Spirea was my favorite shrub in my Illinois garden! I had 6 varieties and over 18 plants! Now that I live in north Texas, I have planted double play doozie (last fall) and so far it looks fabulous! I can’t wait to see how it’s blooms compare to my IL garden and how it stands up to TX heat this summer!

I just planted a Double Play Doozie spirea, and it seems it doesn't like being transplanted from the pot. The blooms are turning brown and it's late spring. I dead headed them and I really hope the blooms come back and the plant doesn't fade out.
@pwcolorchoice

Double Play Doozie is a reblooming spirea so as it gets established more in its new home, you should see some of those later blooms! How does the foliage on the plant look?

Very informative video! Bridal wreath spirea, what does "give it a good prune after it flowers" mean? Shear it back?
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Год назад
So glad you enjoyed the video! Bridal Wreath spirea will benefit from a rejuvenation prune when it's getting a bit leggy, so you can cut it almost to the ground to help encourage more healthy new growth 🙂

I planted a PW Double Play Artisan Spirea. How do I avoid getting Powdery mildew on the new leaves or best natural approach of treatment?
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 6 месяцев назад
Powdery mildew is more likely to occur in humid areas that don't have good air circulation, avoid planting plants too closely to one another, overhead watering can also increase the risk of powdery mildew. Because it is a fungus, removing infected leaves and cleaning up the fallen ones around the plant can help to minimize it.

🐝Double play doozy doesn’t set seeds!? What about the pollen? With the concerns about bees health pollen count has become critical. The more hybridized plants are becoming the less pollen they have. What does it do then relating to pollen when they’re not setting seeds? No pollen is my guess. Please consider pollen when selecting your spirea and other lovelies. 🐝🐝 I live my spirea and am selecting more. Thanks for the well done vid!
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Год назад
So glad you enjoyed the video! ☺ Whether or not a plant sets seed, and if that seed is viable if it does set - is a function of the female portions of a plant's reproductive system. Since pollen is the male gametophyte of a plant, its presence has no bearing on a plant's sterility. So pollen and nectar can both be abundant in a flower but it would be considered sterile because no seed develops from pollination.

Hello. I ordered 2 Candy Corn Spirea plants and they were left outside in 6B zone in lots of rain recently The leaves are drying. My property is kind-of rocky. Can I plant in a Grow Bag and should I cover for Winter? Hope I get an answer. I also purchased a Lorapedulim to accompany
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 10 месяцев назад
Most likely, the plant is simply going dormant due to the time of year, and that's completely normal. If you'd like to reach out to us here with some photos, that would help us give you the very best advice. If you are in USDA zone 6b, the loropetalum will probably not survive winter outdoors, so I would suggest trying to overwinter that in a cool, bright spot indoors with good air circulation. It still may not survive, as this will be a stressful situation for it, but it will have a better chance than being outdoors. You can send your message and add photos from this link, www.provenwinners.com/feedback

Does anyone know if this plant will come back as (excessive) multiple individual shoots if its cut completely to the ground?
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 5 месяцев назад
It will come back as multiple shoots - I don't think they're likely to be excessive, but it would depend on the age of the plant, as well as how much water and nutrients it receives.

I had to pull mine out. Every year they would just get smothered with aphids. Any suggestions?
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Год назад
That can be very annoying! The best method for helping with this is to use gardening gloves and your hose to wash off the aphids, using your hands to rub the little buggers off the foliage.
