@@SpazzyjonesGaming I just caught one today. Had to mash e when it was on my line above the water line. I wasn't able to reel it in on my own, but my skill was low and my diet was onion soup, bread, and blood pud. mine is a pike
2:45 I have actually caught a level 5 Grouper fish. Wasn't using any mods/cheats or any changes to world settings. I was building an island base in a plains biome but it's surrounded by Ocean. Fish wash up on the island regularly because of the waves and I saw this massive Grouper and was shocked when I picked it up. I have it hanging on display in my base lol, it's too precious to eat!
It´s one of those things i will propably never craft. If i am able to catch every fish there is in all biomes, wich i need to craft the hat, i already have more fish than i will ever need. And tbh i can´t imagine that changing with the Ashlands update. Unless all new Ashlands food is fish based. Wich would be weird for that biome.
I came across the tetra pond in my first play through, they were just jumping out of the water at me, got loads and didn't even need to get my rod out it was like 8 or something. xD
First time fishing in valheim caught qual 5 trollfish then went the next day and caught a qual 5 pike. Super hard to catch and it drains your stamina instantly. I was lucky to find them out on a karve and they’re pretty easy to spot considering how large they are. If you do manage to see one, it’ll probably be the only qual 5 fish in the area you’re in.
Although I'll second that by saying after you go through all the grinding of getting your hands on the trophies and crafting the bait THEN managing to actually real one in... it is super rewarding😅
Reeling without a fish and having the rested buff I find to gain xp faster. There's no down time in waiting for the fish to bite and not to mention you will save 10's of thousands in coin from buying bait by the time you reach lvl 100. I think it would be better to eat what you catch rather than play catch and release to boost xp.
I found a 5 Star Coral Cod. It was humongous. Currently I am actively trying to catch all 5 Star fishes so Incan display them all together. Would love to finish it one day. 🙊
It would be nice to acquire the hat earlier to assist with catching all the fish, even if it was an NPC quest. By the time I got the materials for this hat, I would be sick of fishing.
Thanks - I had never heard of the fishing hat. You didn't mention that you were wearing the cap and tunic from Hildir which gives a combined decrease in stamina usage of 35%.
Hildirs stamina buff doesn't apply to fishing. It only applies when you are using the hammer, and hoe! I was testing if it applies to fishing while capturing footage for the video and proved it doesn't. But yeah, that's why I'm wearing it in the video
I must have been tricked by the high level stamina food I was eating. In any case, we got the hats today (myself and a teammate). Mine gives +19 swim & +20 fishing, my teammate gives +19 for both, so something strange there. I stocked our swimming pool with Perch & Pike to make the fish farm - had around 20 in there. Surprised to find one morning that there were 2 perch and 3 pike! Turns out they had stacked like they do in inventory, except in the water. I can understand this for wood or rocks etc, but not for fish. We sometimes had a helicopter effect - the fish on the line spinning around our heads at high speed. Not sure if this is a known issue, but has to be a bug. I also watched a fishing video where it said that it doesn't matter where you cast, you won't lose your bait if a fish doesn't bite - he demonstrated by casting on land. I tried this and on the first cast I landed a level 1 pike - yes - when casting on land! I was near the fish farm so this will be where the fish came from, but I had cast in the opposite direction and was about 20m away. Also, the fish came straight out of the ground in front of me. So I tried a few more times and caught a level 3 pike. At least this time the line went all the way back to the fish farm. Very strange behaviour. @@SpazzyjonesGaming
I have seen and caught some quality 5 fish but not all types of fish have it. I believe I caught a lvl 5 Pike, perch, Tuna, coral cod and magma fish. only seen lvl 4 troll fish, salmon, herring and grouper, as for tetra, angler and pufferfish I've never seen one above lvl 2
so far ive gotten a level 5 puffer level 5 northern salmon and a level 5 pike. the only fish im uncertain of is terra ive only seen in the wild or on the discord is level 3
Managed to get a level 5 coral cod. Tetra are very weird, I caught some lvl1s however they didn't seem to respawn. Might need a new cave/world as there was issues when the fishing update first dropped.
In this game lots of things are dumb! Fishing hat is usless till the end of the game. Why would I craft it if I'm already a fishing level so high "Fishing hat is an armor piece which can be crafted and upgraded at the Workbench. It provides a +20 skill bonus to Fishing and Swimming." "Players need to catch every single kind of fish from all existing biomes (from Meadows to Deep North) in order to craft the fishing hat. A player who wishes to craft and upgrade the hat to rank 4 requires a total of seven of each kind of fish. Any quality level of fish may be used to craft it."
Honestly, fishing is clearly an unpolished skill, I wish they would have taken more time fleshing out the feature and only then adding it. Finding the stupid merchant is such a drag to begin with, I find Haldor in 2 out of 10 playthroughs at best!
@SpazzyjonesGaming I could send you my screen cap if you want it lol maybe feature it in a video if you want. Also the trick is to snag the fish as it's right under your boat and then spam E.
Hey, when i was trying to throw fish back into the water, they were inactive. just floating like objects. Are they truly catchable again? If so, i could make a pond at my base with all fish in it
They will begin swimming again once they land in the water. You can absolutely make a pond at your base! Just make sure you have a workbench nearby so they don't despaw
I've heard a few people complaining about this. This video was made before the Ashlands update and I think something maybe broke the spawning of them since. Im going to guess it will be fixed but yeah, its my guess there may be a bug preventing their spawn since the update
it is tricky. You basically want to place the lure as close to shore as possible to reduce how far you have to pull them in. Also, when they are trashing its best to stop reeling in and wait for them to stop thrashing (i think this helps)
@@SpazzyjonesGaming yeah, i have had a suspicion about the splashing to be part of the mechanisms but never gotten a good feel about it matters or not.
ah man,... why did they have to make that recipe so annoying now i gotta go out lookin for a sea serpent to get the trophy, yuck i hate those things XD
Personally I don't think so. The only fish I find worth catching is the angler fish for the best stamina food in the game but thats a super late game food
