In today's video, we discuss one of my all time favorite watchmakers; Doxa. Doxa is most famous for producing dive watches, but they actually have a long history of innovation and excellence in a number of fields. I'll also be discussing the Doxa Sub and Doxa Conquistador watches among others. Stay tuned to learn more! If you have any questions/comments please leave them below and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Pleasant video. When you mention Doxa, you are reminded of Jacques Cousteau who wore one. The name speaks for itself.

What I love about Doxa is it is form follows function mentality it is a tool watch and more specifically it is a diver tool watch and that is what it does, and does well.

Great overview of the Doxa brand, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said a lot of mainstream watches are “generic watches” A lot of dive watches are loosely based around the Rolex submariner, this is not a bad thing but as you said it makes them uninteresting unlike the Doxa sub which I completely unique. Also I find a lot of people go out and buy an omega / tag / Breitling etc in a boutique just because they want a status symbol, something that can be recognised as an expense luxury watch. I have often complemented people on their watch’s and they know absolutely nothing about them other than it’s a Rolex or omega etc. With a Doxa you would never get that, someone buying a Doxa would have almost always looked up and know about the watch they are buying as you never see them in shops. I hopefully will own one soon and I can’t wait to finally own a watch which looks original and is a genuine tool watch!

Nice video. I found out about Doxa after reading some Clive Cussler novels in what you would call senior high school. This would have been in the early 90’s. Clive’s books kept the Doxa name alive in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s why they gave the first 2002 reissue 1/1000 to Clive.

Really loved the video. We used to have the old classic Doxa's in Eastern Europe. Not so much of the Subs. However I fell in Love with them and no I'm waiting to take delivery of my 1200t Caribbean. I share your view on other mainstreet divers, they all very good but no personality. But a Doxa Sub will be always a unique timepiece.

So cool that you found out about doxa from the movie Sahara! The character that Matthew McConaughy is playing is named Dirk Pitt, there is a whole book series (think James Bond) with that character and the author Clive Cussler (also wears a doxa) is sure to mention the doxa in every single book! 10/10 would recommend the series!!

I own two Doxa watches, the Sub 300T Professional and the Sub 200 Aquamarine. Both run on the ETA 2824-2 movement and I'm getting accuracy of about 4 seconds per day in a case that feels like it could survive a grenade going off under it. Brilliant watches!

Great video really really informative. I really only knew about Doxa because of Jacques Cousteau and the sub 300. So happy to learn more about a brand that I really think breaks the mold. I think these brand over views is a very unique format and don't see a lot of people doing them.

Informative video, its nice to get the entire history. Doxa was the 1st USA retailed brand by Jaques Cousteau's diving equipment company. The truth is most swiss watch "houses" produce "diving" watches and use to good effect their heritage to market their product. The trouble is, IMO most of these watches with their fancy mouvements, complications, ceramic bezels and saphire cristal display backs are merely a "homage" to their tool watch past. More desk divers than genuine diving watches. I wish Doxa would move on though and recreate a genuine new diving watch. For instance, a quartz movement is far more appropriate for heavy use, more fit for purpose. Either way getting away from that generic ETA2824 would be good. Not that watches are needed nowadays for diving but the "purest" diver I've used that is really fit for purpose is a Seiko Professional Marinemaster 1000m quartz, AKA the "Tuna" (the 300 does the job at a fraction of the price too) - but as the name suggests, it is a professional watch and comes with the compromises as a daily wearer attributed to its function. Its big (legible) and looks like a tool, its not fancy.

I own a 1500T and it is by far the most overbuilt watch I've ever owned... it is an absolute tank. I've never owned a Submariner, but have handled a few and there is no comparison, in my opinion, as far as which one is the real tool watch. Viva Doxa!

Nice video - really interesting stuff on the brand. Well researched. I'm just getting into Doxa and as a diver I see them as very characterful and true tools. A reasonable price too. Legit! I also agree with you re Oris - killing it at the moment.

Before I delve into it a quick watch check, I have on my wrist the SUB 1500T searambler. So, as a third generation of doxa owner in my family, personally owned 4 of them, only have 3 right now, I must say something which will not be very popular, DOXA was great, DOXA was innovative, DOXA was....a lot of things, but today, they dont do jackshit anything new, they dont innovate, and even the quality is lackluster, not bad , just not what it used to be. The owners are just riding the wave of fame they got in the 60s and a clever use of internet marketing. They are great looking watches, but they didnt bring anything new to the market since their relaunch in 2002, just reissues of the same old designs from the 60s. I mean its fine, but its not a sustainable business model.

Fiiiinallly. I thought I was the only person that thinks rolex etc are actually ugly af watches. I find most watches from $2k-10k are ugly stainless watches and anything over or under are really stylish..imo
@apexkit220
@apexkit220 5 лет назад
I didn’t say Rolex made ugly watches, but u make a really good point actually. A lot of people spending in that bracket are looking to get their one luxury watch and are not watch people in the sense that they want to collect. So it makes sense that a lot of entry level luxury brands such as omega Breitling and Rolex produce fairly generic versatile steel sports watches to meet those needs. My dads retired special forces among other things and the only watch he really ever wears is his sub - it’s just a different mentality. And I call Rolex entry level luxury because in the grand scheme of horology (Richard mille, FP Journe, ALS, etc) it’s a fitting title, not trying to be arrogant. And yeah it’s VERY true that a lot of interesting and beautiful watches are either below or above that bracket
@e.d.4824

So everything between 2k and 10k is "ugly af"! Interesting... Sad, actually
