Hey Zac! Where can I find that hot knife plastic welder you have to plastic weld back housings after retrofitting, cant seem to find them anywhere other than the ones with the metal staples.
Clear taillights are totally legal, many cars came stock with them, a good example of this is the lexus rx330 The only requirement is that the lights when energized has to be their respective color, red for brakes, amber for turn signals and white for reverse lights
Taillights can definitely be clear as long as they illuminate red. You DO need red reflectors somewhere on the back, but not necessarily on the taillights themselves Edit: exactly!
Correction on the history. There in fact was all clear taillights available in the mid to late 90’s and were available for the 1988-1995 Honda Civics. This was during the era were MR2 Kouki and Supra taillights were being retrofitted onto practically every car back in the day. I know this because I was an active street racer in the Bay Area California from 1996-2003.
oh interesting!! I couldn't find anything written up on them anywhere online otherwise I would have for sure put it in the video!,thank you for letting me know!!
Loved the history lesson! Fantastic information on legality as well. Clear tail lights are badass, the ones that stood out to me the most were the 2008 to 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback. They just have a red side reflector, the rest of it is clear. I think manufacturers have reached a happy medium with having a red running light, and a clear brake light with red LEDs behind it. Dodge and Jeep love to do this and it looks cool. I also think separating the brake light from the running light is a lot safer. The easy way I’ve seen this be done is by heating up a sheet of clear acrylic and molding it over the lens, and then just having a slightly bigger lens. -One more note, there actually has to be 2 different types of red reflectors on the back of a car. One must face rearward. The other must be side facing. Both have to be red in color.
In my country the Philippines you can have red or green turn signal bulb led or halogen but not blue because of the police but a lot of people in my country still put blue led or halogen bulbs because people in my country don’t care about the police in my country because the police in my country are corrupt but you can change the color of your tail lights and third brake light to any color you want in the Philippines as long as it is not the same color the body of the car
just sucks because i have made so many clears for civics and hondas for super cheap. then i bought an nb miata and altezzas are $400 😕 when ebay, for civics and most older hondas i can buy clears for $100 or altezzas for $60 unfortunate miata stuff is so expensive
I have a 2010 Toyota Camry SE. Does anyone know if the lense is clear on the tails? It looks clear with red diffusers inside but I'm not 💯 sure. I plan on customizing them for a future project so I haven't removed them yet. Also, how are they sealed? Permasealed?
Nice! I did a quick search and there seems to be many different light options for the Camry. ive never opened them up before so im not sure how they are sealed up
