I moved to Upstate NY from someplace with very expensive housing. Within 7 years I'd paid off my ENTIRE mortgage....20 years later, I can tell you that the sort of peace of mind that brings is worth much more than any trouble winter weather has ever brought me.
JEEEZ I love that! Thank you for sharing this - So many people get distracted by some of the things that a medium size city may lack and ignore all the amazing things that the area can offer. What a great testimony!
"Makes no difference where I go, you're the best hometown I know. Hello Rochester, HELLO ROCHESTER ... 13 loves you!" Third season in a row that I haven't fired up my snowblower. October/November are now the two best months of the year! Rochester is SO underrated. Low cost of living, great arts, sports, food festivals, RPO, The Fingerlakes, wineries, great colleges/universities, On and on.
Was out there working for a month and a half a few years ago. Thought it was dope. Theres a music scene, which I enjoyed. The cold and driving conditions are shit but it makes nights out more intimate and warm feeling. People were also real cool.
I just moved to Rochester New York 💕 God really have a sense of humor ❤ I prayed for Tampa Florida. In spite of the negative news. I am so grateful for the amazing experience. I see hurting souls as God’s special people. They are very kind once you get to know them. During my moving I fell on black ice. You talking neighborhood coming together.💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🌻🌻🌻🌻🙏🙏🙏
Awesome! Make sure you take advanatage of everything Rochester has to offer, There really is a lot going on here. Don't sit inside and do nothing all day. Get out and make good of it! Good Luck!
@@SpeedGz-x6f I moved away to the Adirondacks for barely a year and half. We could not wait to move back!! So much life and culture hear. Plus excellent medical. You you need to leave your little box and explore....
I agree with almost everything he said about weather here in Rochester. Summers are the payoff for the long cold winters. I'm consistently impressed with how WELL people deal with driving in all the snow. We get snow tires and I try to avoid heading out at rush hour on the very snowiest days but I have driven all the way from Victor to Greece on VERY snowy days when the road was entirely packed snow and had a totally easy relatively fast trip. But I'm not doing it at 8 am or 5 pm. One thing that surprised us is how often it is windy here.
@@joshuabatres182I live in the Rochester suburbs. The sidewalks are great for getting exercise, but not as a form of transportation. I lived in the downtown area and I could
Why would you ever live car free? I prefer autonomy. As well as you're clearly not a leader in your family because i have to make sure I can get people to safety and move equipment...
I saw my house on Rutgers st in the bottom left of the screen when you had the aerial shots of downtown from hovering above Park Ave. THAT is the best section of town to live in- in the city. Now I still ride my bike all over the entire city- even through the hoods. I’m not scared of what these news watching, car driving, cul-de-sac-living, youtube commenters say about crime or whatever. If you are not looking for, or participating in dangerous games, you’ll be just fine. If you move here to deal drugs or displace those who currently do, you should definitely watch yoback!
Haha I don’t watch the news, we don’t watch TV in our house - I do drive a car because I have a job that requires me to and I do other things that require a car? - but I don’t live in a cul de sac, and I’m not a RU-vid commentator. I am a Realtor who creates content for people who are moving here. Before this is used to drive Lyft and Uber at night (7pm- 2am) in the “Bad area”, as well as around the city while I was trying to get my business up and running. I never called the “bad area” that, but the people getting in my car who lived there did. They all would tell me stories of nightly things that would happen. I’m not afraid of the bad areas of town. I am protected (and we’ll trained) everywhere that I go, even when I’m in an area that is super affluent. I don’t leave the house without my own protection. So I don’t necessarily fit into the category that you put me in. That said, I encourage my clients to live where ever they want to live. I will provide them links for crime maps so they can do their own research, because they ask me about the “safe parts”, to which I’m not allowed to answer. Most people, based on THEIR research choose to move to the areas you live in, if they’re drawn to the city life. If not they choose Irondequoit, Henrietta, Penfield, Fairport, Victor, Canandaigua. Additionally, I’d advise everyone to stay out of dealing drugs, or doing them, for obvious reasons. Appreciate the comment, Matt!
I never thought someone from Boston would want more cold weather. I'm in Georgia and it's extremely hot and humid for the majority of the year. Like yourself, I'm sick of the heat and want to live somewhere that is cold for the majority of the year. Take care👍
I really loved living there in Rochester, Batavia, cause most of my family was born and raised there. The big differences you'd eventually start to notice about my birth state from the south is that, it's a a litter bug, money laundering and begging for, dangerous wild animals being reported on the news sites Stew. The amount of young adults being accepted and made into doctors and surgeons is insane because they have doctors that are misbehaving young adults that seem to reflect off of how middle school students behavior would compare with theres. I used to live in a neighborhood which was sadly realized by many to be one of the most rogue nieghborhoods in my birth state, mainly because there's medium level violence and crimes being committed (but uncommonly) by kids that age range from teenagers to something just near the 18 years old range. I felt bad for a mom that lived in a town that I used to live in because she was crying and screaming on the phone to the school board that she doesn't want her kid kicked of school, the boy she raises was specifically that a Latino teenager who used racial profanity at school one time because students were tricking him into using the n word in class, sadly.... this has been known for a while in my birth state, but it's sad cause their terms of service policies and guidelines are very thick, so he wasn't suspended but kicked out, to have to attend any other new school one day, so sadly his mom shouted go to your room to him and after she slammed the phone she was crying my life is ruined, cause she was trying to get him to graduate what was one of the schools last hopes for a good school he had left that there was that'd consider letting him be in them as last resorts, so... You can only imagine if one day, thanks to this awful family, poorly raising their kids, you could only imagine if they considered going to a differente state to have him be enrolled in. He's really not as bad as ever for a kid, I got to notice, but he was a fool for being subdued by young girls to do what they told him to do while they were where doing whats wrong, trying to get this family to die of giving them more bad reputations every time they had the chance to have him be given other areas chances, so they weren't even in love with him at all, but just winking at him girls who were only ever trying to trick him and other kids into being bad who act alone as though they'd ever be attracted to him and other boys :\ In Batavia and Rochester though, women being slightly more shirt opened are almost always told by 19th century laws lovers though, it's illegal until the day people they reinstate the celebration of cause otherwise if those days are done again, their back at it with saying their towns don't agree to let there by rights for nudists to be in Rochester or Batavia naked.
Rochester and the surrounding area are beautiful. Yes, neighborhoods in the city need to be fixed. Regardless, I think upstate New York in general is a hidden gem.
Nailed ot with Rochester winters. If you like winter, its too much like 6 months of early wet spring. If you hate winter its just winter with more rain. Its awful because of how mild it has become in one direction or the other Over the past 20 years its become more and more unpredictable and impossible to plan around.
You mentioned some very good things about Rochester, however we have a higher per capita murder rate than NYC. Also, public schools in the city are generally very low-performing. I worked at East High for two years, and the last week I worked there, three staff members were assaulted by students.
Yes you’re 10000% correct! I stay away from things like that because I know great people like you will say them! I can get in a lot of trouble if I’m not careful about what I say so I’m making these videos I rely on good people like you to say the parts that I can’t say lol. Thank you for this, great info!!
I lived in Rochester from 1973 to 1984. Graduated from Edison Tech. High School. Very safe middle class neighborhood. Kodak was still the big company in town. Joined the military and came back in 1986 to visit family. Rochester had turned into a complete shithole. My old neighborhood had been run over by slum lords, an 8 year old boy had been shot in a drive -by, and my father's house had been robbed while he was at work.
I am a Rochester NY native and work full time and can just barely afford to pay bills. NY has the highest taxes in the country also the crime is out of control in the city now. Especially violent crime. Most employers pay around minimum wage here. Move somewhere else to be paid decently and not be taxed into poverty by the state.
Also for the section in video where you covered outdoors, remember Letchworth. And for higher ed , there is also Eastman School of Music. Where are you from originally ?
Lived in outskirts of city my whole life Recently moved more inside city Found out if you help certain people nearby such as some of the more respectable homeless with even giving them food (canned food) they will make sure your safe Actually had a banned from shelter beggar try to rush me and ask for money (way more than he really should) got inside my apartment and 3 guys that know me from helping out broke fingers and gave a lovely warning to find new area
Haha jeez what a story! I can’t imagine most people will like that story 😂 but it always helps to know people! Also helps to be armed and trained 😜 Glad you have people on your side!
yeah just stay out of the north side from east and north of the river east and to Irondequoit or anywhere the free needle 💉 or rock pipe handouts are > Just be smart > but this video is very truthful and all surrounding is really great PLUS greece webster Henrietta > People come from all over for these hospitals > love the music scene, Food and several of my best buddy’s have young families here and are all super safe and great fun !!
Lived in the greater Rochester area my entire life. This area USED to be a great place to live and grow up around…not anymore. Crime is through the roof, taxes are skyrocketing, education system is in the toilet, laws are out of control, businesses shutting down etc etc. Wear a bulletproof vest and don’t bring cash if you want to attend the downtown festivals. Can’t get out of this shit hole fast enough.
I’m heading to Rochester ny next week ! I hear ppl say it’s bad but I feel like it’s everywhere in general ( there’s just bad parts ) and I mind my business a lot so I know I’ll be good 💀
The background music is too loud terrible and distracting. It sounds like a 2 year old on a piano I live in Rochester. Love the seasons, the parks but other than that it sucks
Lilacs festival!!😂😂😂and there were murders in one of those trails!!! Spooky!! And delicious chicken fingers in Canton house!!😅😅😅oh yay farmers market!!!
I was there yesterday and its really bad a allot of drug addicts in the streets such a shame because it's a such beautiful city with allot of potential this really was turn off for me seen all of this drug addicts and crazy people in the streets.
Do you know how many days does it take to rent an apartment in Rochester or to sell a home usually how many days would it take a real estate company in Rochester to rent or sale a home on average?
i dont know what your talking about. oct 31 i remember snow and 10 below. i also remember 3 foot of snow the lowest amount of sunlight to the point the lake gets overrun with alge, murder capital drugs dead city.... omg rochester is a pit of chemicals
Yes I was in the Marine Corps - and the wooden one in the right of the screen is the American Flag (obviously), and the one hanging on the wall is the Buffalo Bills flag
YES its really that bad!! Your pit bull will love it,since everyone on the street has one! Do u speak spanish? It would help if u do! I wish i could! It use to be italian years ago! Snow- u bet!! Recently, Lake Ontario did NOT freeze!! You are across from Toronto! Property taxes are killer in NYS!! Its a great place but most of the high paying jobs are gone and so are the people!!
Where do they live? Take a look at the Rochester Police department crime map - it’s pretty abundant. It’s high crime city statistically. Of course, it depends where they are, but you can’t go out in the real world and not hear about it
Consider the taxes . Right thru the roof . My whole family is from here . State of New York gouges everyone just to pay for New York City . Crime out of control 5th in the Country for murder . Your music is nauseous.
oh wow youre right! Thats been a year since they made that change - I guess I didn't realize that actually happened. I remember hearing about it, but I didnt realize that they already did the name change. Thanks for the correction!
@@livinglargecoachingcounseling I appreciate the feedback - for now, I hope you can get through the music and into the information utilizing some of the skills I’d imagine you teach your patients and clients as a coach.
Mormons started in Palmyra, Ny Jehovah witness started in Rocester and the annual convention is in Rochester EVERY YEAR!! 7TH DAY ADVENTIST STARTED IN ROCESTER! THIS IS NOT THE DOWN RENT DUSTRICT OF NYS!!
@@InterviewInterrogationsmoved to Atlanta and deal with traffic, bad food, unpleasant people and low paying jobs,etc....then you will love home.. Rochester😊.I'm paying 1800 for rent
Inconsistent weather, murders and rich white families swimming at the lake while the haters and remote foodies are having a good time. Is there a healing and hope scene? More unity and love could make Rochester better for humans who want to live there and enjoy gorgeous Fall days and bright Seasons. ☮️ Is there skiing near by?
Lol I think your version is incorrect. "Rich white people swimming at the lake while everyone else gets murdered" is what you basically just said. Do you live here?
George Eastman was gay! He awoke to the sound of organ music every morning! His man played the organ! He committed suicide, he said what more is left for him to do in life!! That was the part they dont tell u about!!
😂😂 all your comments basically shitting on the city and surrounding suburbs are full of hate! Why still live here? Wait - I'm going to take a wild guess here. You live in the town of Greece? 🤔🫣
It’s great if you are a criminal, love crappy weather and just want to hang out inside. Crime is through the roof and yes you can get a house cheap but you will spend a fortune fortifying it to protect your stuff. Weather is weather, some bad some good.
Ok so Rochester is definitely dangerous in areas but it definitely Is NOT 2nd worst in the country murder rate wise. Top 20 yea. Look at Baltimore and cities like that 2nd to Chicago
I appreciate your comment! Yeah I agree with you - For a long time Rochester was comparable to Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, St louis and LA on a per capita basis. The past year or so that hasnt been the case, however, recently things have been popping off full swing.
In 2022 Rochester had the highest murder rate in the country for cities under 250,000 people. In 2023 it was 6th in the nation for homicide per capita. It’s slowly getting better as it used to be worse than Chicago
@brandenpalarz905 It was never worse than cities like Baton rouge Louisiana or Baltimore/Camden NJ Etc etc. I know it saw 82 homicides in 2022. But not on the same level as those cities man.. Also Newburgh ny per capita is the worst in NY with only about 27 thousand ppl
I’m from irondequoit, idk man, it was nicer growing up but now all I hear from my grandparents that still live there is it’s a shit hole and the crime is getting worse. Rochester is the type of place people are born and die in. Nobody moves to Rochester, unless they’re just clueless.
I wanna be fair, I’m talking specifically about the part I’m from. There are areas that are beautiful, I should mention that. Outside of irondequoit and the city.
