The daily dose is the way to go! Especially for shrimp keepers. Most micro nutrients oxidize and bind up into unusable forms in hours. Precipitating out of the water column. I have read some research suggesting dosing at about 1/3 of the way into your light cycle for maximum uptake. Loving the series Bentley!

I used Aquarium Co-op Liquid fertilizers for years. I used Easy Green, the Red one and the other one. I got out of aquarium Fish keeping, because I moved to Florida from Arizona. I will get into it once again. My made and sold my own Root Tabs. I used Mexican Red Clay and Crushed Egg Shells, and those worked out great for me. Every three months I would dose my Root Tabs. I would use the Aquarium Co-op Liquid Fertilizers as directed. Using the siesta 4 hour off and 4.5 hours twice a day have my plants very healthy. When I lived in Arizona, I had people from San Diego, El Centro, California coming over to Yuma, Arizona to buy my plants and Root Tabs. I would make 5 times my money back on the 5 LBS box of Red Mexican Clay. I grew all kinds of plants too. I sold Mostly Red and Green plants.

I started with seachem , then found out I needed the whole line . Was kinda fun being sciencey and using different bottles threw the week . Then I found out about thrive , then ended up ordering easy green because I've been following Cory since the beginning and wanted to support him and get a variety of stuff in one order . Still want to try thrive but I have a jug of easy green . Currently interested in trying the tropica with out nitrate in tanks that nitrate run high and also getting some thrive s for my shrimp . I use easy iron sparingly because it can cause algae problems but benefit red plants and growth . I use easy carbon even though I know better because the plant game is still new to me and I have a variety of algae issues . all in one's are great but I'm seeing the benefits of having individual supplements around if needed

I never dosed until November,any aquarium..had been super low tech. Now that I've gotten on that mule,I see. Iron is an absolute. Potassium is next..and even with many rainbows fed many times a day in portions and variety ,I still see a need for jolt of nitrogen aka acid loving plant ferts that are high moly and iron and others. I don't have Co2..but I do have sunlight and that makes plants metabolize much more than the usual LED or fluorescent lights. If you want a more professional looking water garden? You HAVE to do more. That's for life too!

My two favorites are Aquarium Co-op Easy Green and Thrive "S" both are Shrimp friendly and simple to use. Bentley I started dosing daily, because my average planted tank has zero ppm of Nitrates. I tend to plant heavily to keep Nitrates down, but sometimes that is too much and then you use all of the Nitrates in the water column and it can start starving your plants. I mix it up with root tabs quite often, as well as adding more liquid fertilizer. It is a bit of A balance act. If you start with R/O water, you need an everything type of Fertilizer. The other thing I have begun over a month ago, is a dirted tank. It is great method to apply to your planted tank. Anyway, thanks as always, a greatly helpful video!

Hmm.. dosing once a day is easy if you do the math... First thing is is that one need to determine the amount of light they're pushing into their water column (low or high) always follow the instructions on the bottle but just make sure you know what your light par is.

I use the Aquarium Co-Op brand of fertilizers and they are working well for me right now. I have a high-tech 29 gallon that I dose Easy Green twice weekly and Easy Iron every other day....I get insane red coloration on my banana plants, lilies, crypts, bacopa, etc. Growth is so rapid I have to propogate nearly every week. For substrate, I have standard gravel but add Easy Root Tabs. I wish I would have used a planted tank substrate, but what I've done instead is every couple months I sprinkle Fluval Stratum throughout the tank...it seems to work its way down through the gravel to get to the plant roots (I'm guessing the Malaysian trumpet snails are helping with that). Didn't want to change the gravel on a two-year old tank so I experimented with the Statum and it seems to be working for me! Great videos like always :)

Just started my journey down the Bentley Pascoe rabbit hole! Did a lot of research before starting my first planted tank. Started off low tech then added co2 after six months. Things have gone downhill since then. My plants are suffering because everything is covered in diatoms and I can't get rid of it. Three days after removing as much off the leaves by hand and a 60% water change, it is covered again. Thinking of going back to low tech until I get more experience. As for the topic of this video, I use Thrive!

I use easy green from co-op I have used flourish and sechem but with both in my water I had algae issues with Easy green no issues. I live in Washington State near Olympia. My water is very soft. I use Tums for my calcium that I do add about every ten days 1 1000 mg tab per 10 gallons but that is different in my 29s and my 40s. I add Iron too mostly for color. I too have root feeders well mostly.

Maybe as I get more growth that will work.for now I’ve cut out any fertilizer, halved the blue light setting and started feeding a bit lighter to get the hillstream loaches, molies, ghost shrimp and mystery snail to work a little harder

@ThenX Everything was fine till that point the lights are set at exactly the same parameters the only thing they do is provide better front to back coverage needed because of the wood and rocks in use and the fact that the cover brings the lights very close to the water surface. BTW, I didn’t say nor did I have any issues with easy green used as directed. My problem started because i thought the once a day application would work for anything other than a “jungle”.

I try and have the impression it works for me: 2 different brands of "all in one"; I use them both but one at the time and I think they do more for my plants than just one. I used them both exclusive for a few months but using both makes my plants healthier it seems. The only difference between the two is one contains nitrates.( for as far as I read the bottle) .

Usually the expiration is tied to the non-ferts. All our ferts are just salts and can keep effectively indefinitely, but the trace amounts of binders to keep them suspended in liquid and not settling can expire.

I’m enjoying this series👍. Quick question, using EZ green in my heavily planted and stocked 40 breeder, constantly fighting beard algae. I was thinking of switching to the orange Tropica, forgot the name, because it’s low in N, and think my fish are producing plenty... Any thoughts? Water parameters (pH 7.8, fighting to keep nitrates at 20ppm, KH and GH off the scale, temp 75-77. Thanks again for the fert info
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 4 года назад
Typically when I get BBA, it's because I've been over feeding - I do love spoiling my fish! Try feeding half as much as you normally do, maybe feed every other day or just a lighter amount per day. Monitor that for a couple weeks and see if the BBA stops spreading. If so, its phosphates out of what and not specifically the nitrates. If that has no impact, then look at the low-nitrate fertilizer and see how that treats you.

@swatch12345
@swatch12345 4 года назад
What is the best ratio of macro and micros? Should the N-P-K be like 2 parts Nitrogen for 1.5 parts Phosphorus to 1 part Potassium? Curious of how it compares to regular terrestrial plants. Like a "starter" or "flowering" fertilizer would be a 5-20-10 or similar. High in Phosphorus to push the root structure or secondary functions of the plant as in flowers and fruit. Something like a lawn food would be almost all nitrogen since you just want foliar green growth. I wonder how that would change for aquarium plants that grow under water. Is the limiting factor CO2 since is dissolved in the water?
@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 4 года назад
Typically if you want to push flowering for example, you'd want boron, but rather than pick each one, let me go with a broader and more important view point. All of this depends on your water. If you have water like mine here in Seattle where there's basically nothing in it, I would say keep a balanced overall nutrient load, basically following the EI method, and a bit of patience will pay off much more than playing with pushing certain nutrients for specific results. Hope that makes sense and I'll try to cover more when we do EI and powdered ferts.
@swatch12345
@swatch12345 4 года назад
@@BentleyPascoe Yeah it does for sure. My water here in Norcal is very soft as well. I've been using Nilocg Thrive which seems to work pretty well although I usually run out of nitrates in 4 to 5 days. Maybe I should split the dosage in half and do it twice a week. Have you ever used the PPS Pro method? Seems like just a roundabout way to make your own All-in-one just with dry ferts.

I've been using Aquarium Co-op Easy green and their root tabs for my plants. I'm very new to keep aquatic plants and I'm kind of struggling on knowing if what I'm doing is working. Some plants have new growth and others don't. I have some swords that the leaves are browning and other plants the steams look thin at the base. To be fair I just went to my local fish store and asked for an assortment of plants not really knowing 100% what I was getting (not a good idea on my part).
