This is a video that has pretty much everything you need to know about pop-pop boats, everything from how to get them going to how to finish using them.
I have also included a short clip at the end that shows you how to use them with Oil.
If you want to attempt to make one yourself, this is the tutorial that I used to make one (the one that I made did not work as well as the ones that are in the video, I got those off eBay).

I'm 45 years old and just this morning have heard of these. My right leg was crushed and put back together with plates , rods , bolts. Also several back surgeries. The point of the medical history is that now I spend lots of time soaking in hot water for relief. These lill boats would be great entertainment for an old cripple to play with while in the tub. I realize they're made for kids ,but so are motor scooters and women's boobs but men still love playing with them as well.

@seterry actually its by the water expanding to steam that cause the popping sound
@GoldenHay1
@GoldenHay1 8 лет назад
I like it, because it uses steam and because it is so very simple.And simple is always good.Someone should build a life size one!
@-pyrosef-
@-pyrosef- 8 лет назад
+LineoLemon Ehh, compared to other fuels, steam is very costly and not that efficient. Water has a property that makes it able to absorb alot of heat before transitioning to a new state of matter. ie it takes more energy to heat up water by 1 degree than it takes to heat up alcohol by the same amount. But on the other side water is a good insulator!
@GoldenHay1
@GoldenHay1 8 лет назад
Stephen Fabiano Atomic plants use steam to power turbines, which then produce electricity.
@-pyrosef-
@-pyrosef- 8 лет назад
Do you know in which way they create the steam? One of the most common of nuclear reactors is the Light Water Reactors (LWR) which *solely* relies on a constant flow of water to absorb the massive amounts of heat that fission produces. (which backs up the point of why water is a good insulator) This water turns to steam and then instead of wasting potential energy they run the steam through turbines to make the whole process more efficient. They dont use steam because they prefer it, they choose it cause its a free bi-product But you had a good notion, not many people know things like that. I'll provide a citation just in case you wanna look into it. ieer.org/resource/factsheets/types-of-nuclear-reactors/
@-pyrosef-
@-pyrosef- 8 лет назад
But for these type of projects i think steam is fucking awesome. I was only talking practical efficiency lol. I'm in the process of making one of these too, just need to make a boiler.
@ManuelAlejandroAlma
@ManuelAlejandroAlma 12 лет назад
@mahela1993 Well the boiler is made from a soda can. It's just a bunch of folds, glue, and bendy straws. then you just put it on a homemade boat.
@munkylad545
@munkylad545 15 лет назад
it work by the water droplets in the boiler and when it boils, it begins to fill with steam and makes the steam release through the pipe.
@jsb6jsb12
@jsb6jsb12 13 лет назад
@iammuthu0 no i have one its because of the metal expanding and contracting because of the pressure of the steam. the boilers are so thin on the top layer for that reason so when it expands cause of the pressure it drags water inside the boiler. make the same noise when you push a dent in a can and then pop it out. you know that sound that annoys everyone
@forresttrenaman
@forresttrenaman 15 лет назад
It sucks up water and then the candle heats up the water in the boiler witch makes it turn to steam, so that forces the water out the tubes witch propels the boat forwards, then the steam cools down and turns back into water and sucks more water into the boiler and it happens over and over again.

@DarylFosterPuttPutt4Video
@DarylFosterPuttPutt4Video 10 лет назад
Yes they will work in hot water though close to boiling would cause a problem as the steam made by the boat has to condense to continue the cycle.
@DarylFosterPuttPutt4Video
@DarylFosterPuttPutt4Video 10 лет назад
Roger. Actually there is quite a lot more to know about pop pop boats than what is in this video, particularly if you want to build one that is fast, dependable and will not easily break.

I thought about that but the problem is, is that you would never be able to heat up the water in the boiler fast enough for it to flash to steam.

@Danielkwalsh
@Danielkwalsh 12 лет назад
Shouldn't you be able to fill it at a lake WITHOUT an eyedropper simply by submerging only one of the tubes into the body of water (holding the boiler underwater)? The water would enter the tube due to the difference in pressure, and the air would exit through the other tube.
