Luxembourg is a tiny country sandwiched between Germany, Belgium and France, whose population is barely the size of Portland, Oregon. However, there's a lot more to it than may initially reach the eye.

I was just talking about Luxembourg with my grandparents. We got very confused as to why it exists, but I guess being a major fortification between Germany and France always helps matters.
@ReddoFreddo
@ReddoFreddo 3 года назад
When you boil it down there's no good reason why any country exists, other than that the people that live on that land want it to exist. The reason they want it to exist is usually because the countries next to them don't want them to exist, and it would be awkward if they lived in the same country.

Interesting Luxembourg facts: I live in it. If you send a letter to state in German, French or Luxembourgish, the state is required to give you a response in the respective language you chose. The Luxembourgish Bus Lines exist in the hundreds or maybe thousands.(They’re basically Paris’ metro system but better, in bus lines form and not just in one city)

Hi! My father is living in Luxembourg and this year I'm gonna start living there and I have lots of cuestions about the country and the educational system since I'm living in Spain and know ther's literally no one who can answer my doubts, so if you are reading this and you can help me I would thank a lot. 1- Does every one over 15 years speak english? Or ''only'' german, french and luxemburgish? 2- How's school in there? How many students are in a class? 3- Is people nice there? I know this might depend but I'm super nervous about having to speak in french the whole time and I'm not capable to speak german or luxemburgish, so I feel insecure about being alone because of the lenguage 4- In french when you first meet a new classmate (like 14 years old, like me), you have to speak with ''vous'' or ''tu'' beacause here in spain we rarelly speak with ''vous'' unless it's a very old person (we never say ''vous'' to the teachers, for example) 5- Please, could you tell me some cool places to hang out with friends? It's not a really big country so there are lots of aviable experiences that I would love to archive in order to be more integrated with the locals. 6- Are there as many portuguese people as they say? If it's true it would be great for me because portuguese is really similar to spanish Thanks for reading! (and maybe answering) And sorry if my english is not very well, I did as well as I could

Luxembourg's motto is "Mir wëlle bleiwe wat mir sinn", which means "We want to remain what we are". This motto comes from the chorus of the 1859 patriotic song "De Feierwon", and refers to the fact that Luxembourg wants to stay independent from its neighboring countries. Out of context, I think it's one of the stranger mottoes out there. It makes it sound like they hate change.

Hi @Ice bear . I doubt that you still need this, but: Yes, everyone speaks English. It’s really common for people to speak at least 4 languages. It really depends for each school, but I’d say that less than in Spain. Yup, everyone is super nice. And don’t worry ab not speaking Luxembourgish there. I’ve lived for 14 years in Luxembourg and still don’t know any. No, we don’t really speak in “vous”, just take a friendly approach. There aren’t many places to hang out, but the city centre is fine. You can also go to the cinemas and to the Auchamp supermarket in Kirchberg. It’s true that there are many Portuguese people, but it’s not like something you really notice

Letzelburgisch is a German dialect. A franconian language very similar to the rest of the German dialect spoken in the region. But Luxemburg didn’t join the German standardization convention on the writing but keeps writing as they speaks. Compared to Switzerland, which also has a heavy dialect and a Swabian-Alleman language which is very distinct from the artificial High German, but Switzerland uses the conventional German writing system as does Germany and Austria. The Netherlands are also similar to Luxemburg in this regard, although their German dialects are both Franconian in the Hollands like Letzelbergisch or Moseldeutsch and also Nethersaxon like the old dialects of Lower Saxony in the Eastern Netherlands or Northern Germany.

The European Union is actually based off the Dutch union. *BENELUX* With so many lager neighboring nations/countries, you need Allies with common threats. Belgium - NETHERLANDS - Luxembourg.... Following the (trade) union after the splitting of the Netherlands into Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Luxembourg has a very good, strong strategic location. As you pointed out, and if the Netherlands compares to a postage stamp in size, Luxembourg is the size of a green bean, from the princes and the bean. As a Nederlander, I find it strange how these facts always seem to slip the cracks while others from other nations try to explain things. You need to understand the full history of Europe, West and East in connection to the Roman Empire and the state religion Christianity. With this you need to know we have been ruled by many other nations cultures before we got our own, officially. And still the map is not the same as the location.
