Dope review Dev! (and what a dope a** beat too!) If one knows Jaycens methods/workflow, an easy assesment of Orion will be, that it is replacing the C DRUMS and C DRUMS M: Color: NLS Busses Harmonics: RBass Compression: SHMC Lift Probably some sort of BlackBox/Spiff combo Harmonic EQ: Spectre-like harmonic EQ Sliders (Jaycens' 4 auxes): Sub = Sub Low = Lo-Air Loud = Transformer 1 Grit = Transformer 2 Clipping/limiting is then still done separately on the DRUM N BASS aux if needed. (I know a lot of ppl would've loved to see a clipper on the end) Running the plugin in PluginDoctor will let you know that even tho the ideology/method of the plugin is the same as the above mentioned, the sound is NOT as the curves in the plugin differs to Jaycen's "old method" with using individual plugins/busses/auxes - if that's a good thing, who cares... I love it 😂🎉
28:09 sounds much wider/fuller when "engaged".. might have to try the demo this week.. Lord knows I don't need any more plugins, but what's 1 more to the 400 others 😂😂
facts i just stick to the tried and tested (omnisphere, nexus, kontakt, arturia, etc.) it makes it way easier to make decisions instead of having to pick from thousands of plugins and forgetting abt half of them
is this 1:1 just his drum chain, just as a single plugin? even including the corresponding parallels? (nls->rbass->shadow hills->blackbox->spiff->standardclip into parallels)
Its music tech. I know deep down tons of people are going to downlaod this thing and have a million questions. Thus thus video exist to answer them! Breakdown video
It does so much that im taking my time with experimenting with it in ways that it wasnt even intended. My thing is having these parallel processes right there makes me wonder how i could use that to my advantage with other material
Everyone wants to sound like (copy) Jaycen. The whole world is becoming copies of other people, people idolize other people far too much, you should not idolize anyone but Jesus.
😂😂😂 no one will ever sound exactly the same when it comes to mixing different material. Adding this to your music should just help you get there quicker and then work on other creative things more towards sound design and flavor. Studying someone’s process to create your own isn’t idolizing
@@henrymyname8259 I agree, but people just straight up copy thinking that they will sound like him because the are using the same plugins with same settings.
@@RichardRosiles A fairly tale that has captured billions of lives through thousands of years of worship. So you think you are smarter than thousands of years of humans lives? You are like only 40 years old.
man devvon i love love love your channel and learned soooo much, thank you for that a million times!! but please, don't become one of those channels that pop out with a review for all the new plugins devolopers throw their money on advertising via music influencers..
Just a breakdown understand that I kno deep down people are gonna download this thing and have a ton of questions thus why I enjoy getting the information from them and then helping other people also understand the plugin and letting u make the decision for yourself. If I do a “review” I’ll definitely say this is a review. This here is a breakdown showing u the ins and outs of the plugin!
@@HelpMeDevvon yeah man sure, don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have a all in one solution for my drum bus so I don’t get a headache every time i choose plugins for it and mangling them around, but right after I clicked on your video my RU-vid page recommended me like 3 other music RU-vidr making a video about this plug-in with the “contains paid advertisement” disclaimer at the top which just leaves some kind of bitter mark if you know what I mean, like the developer literally tries to shove it in my face, even tho the plug-in probably is fire!
@@roninthegoat2810 I get it but what i try to give is insight. In the video i say i got the chance to speak with Jaycen and Cradle about it and got the full blown understanding. Now im equipped to give a very detailed breakdown and understanding of this plugin which i think is going to be the most hyped plugin release of the year. Countless people are going to be looking for information on it and i get the chance to explain it in great detail the RIGHT WAY. There will be tons of reviews on this plugin. Id rather break down the plugin in and out and then let you decide for yourself! I appreciate your perspective. Trust me i get asked to break down alot of horrible plugins but i only breakdown the ones that i feel have actual value to my audience.
Great job like always. Proud of you. But does this mean JJ no longer use his other Processing like the NLS buss, Transformer 1 & 2 on his drum buss. But use just Orion?
U know I respect Jaycen and I’m sure the plugin is fire because him and cradle already made the god particle. But I feel this is just a play kinda like music artist with bundles if you buy one you might as well buy the others even though the god particle is already enough
Na your mistaken. This thing is actually amazing. Idk what you’re talking about but this is no gimmick. Both Orion and the god particle are amazing at what they are designed to do.
@@SiQuemaCuhh I never said the plugin was bad I was saying g the god particle already clips distorts and adds a character to your drums so this plugin just seems like a cash grab for him and cradle
I find that, most of the time, once level matched (this is key), knock actually lessens the punch of my drum bus. Even when used conservatively... My preferred drum bus chain these days is H-Comp-Apogee Soft Clipper-Newfangled saturate (hard clipper)-Gullfoss Master-Spectre shit SMACKS
Thank you Devvon for your insight full review! I was wondering how does this work with hi percussion ( hats, cymbals,…) because obviously J didn’t rout his hats on his drum buss, so the NLS and drum buss was only effecting kick and snare. In the beginning of using his chain I was routing everything and I realize the hats was so harsh. So I’m wondering how does it Orion compare to his original chains.
Ever since you said you been putting god particle to the drum bus i started doing it and most times it gives me that hmmth .Limiter off of course and gain matched. This might just be that in depth.....kinda sold......kinda downloading lol
Orion is a great plugin. I did two sessions last night trying it on drums. I instantly was drawn to the FL inspired preset. Cradle and Jaycen Joshua pulled up with this one 🔥
Going from one of the better teachers on RU-vid to a gear and plugin influencer is kind of dissapointing, having said that I learned a lot from you, thank you.
Great review! I’m not sure ‘ideology’ is the best word choice here, though. 😊 ‘Ideology’ usually refers to a system of beliefs or ideas held by people or groups. Something like ‘philosophy’ or ‘design principles’ might fit better in this context.
Were sadly getting to a point where there is no magic in making music. Everything is done for you. This is creating a boring soulless style of music. Why? because it was the tedious processes, the brain wrangling ideas that we stumbled across unexpectantly; that made hits from pure original hard work and late night mixing in an unorthodox methods which created musical genres. Now beat makers can use a beat they didn't make or mix and practically AI everything else. At some point our dependance on bells and whistles will be our undoing. If you think music is better now you're probably under 30 years old. I don't listen to most of the stuff the new school been making because it all sounds alike. The acts look alike. The beats are the same the subject matter is the same. This plug in craze has hurt our creativity. Not saying its not nice to have a few toys. But enough is enough. Not buying anymore plugins that do what I already been doing with other means. If you want to make money start selling plug ins. That's what the industry has secretly been pushing. Why sell a record at $15 when you can sell a million copies of Orion at a couple hundred bucks. Sheeeeesh!!!
I like making music. Don't realy like sitting and tweaking and gain matching, though. It's part of it ,but i do not enjoy it. I like the creative paty of making music. Not every one likes the technical aspect.
Im guessing this is to replace Knock so I’m probably not going to get this right away because I’m still getting used to Knock but I’ll eventually give it a shot for a nice A/B
Multiple compressions, EQ, multiple saturation types, multiple parallel processes, no clipper. This, at least attempts, multiple things that Knock doesn't touch. There's not a ton of overlap between the 2 products, +to me+.
I noticed that, after engaging the saturation module, you lost 2.5 dB of headroom without gaining much volume. I prefer saturation that GAINS headroom. That was a little bit of a bummer to see. But i'm still early in the review.
@@HelpMeDevvon Man I just spent a few hours demo'ing the plugin at all types of different settings, from fully engaged to only using individual modules- and it's a no for me... Didn't beat or add anything to my current drum bus chain. And I was extremely careful to level match. It actually lessened the punch, smeared transients, narrowed the stereo field, and lost depth. Huge disappointment but glad I got the free demo first.
I’d love to see what people experiment and come up with honestly. There’s so many modules that I can see used for different things. It’s def worth a try 🤷🏽♂️
@@HelpMeDevvon hi, am referring to the drum sounds you used to demo Orion...for sure the Orion plugin is dope! But even before any of it, the drums are great...was asking if you could share what sample pack they are from. Thank you for all you do for the community
