to a clean round unproblematic SpongeBob. It has no character at all, and this is what I find repulsive. AoM is a fantasy/history setting with cut-clear civilizations that had been portrayed in their playstyle and UI, this has a mere icon of Ra and calls it a day. The fact you can select the game to set villagers to a specific task without you doing it takes away an important micromanagement option and I know this is what non-RTS players find aweful, yet it is...what makes an RTS isn't it? It also takes this cartoonish look all mobile games and AoE4 have and I can't wrap my head around it. It feels like they try to appeal to new players whose favourite games are Fortnite and takes the bright colors and almost childish look to it. AoM never looked dead serious but this is so, so strange. "Petsobek" comes straight from god Sobek, "Petsuchos" is a Greek word. So it makes sense they use Egyptian names for Egyptian units. Rant over. :D
In terms of the Villager Priority System, I'd recommend going and watching some console gameplay on AoE4 and 2 to see exactly how it works. Your concerns will most likely go away hehe
There is so much room for great expansions with this game, Japanese Pantheon, West African, Hindu, Aztec, Etc. this is exciting because a) it gives the devs a way to monetize the game and keep supporting it, and b) It will bring in players who haven't picked up the game in a long time or who never have. So excited to see where the game goes from here.
Seems a lot of people agree that while most graphical changes look great, the UI could deal with some significant cleaning up. Which luckily should be something a lot easier to change.
nearly 100% sure its his special attack which we as players can activate (also mountain giants can now kick away elephants - maybe they could before but i can't remember)
not a fan of resources being on the top of the screen!! Hope you can customize it and put it back in the bottom left, not gonna be fun on my ultrawide monitor to lift my head to see if i have enough resources to age up etc
I already struggle with banners on The top right corner in EE / TT lol AoE3 DE allows some changes to The UI, really hope we can change that as well as hope minimap doesnt stick to right corner as well, but stays at a standart distance from center.
Where are the costs for the other God Powers besides Born of Osiris? 4:06 the first three Ra GPs don't show a cost and 4:45 none of the three GPs for the Isis Hear My Plea segment have costs to them. I imagine that repeat uses for ALL god powers, not just the Mythic ones, will have Favor costs attached to them, right? Or is it really going to be just the Mythic GPs? If all god powers get a Favor cost for repeat use, this would leave me to believe that maybe the other God Powers besides Born of Osiris between these clips were just not used at all, and the FIRST use of each God Power might be on the house? Thoughts?
I think the Norse building is meant to house new units. We saw a spear and shield unit and the Norse already has a lot of units coming out of the same building. So maybe they are splitting it up a bit.
Tbh. not everything, palms are more ugly than 2002 Vanilla palms even the 2001 beta palms are prettier, the god powers logos are ugly. All trees are a bit strange and Gaia and Cronos and the titans models of them. Everything else looks fine. I want to see Cyclopes.
finally "back with some more age of mythology retold action!" :) I hope the game will be great! I do not like the minotaur new design, and I find it quite shameful to put the old ui at 5€, but still looking forward to play this.
OMG THEY EVEN CAME BACK WITH THE RESEARCH...calling the petsuchos, petsobek means that the crocodile God(SEBEK/SOBEK) is finnaly being recognized as the crocodile god...maybe he will be added in the game or replace hathor... it was always strange that Hathor( goddes of fertility represented as a cow ) had Sobek's army at command....now they even changed the names to be more accurate true work is being done for this game and you can see that in details lile that.
I'm guessing the new voice actors will be more culturally sensitive like the redub they did with AOE2? As long as they keep Ajax's lines, I'm all for it!
I'm excited about the change to god powers. - From a casual perspective, the fantasy of throwing god powers at your enemy was always a big part of the game's selling point, but you spent hardly any time actually doing it; even as a kid I thought it was a bit of a stingy design. Letting you use them more often will make the games more cinematically exciting and draw in new players! - And from the perspective of gameplay and optimisation, I think it could create some interesting _tradeoffs_ - if you invest too heavily into myth units for your army, you'll have less faith to spend on powers when you attack! When you say you have "balance concerns" - the god power balance will undoubtedly be very different from classic AoM, but I'm optimistic that it will be different in an interesting way.
I hope that, with this, they release dlcs with new civs. Chinese (well made) japanese, aztec, native north american, slavic, celtic/irish and... Abrahamic (there is no way they would make this one)
Oh wow nice to see AOM getting more and more attention game looks alright I gotta say some animations look a bit exaggerated? I dunno but the art style definitely looks different from OG AOM now that we have seen gameplay we can fully examine that , also I think you are worrying too much about balance while I get you are a pro player who has a decent background about the game balance you still are a player not a developer by that I mean the devs may have different view to you or other players I think we just wait till the game is released and then judge if balance is alright or nah just have a bit of trust in dem devs man , tho a reminder that AOM wasn't really a balanced game the GPs alone were game breaking sometimes so I don't think we should like go too hard in that regard , looking forward to see the release one thing comes to mind is last time a massive RTS remaster came by it was warcraft 3 and that didn't end well....lets hope aom retold isn't a buggy mess that could spill doom for AOM tho Microsoft work on AOE franchise these few years was good so who knows.
I need new pantheons, man! Good news about the chinese being rework, that mod that adds the aztecs is pretty good too, they might make them into an expansion. There are still plenty of others that could come later, like celtic gods, japanese, babylonian, vedic...
I was excited for this before but honestly it's just yet another remaster with minor tweaks and a less than a handful of additions. I was hoping for something closer to a sequel or at least something with [new] content and far more expansion into current and maybe even other mythology's. I'm still glad they're at least giving this some love but this just feels like a cash grab and I'm kinda sick of these re-releases, and dlc's they just feel like cut content set aside to milk the consumer as much as they can. But I guess if it does well then maybe they make something worth my money later on.
Looking forward to this game! It looks really good and the movement seems smooth on the units. Although i hope they have fixed the auto attack movement!! If not, the game will continue to feel clonky..
I'm really hoping they change up the Chinese campaign to include the other factions and have you interact with the Greeks, Norse, Egyptians, or maybe even the Atlanteans, as the Chinese, like the other campaigns did, instead of keeping them secluded to themselves. I know it doesn't make sense geologically for them to be interacting with each other for that time period, but neither did it really make sense for the Norse to be with the Greeks or Egyptians, and lets not even talk about the Atlanteans as a faction. But that's the fun of this fictional fantasy world, to see these cultures and mythologies interacting with one another despite them either being too far away, or too far apart on the timeline, to have done so in reality.
@@Stonehengooby African he meant sub saharan. They could really do anything. Since the game is already anachronistic with greece eygpt and the norse. Babylon would be sick or even just a "Mesopotamian" civ since the history of the region is so convoluted
There are so many different ways they can go. I just hope they don't do anything 'silly' with it if you know what I mean. (I'm looking at you immortals)
What a time to be alive! And you dear Boit are one of the driving forces that made all of this happen. Much love for everything you have done to keep this game alive and thriving. You're an absolute legend, mate! ❤❤❤
The people of the fortified city-state of Troy (Taruisa, Wilusa, Ilios; the seventh layer to be specific) were of mixed ethnicities (Luwians, Dardanians, Achaean Greeks) Greek-adjacent culture-wise in Homer's novel The Iliad. Their pantheon was similar to the ancient Greeks, renamed accordingly in the Trojans' extinct tongue. So, unlikely because city-state got the scorched earth treatment from the victorious invaders from the west, duh. Romans, same deal, right-down to the copy-paste cryptids from the Hellenic sphere, although their mortal military was unique before Consul / General Gaius Marius's reforms.
An indian pantheon would literally be perfect, given the fact that there are exactly 3 major gods, and the deities are somewhat recognizable in popular culture. But unfortunately that would not be possible considering it's an actual religion now.
With proper consultation from actual (East) Indian theologians and military historians for Maurya and/or Gupta armies and navies to be used in the Hindu faction
@@BoitTVH He Boit, I wanted to ask you a quick question, at the stream yesterday they said that they have a player council who hepls them with stuff like how the game should feel like. Are you a part of that council? Because if you aren't they are making a huge mistake
Everything looks amazing except reusable god powers... I was likeing how you must "thinkink", when and how use your god power... now, if you can use your Bolt every maybe 5 minutes... you will just spam it like crazy. Hope they will limit it as hard as possible.
4:05 You see when the player activates the God power, the total cost of the next one increases. I hope for balanace patches where they touch cooldown time and cost increase for each individual God power for best balance. A power like Cease fire should probably not have a high cost, but a high cooldown, as spamming that would be annoying for the opponent, while the Norse meme tree power could have a medium cost but a short cooldown, because it's not too difficult to deal with.
I understand the idea behind only being able to use the God powers only one time, but it's such a bad idea. God powers are the one thing that really makes it different from any other RTS game in the Age of Empires franchise, so it makes sense to be able to use them more than one time.
In the footage they released you can see Eggy villagers praying at the wonder, so maybe praying at your wonder is what you need in order to get another use on your last GP? That could be a fun mechanic if the wonder were a bit cheaper.
2:45 Wait why are you disappointed about the Mercenary? Are you confusing them for the Khopesh Swordsmen? I didn't think anyone had problems with the Mercs, which were in the game at least since the OG Titans expansion.
If you watched my overhaul mod I removed Mercenary from the game and in turn gave Eggy some more economic power. Lots of people didn't like Merc and I think it was requested a little bit to remove them.
@@BoitTV oh interesting, I didn't know that Mercs weren't liked. I always thought they were a pretty cool unit, and helped reinforce both the gold-centricism of Eggy and their more defensive nature. I'll have to check out that video; does it explain the problems you saw with them?
5:10 *Laughs in GiantGrantGames* For the TL;DW on this. GiantGrantGames once went on a mild rant about this in his "Brief Retrospective" on the game where he found that Petsuchos is actually based on a Greek translation of the _Petsobek_ which were actual favored animals of Sobek that were worshiped in Crocodilopolis.
Shedet, also known as Crocodeilópolis, became Arsinoe under Ptolemaic rule and is now called Faiyum. And the fact that the Romans still called the city Crocodilopolis (the formal name remained Arsinoe) after the temple was demolished is soo weird, like c'mon (it was done by the Ptolomaics, even before Rome got their hands on the city)
I saw the Xbox podcast as well, and i couldn’t really tell which voices were new, as the presenters were talking so much, and the game’s audio was a bit on the quiet side. I know some alpha/beta build footage got leaked, and in that, the voices ARE different, but they’re all place-holders. We know myth units now have voice overs which are more than just grunts. I really like the high-poly models they’re using now, i just wish they’d taken the chance to change a few of the titan units: Make Cerberus an actual dog, and change the Egyptian titan to something other than Ra or Horus, maybe they could have gone with Apep, Sobek, Sekhmet or Anubis. One thing i am kind of disappointed about, and this was the same in Age of Empires 4, is the lack of skeletons and blood left behind by dead units. Hopefully that is something that can be modded in, because without it, it kinda breaks the immersion.
I think the new Norse building will be favor related. I think with the seemingly new limits for favor cap, Norse would have it way too easy to mass favor so they have slowed it down/tweaked for balance, but that building speeds it up
Love some of the new features but I hate others 😂 I hope this doesn’t split the community 3 ways instead of bringing it together into 1 community from the current EE/voobly split
As for renamed units, in what proports to be a gameplay leak, Mountain Giants were also called Jotun, so that may just be a few cases like in 2, where Camels and Arbalests had their name adjusted to make more sense. GP balance and wonder inclusion remains to be seen. The UI lost some character I feel and especially the GP selector and age indicator look huge. And it may have become a tiny bit less readable, but that remains to be seen in practice as well.
so exited for this game XD age of mythology is one of my favorite childhood games in general XD so glad its getting new life for the modern age WOOHOO LET'S GO :)
Great video, I love the look of the game overall everything has been dialled up to 11 in terms of presentation while still retaining the charm of this early BANG! title. As for the mechanics I am quite curious as to how these eco automation features will affect the game overall, good for newcomers but I hope they can be disabled completely (as in not allowed) and or modified. Excited for potential of custom rule sets (I hope there are a few more ways to customise game rules this time around). Reuseable god powers is something I am naturally very cautious of but it is interesting to see them return back to the Alpha god power system of sorts (with favour costs returning), this system will definitely develop as it goes live for everyone but I hope the first iteration does it’s best to be balanced.
Am I the only one who thinks the graphics are a bit shadowy? meaning it lacks a bit of luminosity and makes the units much harder to distinguish compared to the original, when there is a big stack of units
One part of the reveal shows us arkantos and ajax in a cinematic, but as different players, maybe will have coop for those challenges/historical battles?
I'm so happy about the change to the god powers. They were billed as game changers but their limited use meant they were very situational. I used to play with divine intervention because it was more fun that way.
It's a unit I just don't like. Design wise I think it's promotes bad gameplay. Sitting back, not interacting with opponent, waiting till you can spam Merc then just winning. If you remove Merc, you can buff eggy a bit elsewhere so that they don't need to play this play style is my thought.
Or function the same (Archaic: basic melee Hero, Classical: archer Hero, Heroic: renowned Hero, Mythic: Hero with a myth unit something or ascended monsters like the Cyclops Polyphemos)
The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is seeing what kinds of things we can do in the scenario editor. AI limitations with the old game limited things like water maps and maps that had too many objects would prevent AI scripts from even loading up. I also hope we can get a larger variety of map sizes. In regards to the God powers, I wish they would use a combination of Favor and cooldown to keep the potential for abuse to a minimum.
I can't wait to see what a reinvigorated AoM scene of scenario designers can come up with! I hope they remember how important custom scenarios were for AoM and do it justice!
