This is a beginner’s tutorial to making a balloon garland with a strip - this video is for the DIYer who doesn’t want to hire a professional balloon artist (or can’t get one because they’re all booked - this is a real problem these days!).
00:41 Unpacking your balloon garland kit
02:05 The 2 types of strips
03:10 If you want to go the EXTRA mile (totally optional)
03:50 The two ways to build a strip garland
13:39 How to hang a strip garland
16:51 The finished strip garland!
It is SUPER easy to make balloon garlands out of strips, and this creation took me about 20-30 minutes to do.
This video is FULL of tips for making a balloon garland with a strip, including:
- How to use single hole strips & double hole strips.
- How to know when to add in small balloons.
- What to do when your balloons are tight together and the strip isn’t cooperating.
- Troubleshooting what to do when balloons are popping out of your strip (and how to keep them from popping out of the strip).
- How to achieve a bubbly, organic garland.
- The simple tip to making a DIY garland look professional.
- What a pear-shaped balloon means.
- How to insert large balloons (17, 24, 36) into your strip garland.

Let me start by saying, I've never made a balloon garland before! I'm throwing a gender reveal for a friend today and decided to do a balloon garland. This video was SO helpful, but... I ran out of balloon strip. I had a ton more balloons to use. So, I used the cluster method from your other videos and made it happen!! It's gorgeous and I'm so excited about it. Thank you Rachel!

OMG Rachel, i tried both the single hole strips and the double hole strips and the double hole strip is hands down the best of the two. i am making a balloon garland for the first time for my daughter's baby shower. At first, I was so stressed out, but after watching your video about ten times, i felt confident that I can do this. I also want to add that is would helpful if you would not talk so fast because that is the reason why i had to watch the video so many times to understand what you were saying. Please don't take offense to this, Rachel. I just think it might help. Thank you for putting out this video.

I had a go at this for my daughters Birthday. Got a kit off Amazon for £10 and have to say it turned out Amazing for my first attempt . I found tying the balloons the most challenging ( nearly cutting off the circulation in my fingers at one point ) but it got easier as I went along : ) Would definitely give it another go. Took me 3 hours to complete though, but was worth it.

Oh that's so awesome Emily! Congrats on doing your first one! Yes, this method (single-tying balloons and using a strip) is so hard on the fingers! Believe it or not, the professional methods I teach in my other videos are actually SO much easier on the fingers : ) I hope you do keep creating more and having fun with it, thanks for sharing! And HBD to your daughter! XOXO, Rach

@BubblyBalloonCo 3 года назад
Hi Gabby, good question! I would inflate a few balloons as soon as your kit arrives and see how they age over the coming days. If they look pretty unchanged, the night before or even a day or so in advance could be safe, as long as it'll be indoors and out of direct sunlight. XOXO, Rach

This is a wonderful video! Thank you for saving me for my daughter’s party this weekend haha! If I could make a couple friendly suggestion that I think may help you out a little? First is maybe talk a little slower; even tho I appreciate the video being fast and to the point, it does feel a little quick and the other is to invest in a microphone for the sound and audio quality. I’m not sure what you use now, but it sounds like you’re not using a separate microphone so it sounds very grainy and echos slightly on a iPhone. Amazon has some cheap microphones that attach to phones, cameras and video recorders but if you’re doing this for your profession investing in good a quality microphone and lighting is essential. Other than that it’s the perfect backdrop, you do a AMAZING job explaining and showing how to do everything even down to how to tie a ballon and the 2 different styles (1-2 hole plastic pieces)! Your video is the only one I watched out of probably 20-30 that I watched finish to end and even went back a few times to parts. Another handy thing for us viewers is RU-vid allows you how to put a list of which parts start on the video. So you can do “intro”: allows us to click it and it will take us to the beginning of you talking about what you’re going to do and then you can do let’s say: “size of balloons and materials, next: “how to tie and shape, next: “how to assemble and then finally “finished product”. That way we can click whatever we want to watch or need to go back to and rewatch easily. I find I like the videos more that have that feature. I hope this doesn’t come off wrong by sharing these things. I’m only trying to give advice so you can continue to succeed and I can continue to love your channel even more! Thank you for your knowledge, time, effort and for you being YOU! 🫶🏼

And especially the birthday cake alone it $100. So making these balloon kits myself will be more affordable

@5littletoes

Ilona, I did my very first balloon arch from a kit with the arch support poles. The estimated time was 40 minutes, but it took me 2 1/2 hours and I did it the night before the baby shower. I was so pleased with the results, only after watching her video twice. If I can do this, you certainly can. I must say, my thumb and forefinger was a bit sore afterwards from tying the balloons. I had an electric pump, rounded the balloons as she suggested and used the balloon arch poles, bases filled with water and balloon plastic rings, that held four balloons per ring and the ring slipped onto the pole.

@BubblyBalloonCo 2 года назад
Hi Desiree, that depends on how large it is and if setting up onsite is an option! I always feel “safer” setting up onsite but I have made a majority of my installs for clients ahead of time and then traveled with them, and done the finishing touches onsite once it’s been hung and installed. The only major risk is wind, dirt and possibly dog hair if you’re a dog mom 🙋🏼‍♀️ XOXO, Rach

Hey Michael! You'll have to play with it and you'll find a rhythm! I don't do a specific amount of time, personally, because I try to vary the size of the balloons, but when it starts getting egg or pear-shaped, that's definitely as large as I'd go! That's the max size : ) XOXO, Rach

Approximately how much time should i give myself to complete a 16' balloon garland? Is this something I can do the night before or will they deflate?
@BubblyBalloonCo
@BubblyBalloonCo 3 года назад
Hi there Pamela! Good question! Many balloon garlands will look perfect the next day, but I recommend testing by inflating a few balloons days before to see how they last over the first 48 hours to be sure yours will! If it’s your first time and you’re using a pump, I’d leave a few hours, at least. (If no pump - allow many extra hours in there for a trip to the ER - mostly joking.) 😜 XOXO, Rach

@@BubblyBalloonCo Definitely will NOT be inflating with hand pump or mouth. I purchased an electric pump after trying to inflate confetti balloons by mouth, lesson learned!

I was so glad also last week , I found the electric blow up balloon machine , instead of buying a helium tank from sams for $48 and it wouldnt have blown up all the balloons , Now I will be able to blow up many balloons & reuse the electric pump for many parties for our granddaughters, and our dil's 40th coming in November. God bless you Mrs josette Tharp Montgomery County, Texas Oh can I use the pump to blow up the big 40in 60 number balloons ???? Or do u have content on that ? I will look and new subscriber.

hi, my issue is that whenever I blow up my balloon, there is always a darker spot on the top of the balloon which I can't get rid of especially when I don't blow up my balloon all the way. Since it is in the middle of the balloon, it's very noticeable and I think it will make the garland look bad. Do you have any suggestions or ways to prevent it?
@BubblyBalloonCo
@BubblyBalloonCo 3 года назад
Hi Ashviny! I feel your pain! That unfortunately is present in a lot of lower quality balloons. 😞 I hardly ever see it in Qualatex or Tuftex, and if I do, I try double stuffing either with the same or a darker color to try to minimize its appearance. Check out video 5 of the Balloon Garland Basics Series on double stuffing for more info on how to do it 🙂 hope that helps! XOXO, Rach

Hello, love watching how easy you make this look! My first arch will be outside in July. I've read reviews online how balloons have popped due to the heat. Pls recommend a good brand so that this doesn't happen to me. Also, would you do a video on hpw to double stuff balloons? Thx
@BubblyBalloonCo
@BubblyBalloonCo Год назад
Hey there! I have a whole video comparing quality of balloons on an outdoor project. July heat is tough so take precautions and expect some to pop, that’s the nature of balloons sadly. But Qualatex or Kalisan will likely fare best in my experience. I also cover tips in those videos of how to make it perform better outdoors. And I have a tutorial on double stuffing! Check out my balloon garland basics series, I think it’s video five in that one! XOXO, Rach

Can you start making the Garland 2 days ahead of the event..
@BubblyBalloonCo
@BubblyBalloonCo 3 года назад
Hi Annette! Good question. A lot of times that is fine, it all depends on the quality of the balloons and how they hold up. My advice (and what I do myself) is: as soon as your balloons arrive, inflate a few (at least one of each color) and see how they last over the coming days. How do they look after 2, 3, 4 days? If they've shrunk, shriveled, or deflated, I'd wait to inflate until as close to the event as possible. Most of the time, though, it's fine to start a day or two early! As long as you keep them inside and safe! XOXO, Rach

Ugh I feel you on this. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to start any other way than with the strip but it is sooo tedious. Once I learned how to make it without I’ve never gone back, that’s for sure.
