Hello Tim, which alleged easy computer you were playing with ,... don't tell me its stockfish lol,...... If its any consolation , Computers are now officially better than humans in chess ,... so it doesn't matter even if u r a gm or a world champion u will still lose ,... now that being said IMO Chess is a beautiful game but modern chess isn't ,.... Ill explain why ,. its simply because in modern chess paul murphy wont be able to execute the above said example coz no one at that level will play phildor defence ,... now u have made an effort to improve your game , which shows u have interest ,.. meaning u will develop over time. Watching these videos won make u better at chess but constant involvement will ,.. try and play the game the old way ,.. fun way and my simple tip to win over a easy computer is simple ...Dont make blunders ,. u need not play smart but just don blunder anything .... Easy Computers will usually blunder.. then u can work ur way up in your position Have fun

Normally, you would take pawn on B7 with your white queen and attack the rook on A8, but after the take of the pawn, black queen can go to B4 with check and attack on white queen. White would have to capture the queen resolving in a trade with the bishop on F8. The knight is there just to protect the king, I hope i made myself clear :)

@mathiassteffensen3200
@mathiassteffensen3200 3 года назад
Moving the knight prevents the check on the king should white choose to attack on b7. If white simply moved its queen to attack b7 black could play queen to b4 and threaten whites queen and king. White would be forced to either move the king (thus giving up the queen) or capture black's queen on b4 after whick black would capture the white queen with the bishop on f8.
@GODDAMIZJoseph
@GODDAMIZJoseph 3 года назад
@@mathiassteffensen3200 but even after nc3 move, black can still put his queen on b7, if white queen decides not to capture on his move, black can still capture the queen after white's move.
@mathiassteffensen3200
@mathiassteffensen3200 3 года назад
@@GODDAMIZJoseph Maybe I am mistaken, but I don't see how or why white would allow that to happen. Without the move Nc3 white would be forced to capture the black queen on b4 due to the fact that black's queen checks white's king. Now, however, the white knight on c3 blocks this check so the white queen is free to capture black's rook on a8 with no real consequences. At least how I see it
@GODDAMIZJoseph

Lawrence o umm, do you not see the bishop at g8? If black plays Rc4+, then the white king is in check and because of the bishop protecting the rook, the white king couldn’t take the rook thus leading in a pin which causes white to lose his knight, making him in a very bad spot. Because if black queen moves to b4 white bishop on c4 moves to f7 later white queen moves to e6 and it will be critical
@penjiapp
@penjiapp 4 года назад
It's not really the knight that does it, it's leaving the Queen in place that prevents black from moving his queen to b4. If on the other hand white took b2 pawn, queen could have moved to b4 and forced a queen trade (b4 is also covered by black's bishop).
@NeptuneIV
@NeptuneIV 4 года назад
For anyone wondering how the knight prevents the queen trade at 6:24 like I was wracking my brain to figure out: Without the knight at c3, if the black queen were to move to b4 after white queen took the pawn, white's king would be in check, forcing white's queen to come back to b4 to take black's queen, and then white's queen would get taken by black's bishop that's on f8. With the knight at c3 however, if the black queen were to move to b4 after white queen took pawn, the knight is blocking the black queen from putting white's king in check, so white's queen is free to just take the black's rook, and bonus: pin black's knight [since black's knight at the back would be the only thing between white's queen and black's king], essentially letting white also get a knight and put black into check if black's queen tries to take white's bishop afterwards instead of trying to prevent the incoming check

I call it "the valley of knowledge" (patent pending). It`s true for many things. Studying foreign languages, calculus, even shooting games, or any other skill complex enough. If you have a graph, where y is your performance in a certain skill and x is your knowledge, at first you begin on a steady climb. Of course, it is only natural. As your knowledge of the skill increases, it leads to better performance. But then, at one random point, the performance plummets, even if the knowledge still increases. That is because you have enough knowledge to be confused and have doubts that you didn`t even know about before, but you are not skilled enough yet to have the answers for them. It is a crazy thing. It is the reason why there IS such a thing as overstudying or overtraining. But once the valley of knowledge passes, it starts to climb higher again, steeper than before.

Awesome series, I'm going to clarify why the C3 rook blocks the queen trade as so many people are wondering in the first game. People are saying a black queen B4 would still offer a trade. Queen moves B4 white bishop then moves B5 checking black king and preventing queen for queen. Black then has a couple of options: 1. Take bishop with queen to remove check. This is a bad move as either the white knight could take it, or better white queen resulting in another check. 2. Black moves king out of bishop check, This allows white queen to freely capture F7 with knight defending bishop and pawn defending knight. 3. Pawn block C6, same sequence of moves as 2. However once F7 is captured you might say wouldn't black pawn get a free bishop, If black takes B5 bishop with pawn then white queen takes B7 getting a free rook and possibly knight, black queen cannot retaliate B7 as his B5 pawn is blocking it.

+Schindlabua Right? It also would have moved his queen to a position that would still be protecting the F7 pawn and allow the bishop to finally come out.
@SuperYtc1
@SuperYtc1 8 лет назад
+Schindlabua White captures the knight on f6 with the bishop. Black cannot retake with the queen or the b7 pawn would be lost, followed by the rook. So black must recapture the bishop with the g7 pawn. After white castle queen side developing the rook, black must defend the f7 pawn with the move rook h7, leaving black unable to castle king side and in a horrible position with poorly placed pieces. If black does not defend the f7 pawn then white will capture it with the bishop. Black cannot take this bishop with the queen or he loses to white playing rook d8, winning the queen after ...ke7, qb7. In summary, if black plays h6 then white will capture the knight on f6 with the bishop. If black plays correct moves, he is left in a bad position with poorly developed pieces and an exposed king. If black plays incorrectly he will lose material ranging from a pawn to a queen and still be in a bad position.

11:17 that's checkmate, isnt it?
@Navii-05
@Navii-05 3 года назад
It is. E7 is covered by the bishop and d7 by the rook. The rook is protected by the bishop so the king can't legally take it.

No knight can move to b5 and if you mean the queen white can take the rook

Google "en passant"
@dixonyamada6969
@dixonyamada6969 6 лет назад
IDK if you still need this but it's apparently a rule called 'en passant'. search it up. Basically, the white pawn can kill an imaginary version of the black pawn, because the rule is if your pawn moves two spaces from the original position as opposed to just one space from the original position, the opposition can kill an imaginary version of your pawn that had only moved one space, and kill your actual pawn in the process. its hard to write in words.

6:23 Knight to c3 in regards to defending the trading of queens. Look where the knight is able to move if white queen were to take the undefended pawn at b7. Black moves queen to b4, and white responds with knight to b5, blocking the trading of queens. I saw a few comments confused as to how the knight moving there stopped the queen trade.
@alanblack3459
@alanblack3459 6 лет назад
Not quite. The Knight on c3 doesn't prevent the trade of queens because of the blocking move Nb5 ( which is illegal as it exposes the white king to check by the queen on b4). Nc3 prevents the trade of queens because if the black queen does go to b4, it is not with check; therefore, the white queen on b7 isn't forced to respond by capturing the queen. Instead it simply captures the rook on a8. If the black queen then captures the bishop c4, the white queen captures the N on b8

No no no, Knight to b5 would be illegal
