I did my first marathon last Sunday and it was luckily successful. I wanted to do a sub 4h and finished at 3:49 at the Münster Marathon. I wanted to thank you for this podcast because I always heard 4 episodes on the long runs! It was the best entertainment for these runs

I quite enjoyed this week's pod cast, Rose was such a good guest 😁😁👍👍 you're smashing it! Now I want to mention that Marathon seems the holy grail on this channel, but it doesn't have to be. I have ran a marathon and I will continue to run more, but it only makes a small fraction of my running. I love running fast as well, I mean sub 20 minutes 5 km, fast and flowy trail courses, running in the track... The world of running is huge and I encourage viewers to not be frustrated if you can't run a marathon or ultra or simply don't want to, not all running revolves around the Marathon 😀 .

My mantra on my first marathon last year in October age 60 (61 in December) was run at this pace to finish the race which worked for me, I will be using it again for my second in October this year and hoping to be a bit quicker 🤞🏻

I started at 51 and hope I'm still fit enough in my 60's. What has been a weakness that has been exposed as you aged and ran and how did you compensate for it?

Nice backdrop with the PUMA run club. I just recently bought my first pair of PUMA trainers. Never thought PUMA had advanced so much in the last years. I have always rated Asics as my go to brand but PUMA seems to have found the right sweet spot for runners. Keep it up PUMA. I am watching closely now that my interest has been triggered.

Marathons are overrated. Shorter distances are so much more fun. Half marathons are simply the perfect race distance. Not too long, easier to train for and they don't exhaust you as much.
@dri1811ya
@dri1811ya Год назад
It probably depends on how fast. For me, I finish HMs in 2:15-2:30, and it's the longest distance I can actually "race". For marathons, I find that beyond 5 hours most people walk the last 7-8 miles or so, so yeah not as much fun I guess
@runningchannel
@runningchannel Год назад
Interesting! Have you ever run a marathon?
@Midlifesports
@Midlifesports Год назад
Not sure they’re overrated, just very tough and hard to do. There is a reason why the masses haven’t run a marathon. It’s a true test! Just my thoughts…

Doesn't it make sense to run 1/2 in one direction and 1/2 in the other direction to balance the load as you corner? Maybe it 25 years of playing hockey, but that seems like the best way.

Ran my first marathon yesterday at Richmond: 30 degree heat, a dodgy knee and the aid stations ran out of water halfway around, so quite the baptism of fire! But I made it round - the next one can be the fast one!

Congrats for powering through^^ Did a HM at saturday at "only" 26-28°C and the heart rate after ~1h went up for 10+ beats compared to normally at the same pace. Probably would have been 10+ mins faster at 20°C or below, can´t even imagine doing a marathon in this heat.

Getting ready for my first, one last long run then a taper... I feel like by the time the race comes I will be just itching for a long run. Anticipating it will be challenging to keep my pace reasonably low in the first half. Tips?

Just finished a 5k, and the seed of running a marathon has been taking root in my mind. When I finished the 5k, I wanted to be smiling when I got the finish line photo. It worked! I ran faster (and hit a new max HR).

Step #1 - Watch and practice The Running Channel's "Want Perfect Running Form? Do These Simple Things!" I started recording myself and trying to copy their form and I honestly made improvements. When I ran last night, I could feel when I my technique was on form and could return to form when I started to drag my feet.

Great episode and enjoyed listening while out on my run yesterday. The 10k event you mentioned coming up later in the year, any chance it'll be in December? I live in NZ so don't get home to the UK very often. Heading back for the month of December this year, it would be lovely if I could sneak this in and a new shiny 10k PB too. Would love to get closer to 40 minutes. Thank you, Mark
