Obviously kidding here, but what's with this Hamilton hatred when Verstappen has been playing with the limits of all drivers for all his career, with much more hazardous dives. Verstappen didn't close the door as he thought Hamilton wasn't going to dive in at that point, got surprised and didn't want to concede to force Hamilton to let go but didn't have the room to try that one. They're significantly more accurate and robust than the regular Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes methods that I'm fairly sure are mostly used by the teams (they don't have the CPU hours or the time to run a lot of LES). Sure, the exact downforce loss figures in the video are a rough baseline since it obviously changes when cars corner or bounce over kerbs and stuff, and teams add their own touches to the designs, but the amount of downforce gained compared to current generation cars is very impressive. And they also have wind tunnel data for it, it can't just be a faulty CFD.

If Haas suddenly make a propa quick thing and are beating everyone by 30 seconds then all this will seem to be for nothing . Whenever they change the rules it always takes a couple years for all the teams to get on top of their designs anyway. Now, Ross Brawn has overseen the team who put these rules together - so i'm sure it will be better than the last big change Bernie came up with - but i wouldnt put all my hopes into thinking that next year we will have 25 lead changes every single race, etc.

Ethanol has lower energy density than petrol, so the new cars will be weaker. F1 is going in the opposite direction of what the audience wants. Put nitromethane in the fuel, not ethanol. Break the dominance of teams if they are dominant longer than 2-3 years in a row. Make the engines produce thrilling sound. Return grid girls to F1. That's what the audience and drivers wanted. But F1 management did exactly the opposite.

The track is the face of the automotive industry. It is the testing ground where every technology that hits the road is first established. So F1 pushing for more efficiency and sustainability is definitely a step in the right direction as far as being the environment is concerned.

With the amount of testing (and regulation changes) that have been done I doubt any team is going to find a major loophole they can take advantage of. The days of one team coming up with some ground breaking design are long gone.

@@stephenwilliams7200 I have yet to hear if the FIA will allow teams to customize the front/rear wings - or other areas on the chassis - for each track, as they currently do. If not, then what you have in effect is very much the same as an IndyCar in it's road/street wing set-up.

From memory they were banned because they created too much downforce and tyres maybe couldn't handle it. But now flat floors and bargeboards are at that level anyway, AND they cause an inability to drive close behind. So best move is to just go back to diffusers.

@@adamsimpson2041 No they weren't banned because they made too much downforce, ground effect back in the days were created using those really low sideskirts. When you have damage on them the car loses so much downforce they can go out of control, which is why FIA banned them.
